If it is discolored plastic I don't think much can be done. Have you tried cleaning with an all purpose cleaner or does and wipe cleaner.
A rusted metal plate is difficult to get clean.

Its a metal plate. I tried cleaning the plates with soap water.

Should I apply foam for sometime and then get a high pressure wash done?

From the pictures it's difficult to see. Are these stains or dust that is stuck on. Scrub a tiny area with a spray on cleaner and toothbrush and see if it gets dislodged or cleaned

Even I have the same plates on all vehicles. Due to the embossing, dirt gets lodged easily along the letters and even the white background dulls. I use some APC or cleaning foam to get back the whiteness. Soap water doesnt work and even if it should, it needs some good scrubbing with a mitt or a soft brush.

Re: A superb Car cleaning, polishing & detailing guide

Last week, I had given my Ritz ZDi at a car wash station and the cleaner washed my engine bay with high pressure washer without covering an electricals.

When I enquired, whether it was right, the manager told me that they are doing it for ages and there is nothing to worry about in modern engines!

In this guide they had covered the electricals before cleaning: http://thegarage.jalopnik.com/heres-...-sc-1730839997

Was that the right way to clean the engine bay?

Thats the way my XUV is washed, not just at the local wash centers but even at MASS. I once challenged the washing incharge at MASS, and he was like, "sir when we use the high power jets nothing happens as we know where to point, but don't take chances with these local centers". The chaps who were doing the actual washing did not look like they cared where they were pointing the water hose.

Shouldn't be a problem if they had blow dried the engine bay after washing. Did they do it? Too much water pressure can cause problems, a well established place will be wary of such issues while washing.

Oops...I didn't see whether they had dried it using a blower. They didn't cover the electricals though!

Actually they blow compressed air after washing with water.

Re: A superb Car cleaning, polishing & detailing guide

They should cover it and you should stress on it, otherwise somebody will learn it the hard way .

One of my relative's car ecu got fried because of this. Actually the moisture build up inside the ecu can cause corrosion/ short circuit which will show up over time.

Re: A superb Car cleaning, polishing & detailing guide

What is the difference between 3M's Finesse it and 3M perfect it one step compound?

I need something to take care of light scratches (caused by cats and other animals) and water marks/spots primarily.

I had used the perfect it compound by hand previously and found it to be quite good.

Which one would be more appropriate for such work by hand? And least abrasive.

Re: A superb Car cleaning, polishing & detailing guide

Hi Guys,

What feedback you have for Pro clear windshield additive. Also any polish which you can suggest for windshield. My windshield has lot of scratches because of dogs of the society. I enquired from Windshield Experts if they can fix but they said that they can break the glass and replace it under insurance and I don’t want to go that route. Also I am looking for a good paint sealant. I want to buy Klasse but it’s out of stock on greenz. Any idea where I can get it from or what are the alternatives.

Unless they hold the nozzle close to any part, wires, the spray as such will not cause any issue. Make sure they dont spray into the air intake pipe. Even if they do. Do not crank the car. Use the high pressure air pipe they use for blow drying and force dry air into it.

The issue is not with water touching the electricals, its the force of water. If we need to cover electricals in engine bay for every wash, then we should do same while we drive in rain on highways too right ?

Nothing to worry. Just be cautious with the intake. In Maruti, there is a rubber elbow at the mouth of intake, that I turn towards cabin while pressure washing. And ask the folks to keep the nozzle far away when they clean the A/C and Radiator grills.

I have some sticker marks still left on the number plate, and unfortunately its a High Secrurity Registration Plate and worried if alcohol or any of the gum and tar removers will damage the plates.

What did you use to clean your plates ?
