Better to declare a lockdown in city instead of doing this!

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

I'm confused why Bellary Road is being shut down tomorrow morning. As per my information, PM will board a helicopter at the AFTC at Mekhri Circle and fly straight to KIAL T2.

Then why shut down Bellary Road?

I guess Bellary road will be part of backup plan in case if the helicopter malfunctions or if there is any security threat to the original plan.

Because the other dignitaries and hero's will go by road.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Makes sense now I guess. I am hoping they have fixed those awful expansion joints on the Hebbal flyover!

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Has anyone noticed the over speeding trap laid by the BTP on the E-City expressway?
100mts before the first lay bye (going towards E-City), there is a speed limit sign 60 and ~50mts further, there is another speed limit of 30KMPH !

Not sure if this is a devious mind at work or general incompetence.

You mean... just before a point where one can reasonably expect vehicles to merge with one's carriageway which is on an otherwise uninterrupted, elevated, controlled road (so taking some drivers at least by surprise) - they have put up speed restrictions so that one can come down to a manageable speed in a phased manner? Devious indeed!

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

I went for a morning drive today at 7am to Shoolagiri and back just to give my Cooper a run after changing its rear brake pads yesterday.

All well. Nice road. Well behaved traffic. (Mostly). Except for the usual indisciplined lorries and small trucks who love going at 3km per annum in the fast lane.

On the way back while going up the E City Flyover ramp there was a big tail back of traffic. This was 9 am today. My heart sank because I was sure something sad had happened.

And sure enough just at the point where the ramp joins the flyover there was a fallen motorcyclist. I think he was no more.

Very sad thing to see in the morning. The E City flyover ought to be out of bounds for bikes and such.

The issue is more that the speed limit drops by 30KMPH in a span of 20-30 mts ! Shouldn't there be a reasonable span between speed zones?

Another issue is the topic you highlighted on safe exit from the emergency laybye - The width of the carriageway is far too narrow for the traffic that plies on it. And setting a speed limit perhaps makes it safer.

BTW There are a couple of road hump markers as well on that road although I didn't encounter any. Perhaps these phantom road humps act as speed limiters to green horns on this road.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Noticed a different type of setup today in Banashankari.

A camera on a tripod, near a tree. This is placed such that a driver wont see it, unless he turns as soon as he reaches the tree & looks towards the camera. One copy is manning this. Three more about 100m down the road where the errant or targeted cars are flagged down.

What is exactly being caught here? Speeding offences or something else?

It should most likely be ANPR cameras? I remember this made it to the news few months back near High Grounds.

Bangalore Traffic Police deploys ANPR cameras to auto-detect offenders

Amazing tactic. At least glad it will only flag down vehicles with pending offences. I'm sure the habitual offenders will have a tough time now

Thanks, Parag. The camera looked like that. I was in an auto and hence noticed the camera.

@Audioholic, this was on a road you would be familiar with - the main road that runs east-west, and just south of BSK police-station. Close to & Opp of Kidz Adda. Check it out.

Got it, usually from the last few days there would be lot of cops at the police station end of the road and they would flag random cars and bikes. Will speak to them soon and understand what's this new system capable of
