There is some sewage work happening right opposite Deccan Park, TCS office, Hitec city. They have closed almost the entire road. Only one lane is functional. I was there around 11:30, and didn't notice a bottle neck. But tomorrow is going to be a nightmare.

There's a cut across the road between Thomson Reuters and VIT Park, close to Auriga building. Earlier that was the only stretch where i could red line my car, but alas, its gone!

That spot had a 3-car pileup a few minutes back. A Corolla braked hard to avoid crossing that bump, causing an Indigo to rear end him. The indigo was rear-ended by another hatch!

Hi folks, need a quick info.
While coming from Tolichowki towards Mehendipatnam if we take right at Retibowli Circle, how far do we have to go to hop onto PVNR expressway?

Just a km or so. The up ramp is just after the 1st and only signal after you have turned right and are travelling below the PVNRE.

Re: Hyderabad: Updates on traffic - diversions, road expansions, alternate routes, etc.

So the Army is going to permanently close the stretch of road from Officer's mess to Friends' Corner next to AOC & the Shenoy nursing home route as well. I heard this will come into effect come December 1st.

I cannot imagine the strain this would place on the Trimulgherry junction. Is there anyway to escape this? I even considered ECIL, Moula Lai, Tarnaka , old Sangeet theatre junction and what not but that route has it's own challenges. Doesnt seem to be an escape route really. Bad times !

Re: Hyderabad: Updates on traffic - diversions, road expansions, alternate routes, etc.

For people staying in and around Trimulgherry,AS Rao Nagar,Sainikpuri,ECIL,Bolarum etc,the below route would be the fastest route to Hyderabad airport.Ofcourse it isnt reccomended if you are hiring a meru, because the distance is almost 20kms longer than the conventional route. But if its your own car that you are travelling by then its a breeze.I reach the airport from Sainikpuri in exactly 75mins of drive time door to door at any time of the day,(also keeping well below the design speed of 120kph on the ORR).Of course there is a 40rs toll one way on the ORR.

This might be too late, but the first entry ramp is at pillar # 75. The pillars near Retibowli Circle are numbered 42 and above. So the ramp is only after 30 pillars approximately.

The only other entry ramp is at pillar # 200. Perhaps there is one near Aramgarh also. I've only seen the exit ramp there, but guess there is an entry ramp too in the direction of the airport.

Re: Hyderabad: Updates on traffic - diversions, road expansions, alternate routes, etc.

I will be riding Pune-Hyderabad-Vijaywada-Bhubaneshwar-Calcutta in a couple of days with my friends. As two wheelers are not allowed on the ORR, need a route to bypass Hyderabad city traffic. Any and all help is appreciated!

If you have no reason to touch Hyderabad, then you can take the Solapur-Shadnagar route. Reach Pedda-Golconda that connects on the Hyderabad ORR.
You can take the service road to NH 9.

I have not taken the service road but remember seeing it all the way when driving on the ORR.
Others may kindly confirm the same.

We did part of that route last year and found it to be longer. Is there any other route closer to Hyderabad that bypasses ORR and Hyderabad city traffic?

Odd-Even rule in Hyderabad

Looks like Hyderabad will be experimenting with the Delhi Odd-Even rule, but thankfully in a scaled down mode. It would be limited to the Hi-Tech area on Thursdays as a replacement for Car-free Thursdays
(article in today's Deccan Chronicle)

After Delhi, Hyderabad likely to test odd-even vehicle formula

With Delhi implementing the “odd and even” car rule to curb congestion on roads and pollution, Hyderabad might be next in line. The planners of the Car-Free Thursday Initiative say that they had the plan in place in late September. And the document Car Free Thursday Vision which has been sent out to all companies that come under HYSEA, the IT department, TSIIC (Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation), RTC, the traffic police, etc.

The document claims that having odd and even numbered cars plying on the road in the Hitec City area for a start could reduce the number of vehicles on each Thursday by 50,000. And it will be only two days in a month that you will be ditching your car. Vishala Reddy, spearheading the Car-Free Thursday drive, says, “Hyderabad started car free days. Even when Delhi or Gurgaon implemented car free days they had reached out to us.”

Prashanth Bachu, urban transport specialist with World Resources Institute, India, who prepared the document, explains how the implementation of the odd and even number plate rule could help. He says, “It’s already a standard practice in many cities across the world. It’s a great measure to reduce the number of cars on the road.”

They have noted two probabilities or suggestions — one with a parking restriction which basically means to alternatively allow cars with odd or even number plates inside office campuses or charge for parking. But instead of making it a rule and forcing all to follow it, they are asking IT companies to make it a rule. “It’s 100 times more efficient. Voluntary groups inside a lot of companies already campaign every Wednesday to create awareness about Car Free Thursday. Already, companies like iLabs and Polaris have built bicycle parking stations inside their campuses. So, the companies are definitely interested. They haven’t implemented it as employees might retaliate but we are trying to build an understanding here,” he says.

To make it appealing for companies, they have looked at more angles. “Many companies pay for parking space to the developers and they give away this space to the employees for free. If they start charging the employees and at the same time, discount the bus fares for others or give an incentive for those who come on a bicycle, it will be great,” says Prashanth.

But that’s not the only solution. “More public transport needs to be put in place,” says Vishala, while Prashanth adds, “We have to give priority to buses. As far as the odd and even numbered cars rule is concerned, it’s a short term measure. Research shows that many people in the country already have a second car or within a year, they can buy another one. But it’s a good strategy to start a discussion on vehicular traffic congestion and its problems.”
