There is an Auction Coming up on 20th at Chennai. There are about 7 lots of 550's. I will have to Inspect these vehicles before we think of pooling in.Will keep you posted about this Auction.

I went with some colleagues out to Pathankot sometime in 2010, I guess, to look for Jeeps, and there were several scrap dealers in the area who had individual vehicles available. None of them struck me as being extremely "on the level" - real wheelers and dealers, which I guess is what you'd expect. They were asking 1.5 lakhs, which seemed high for what was on offer. All the Jeeps we looked at were reasonably well battered and in need of complete restorations. None had the front driveshafts in place, oddly enough. Two we were able to actually hear run - one had a loud knocking noise in the engine, the other ran better (took forever to start, though) and I was able to drive it, but the gearbox jammed up while I was out on the road, and I had to park it. Not sure how the dealer managed to get it back to his place. Another we saw looked pretty good body-wise, but had what seemed to be a pretty badly bent front axle housing or something... not sure but something was far from straight up there. All the dealers tell you, "No Problem" - about mechanical woes, paperwork, whatever. Anyway, if you're looking for a project, fine. The Jeeps are there. But it's probably going to involve a lot of headaches, and I think a soul could do a lot better to find a nicely maintained civilian version for around the same price.

depends on how many ppl are bidding. my conservative estimate is that we should get one 410 for roughly 1.10 lakh which will include registration costs too. if we're lucky of course we could get it for much less!

It would take a minimum of 3 lacs (turn-key project) and a maximum of 5 lacs with full upgrades like BFGs, electric wrence Snorkel et all for making the auction vehicle road-worthy.
