Does this engine in ertiga come with EGR? Every MASS shows a periodical service chart which states that EGR cleaning for diesel engines are included in the service costs for 30k ,60k and 90k periodical maintenance service . Yet they say EGR is to be dismantled and cleaned at around 1 lakh. I wonder how they clean the EGR of 1.3 ddis engines since it's situated behind the engine. Any idea as to ascertain whether they clean it as promised during the respective kilometer intervals of 30k 60k and 90k?

Regarding the EGR cleaning, could you please explain as to how the service center guys must be doing the EGR cleaning job? They are very reluctant to carry out that job under PMS charges and they say it takes time to access the EGR located behind the engine and it would be time consuming and that they don't actually remove and clean it, rather they just spray some solution into the EGR valve to remove the deposits. Could you please enlighten me on this as to what exactly they are required to do for EGR cleaning? Hello babukvishnu,

This is just my idea of cleaning an EGR. It should be ideally done every 50K Kms. As the car gets older you can even look at cleaning it every 40K Kms. This is how I do in my car. I get this removed and take it back to home soak it in diesel overnight then remove the deposits and take it back to the service centre. This is something I do without taking any chance. Well our car is almost 15 years old diesel so I just do this at a personal level.

Also I believe 1.3 ddis engine also comes with an intercooler to dissepate the heat. Again this is something I do with my 15 year old car. I soak this overnight in diesel and clean it the next day. Usually I clean this every 20K KMS which has been going well till date.

Update: Since the car was extremely dirty after the trip, got it cleaned inside out at a nearby center. Also, the underbody had acquired some chips, so took this opportunity to re-do the entire underbody including silencer. Opted for Liqui Moly Stone Guard which happens to be my old favorite. For silencer coating, went with Turtle Wax and was pleasantly surprised by the glossy finish it gave, far superior than any silencer coating I have used till date.

PN remains the same for one model range, irrespective of facelifts. Depends on your luck which edition comes upon ordering.

Fitment remains same but for my opinion on alignment with filter and drain holes, will need a pic of your underbody first.

Yes suspension of diesel Ertiga is different.

PMS 30 Done: Got the 30k service done, albeit at 31.5k km due to the Jaisalmer trip. Nothing special, just the usual stuff of Engine Oil change, Air and Cabin filters cleaning, brakes cleaning and wheel rotation. Excellent experience at M/s Hilltop Motors, specially due to SA Mr. Nazir.

Also since I had hit a pothole quite hard during the trip, and the steering was feeling a bit weird, got the alignment fixed at my preferred store and the LH side indeed had taken quite a hit.

Given a choice which car from the above would you prefer and why? (Yearly running of around 12,000 kms-70% highway-30% city usage)

Or do you suggest increasing budget and going for Prestige Plus Diesel model (~18L on road)??

A quick word on Ride quality: It has indeed degraded, I could feel a lot more surface undulations and the potholes feel sharper(somewhat like 2015 Balenos on 16 inch rims, before suspension recall). For a people mover, it's surely not desirable to switch to 16s and retain stock suspension.

Given your running will be mostly on the highways, and given how lackluster performance of new XL6 is on highway speeds, I'd recommend the Kia or stretching to Innova if possible. Cars aren't bought everyday and if possible, one should always opt for the best possible option. Also, XL6 has become too pricey IMHO, and when compared against the Kia, a lot of things don't come in XL6's favour like interior fit and finish, ride quality etc.

Still, don't go purely by my opinion, take a TD and you may end up liking the XL6.

Update: Installed Spoiler myself: Ever since the 2022 XL6 came out, the spoiler was growing on me. Being available from MGP also solved the child part issue, where some people lost their caps and it was not available separately.

The only issue now was that I was not happy with the way showroom guys were installing it. Given the huge number of cars they do, they don't follow SOP and merely hammer/screw in a screw into the thin sheet metal. An example of how spoiler is typically installed:

Decided to explore the possibility of DIY. After all the only thing risky was drilling holes post proper measurement. Visited nearby showroom and procured the instruction manual which comes with every spoiler, but no one reads it. Sharing the manual here:

The only changes from steps mentioned in manual were that the number of holes needed are two and not 7 as mentioned. Also I didn't rely solely on presented template. Took measurements by actually positioning the spoiler. Ordered the MGA spoiler pre-painted in Magma Grey from Boodmo during their free delivery sale. PN: 990J0M72R07-150

Steps:


1. Marked the hole positions. Made 11mm drill and installed jack nut provided in that hole. The hole was deburred and also painted to prevent any future rusting before installing the jack nut. The sheet metal here is deliberately made super thin to facilitate easy spoiler installation. In one of the pics, you can spot the area of hole got a small dent, it's actually desirable since the jacknut then sits absolutely flush.

2. Clean the remaining area, and apply 3M's adhesion promoter along areas which will mate with double sided tapes provided on spoiler. PN: 990J0M999H7-010

3. After this, careful placement is needed and you are done.

4. I also applied molten plastic from Stanley glue gun over and around the bolts, so that there is no chance of water seeping inside.

K15B, those alloys and this rear which is better than the clear/smoked looking rear of the latest gen which, to me, looks a bit aftermarket.
In my books, this makes the XL the best XL6 package in the country.

DIY Upgrade- Adding Variable Speed Intermittent Wiper function on my XL6: Ever since the Grand Vitara/2022 Brezza came out, I noticed the stalk which matched the shape/profile of the stalks I have on my XL6. Curiously, checked their PIN diagrams and it was identical. Placed an order with MASS locally around July but the part hasn't arrived till now. Thankfully, the stalk came in stock on Boodmo and I ordered it immediately.

Installation was a simple affair.

1. Remove one screw and pull the lower part of dashboard trim, comes out cleanly.

2. There will be one screw holding the lower part of steering column cover, unscrew it and remove the lower part.

3. Turn the steering wheel to left and right and unscrew the two screws visible and remove the top part of the column cover.

4. Undo the tab to release the stalk and also the coupler.

5. Installation is simply a reverse process and you are done.

Cons: The only single demerit is that the new stalk has REAR INT function, but the wiring of XL6 or other models on Heartect doesn't support it. Anyways we didn't have this function earlier, so no harm done.
