Sad thing we never get the car guide/manual when you buy a used car
Mine is a normal 15" Steel Wheel.

I have got 2 service books and 1 owner's manual neatly slotted into a small file along with all the previous insurances and few old service bills.

Even the owner's manual doesn't talk about the quantity of oil. Pardon my ignorance if it is otherwise as I am terrible with manual search on a 500 page book.

re: Honda Civic : Maintenance, Service Costs and Must dos

This morning when I started my 06 Civic, the engine fired for 2-3 seconds (a max of 2500 rpm) and then it stalled completely. The next two times I cranked and started revving it so that it doesn't die again, but even then the engine stalled in 2-3 seconds.

Fourth time the engine fired, hit a max of 2500rpm and then settled down to the 800 rpm when its in Neutral gear (P on my AT) within 3 seconds. I then drove it for around 20 KMs to my office and there were no signs of any problem during this drive.

What could be the issue? Am I looking at some damages/repairs?

I would like to add that I completed a 500 KM trip yesterday night through some bad roads, a petrol fuel up at a HP pump in a village, and some spirited driving at night on the expressway.

Could anyone confirm?

This is how the car looks. Body line looks all good with no accident repairs, Insurance carried a 40% NCB which says no claims in the past.
Mine is a 2010 VMT and it had only 4 alloys with the spare wheel being a steel-rimmed one. I believe the pre-facelift versions of the Civic (prior to Sep 2009 IIRC) came with 5 alloys and the spare wheel was reduced to a steel rimmed one in the newer models. Honda's brilliant cost-cutting effort.

re: Honda Civic : Maintenance, Service Costs and Must dos

That's precisely what happened. My 2007 Civic came with 5 alloys, and later honda replaced the 5th alloy with a steel wheel as a cost cutting strategy, that after increasing the prices post facelift. That was the time when the Civic had a good demand and Honda was looking to milk it as much as possible.

Sorry for the delay in posting the pics. Not very high quality though. Just for reference, mount costed Rs 1900 and the OEM brake pads Rs 1100

Can you please help me understand?
A: Do you think this is a damage caused by HASS during the routine service?
B: What is the normal life of Auto Belt Tensioner? Does it require to be replaced within 4 years and the car is used very sparingly and has done only 16500 Kms.
C: My extended warranty expired on 1st Oct, can i get it replaced under Warranty?
The civic has a timing chain, not a timing belt. So that ought to be the timing chain auto tensioner. But I think the one that's going kaput in your car is the auto tensioner for the serpentine belt. It powers the alternator, AC and power steering.

A. Its highly unlikely that it can get damaged during routine service. The deterioration is a gradual process. Unless it was handed by totally incompetent people.

B. There is no such mandatory replacement every 4 years. Its been almost 8 years with my civic and close to 1,00,000 kms and i havn't had any issue in my car.

@All

I finally got the engine mount and rear pads replaced.. The civic is back to being a sweet ride.

In the first pic you can see that the engine mount had actually broken apart. Hence the major vibrations.

Now there's a good enough gap and the car is smooth as before.

Total labour for changing engine mount and rear brake pads : Rs 400.
My trusty mechanic at Alaknanda, South Delhi did a great job.

The pads look good. Can you share the contact number of the place where you bought it. Interested to get a pair of them.

My civics dash started to show the orange fuel injection sign & revvs started at 1500 and refused to come down.

Tried revving it but it won't go beyond 2000rpm.

Tried restarting and it went normal but with the same orange light glowing.

Took it to FNG, got scanner plugged in. It detected a fault with throttle position sensor relay.

Got relay changed just now and looks fine till now.

Paid rs 500 for scanning & 180 for the replacement relay.

Can any one help with the cost for changing all 4 shockers on the civic. My suspension has gone hard and i intend to change these before changing the tires.

My Neighborhood garage quoted 6600 each for front o.e. Shocker from Honda. Imported ones TRW (IIRC) were at 3300 each.

Any help would be very welcome.

Thanks

Rishi

What is the spark plug change interval for Civic? Is there any better after market spec which I can go for?

As per the manual, it is once every 100,000 kms.

They are iridium spark plugs. I'd say stick to OEM, it just costs 4k per 1,00,000 kms.

Great! Which means I don't have to bother for another 3 years at least. Thanks!

Buddy i think the best thing to do is to get the car checked out with a garage or at Hass.Get it scanned for error codes.

Is the check engine light coming on? Also what is the idle rpm at ?
