WOW.That's great. Now hopping they prize this thing sanely.

That dual tone interiors and seats look pretty good. Somehow was never attracted by all the beige.

Was hopping might get that sporty flat bottomed steering from the international TSI's.

Thanks for the pics. Happy to see the black/grey dualtone seats (and not the usual beige).

Yes, looks like the ESP/Traction Off button. That said, VW is known for keeping button layout as standard, and some of those maybe dummy buttons in some markets.

On a related note, a short video of Polo's behaviour with/without ESP.

As far as I know, the flat bottomed steering wheel comes as standard only on the GTI, RLine and the latest WRC Street.

In my experience, black flooring tends to show up the dirt more than beige. Also if it's a bother, the beige flooring can be dyed to black in as less as 5k.

Nice. I had sent multiple mails asking for a polo 1.6 auto before. I knew it was never going to be replied. But then, you never know. Pricing is the key. Time to sell my i10 then .

Scorcher!! Just hope the gearbox holds up properly and they price it rationally. Though in today's diesel stunted market this product will mostly be relegated to die-hard petrol-heads and performance freaks. I don't foresee very huge numbers for this product.

Nice pics. Two immediate concerns looking at the engine bay.
1. SOHC??? 1.2 Turbo would be more flexible in atleast DOHC or vvt. Also this should limit the tuning potential to a great extent.
2. Non Intercooled?? Turbo motor in a tropical country with 90% bumper to bumper traffic isnt the best place to have a non intercooled turbo car.

Will have to see how this car performs in the long term tests for a bit before puttin down the moolah for it. 7DSG is an awesome addition.

Do you know a fact, Polo is one of those rarest cars where petrol versions are doing very well. Current petrol Polo is managing to sell in more than 30% of total Polo sales. Please check the official car sales threads of past few months and analysis petrol Polo sales vis a vis petrol versions of other cars.

Edit:
Here are sales figures of last 3 months:

Month...........Petrol :: Diesel
March 2013.....1284 :: 1717
Feb 2013........ 1657 :: 1970
Jan 2013.........1076 :: 3503

But "numbers" my dear friend, where are the numbers?? Do you think a car that is selling a thousand or so of its petrol variant will get huge numbers for a DSG sub-variant? We are talking sales figures in hundreds at the most whereas companies like Honda are releasing products that will sell tens of thousands shortly.

In no way am I presuming a lack of quality but the fact is that this will remain a niche product in our stunted market.

I think with this TSI - DSG variant, VW is trying to target the growing small hatch AT segment. I feel this is one segment that is growing exponentially. In many cities the traffic is so slow that an AT car makes a lot of sense. In the hatch segment the AT choice is very limited. The 1.2 TSI mated to a 7 DSG has the potential to deliver very good FE compared to the torque converter ATs that the competition is presently offering. Once the market realises that it can get the comfort of an AT car without sacrificing mileage, who knows, this may just start a new trend.

More and more people I know are now taking a liking to AT cars. Women just love it . Once people get used to the comfort of an AT box its hard for them to go back to MT cars.

No doubt but the fact remains that this gearbox (DQ 200) has failed in it's previous iteration here in India. I would advise people to wait and watch whether this version will be able to cope with Indian conditions. Also this won't come cheap so my wariness of it being a niche product remains.

A feature rich hatch like the Polo which enjoys a "prestige" & "quality" image with a powerful petrol engine- auto tranny combination is sure to get many many customers, especially from the fairer sex. People who buy the likes of CRVs, Accords or petrol 3 series certainly shall like the car. Now, if VW could provide powerfolding mirrors too to the recipe, I wish.

Agree with you that it will be a niche product as I doubt if they'll able to price it below 8 ~ 8.5 lakhs. The i20 AT if am right, costs about 10 L on road in Bangalore and I hardly see an i20 with the Auto badge on the roads. Whereas the i10 AT is a common sight on the road these days.

THe DQ 200 is designed for engines with max torque of 250nm and lower. On the 1.2 TSI with lower torque, it may just prove to be reliable. Of course, that remains to be seen . Failure rates have come down since 2012 on the Superbs too.
