Allwinner V3 does not support 4K, it's fake (interpolated) 4k.

Viofo A119s Vs A119 V2

Hi,

I bought A119 S and A119 V2. I have already installed A119S on the front windshield, will install A119 V2 in the rear.

I used both the camera on the front windshield to see the difference, its easy to interchange since mount is same for both.

Here is a comparison video A119S vs A119 V2

Regards.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

IMX291 is a better performer for low-light. Been using the A119S as a rear camera for around 6 months now, don't think as of now there's anything that beats it.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

I got this from Ali Express, do the specs look decent? I love the picture quality during daytime but haven’t tested it on a night drive yet.

https://www.aliexpress.com/store/pro...403d47089kCeWx

300 megapixels 1920x1080 video at 300 fps

Sample video here

The black thing in the left corner is a light / rain sensor behind my orvm, unfortunately I installed it a little too close to it :(

Came with a windshield / dashboard mount that used what looks like genuine 3M tape.

So far it looks very decent.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

People need help with choosing and installing a dash cam for my I20 Active, the increasing number of accident due to others fault have made me think of getting a Dash cam installed, I am looking something functional at a lower price point (the cheaper the better), Please suggest a shop in Bangalore, preferably north Bangalore where I can buy and get the Dash cam installed.

Thanks in Advance

Your best bet is to buy it off aliexpress. It will take a month to deliver though. I have this one

Cheap dashcams don't have the wider FoV, clear picture (for checking license plate numbers), and are battery operated.
I had one, and it conked off after an year - plus the battery was swollen.

Suggest you to get something that has wider FoV, atleast 1080p 30fps recording capacity & is capacitor driven.

I am using this from amazon for the last 2.5 years and never had a problem and has served its purpose. The night vision is a little iffy, but it does what it is supposed to do.
Haven't gotten the need to use any of the videos so far (luckily, touch wood) but let me know if you would like to see a sample.

An older but costlier version is also available here.

Feel free to PM for any additional questions if any.

Cost should not be a limit when you are selecting Dashcams. Don't get me wrong, but I will consider Dashcams in par with Airbags. They are a must.

If you are looking for options, consider these points before you narrow down.

1. Good build quality. Flimsy, small and substandard suction cups are asking for disaster. The reason why I am saying this is, most of time our cars have to endure the rigors of high temperature, vibrations. Both these factors will impact cheap build ones.

2. GPS enabled. Though this might be considered vanity, this will aid for you to see the locations and record the location in the event of any claims (god forsake). It also aids in knowing where you car had been incase someone else uses it.

3. Support for large storage capacity cards. The bigger the better.

4. Manufacturer support for product updates. Firmware updates help in getting a optimized product.

5. Always go for both front (in cabin) and rear (in cabin). You might be following all the road rules and drive safely, what about the intelligent being who is following you.

6. Support for longer duration turn off timer. Few manufacturer give an option to fix a time after ignition off for the cam to shutdown (Delayed Shutdown). This will aid in scenarios when after a crash and ignition is off, cam will still be recording for few more seconds.

7. Voice recording. Must.

8. G sensor and Automatic footage safe store. Depending on the G-Force sensitivity footage will be saved in a folder which will not be erased if you accidentally format the card on dashcam. Also it will aid in saving the last footage before and few seconds after a crash.

And in any scenario, after a crash check on yourself and others safety or hurt, immediately reach out for the cards and keep it safe inside the car or in person and dial ambulance or Police after that. Never handover the card to anyone. Not even to Police. It is your property and you have entire ownership of it. If your Phone supports External Card support, immediately attach the card and upload the entire footage to Cloud storage from your phone. You need not handover anything to anyone until your lawyer reaches you.

I agree with you its an absolute must , i strongly feel that this must be provided as an option from the company itself.

I am concerned of shoddy installation even if I get a good dashcam. Not have been able to find options in my budget, the options available online are quoting upwards of 25 K

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

I have a question for the folks using a dashcam on a high vehicle like an SUV. Do you find that reading the number plate of the car in the front at night becomes impossible? I have tried different settings on my Blaupunkt dashcam. However, due to the height of my car (and consequently the headlight) the low beam always falls on the white/silver number plate of the vehicle ahead and bounces back in all its brilliance thus washing out the plate completely in the video. At times when the car bounces either due to a pothole, road undulations or a speed breaker the headlight height focus shifts momentarily from the number plate of the car ahead and immediately the camera seems to capture the number plate.

Do you guys also face a similar problem? How do you solve it?

Though I am not an SUV owner, quick solution might be to check the resolution of recording and glass cleanliness.

I record at 420p for smaller file size. I can record number plates upto 5 mts from the car. At night time, yes I agree. The shine from number plates do hinder and I can capture it only when I am about 1-2 mts close.

Vibrations are a huge challenge. Depends on the location of suction cup and its dampening effect. The side screw types help in dampening.

Transcend (as mentioned by get2bid) is a good option. You can check Blaupunkt too. Big players (Garmin) are the best in overall features and confidence.

HP too had a range, but not sure if they are still supporting it.

I did installation myself. Only thing I needed were the multi socket 12 v extension. Cause I had to install for rear view too. I ran the wire below the carpets and through the side panels (plastic) with the help of just a thin screwdriver to open it. It should be easy to disassemble too cause when you give your car for service or something else you dont want people messing around with cam or wires.

Check this if you want to do professional type.

For me its a real challenge. The height from which the low beam falls it directly flashes on the plate. Its a blindingly whitewashed patch that gets captured. And from the distance where the beam falls below the plate the camera is too far in the dark to capture the plate. Its a catch 22.

I don't think vibration is too big a challenge and anyhow I have a side screw tightener on the dashcam mount. Moreover, I even tried with reducing EV to -3 which is the lowest supported. But then a washout is a washout and reducing the EV does not really help.

This might be little quirky, a colleague of mine used those yellow plastic cover that sweet boxes come wrapped in as lens cover, to avoid the shine from the bonnet during his daily highway drive.

Just a thought.
