That should be perfectly okay.

Well, I don’t have anything in B&W , but I have got this comfirmed from UAE & Indian official Apple stores & SC’s. Moreover, you can check on this forum; there are posts from a few BHPians who have claimed the warranty here in India for iPhones purchased from other countries.

You can check the Amozo cases on Amazon. They’re pretty cheap and can be replaced in a few months, if required.

This should give you the details - either sign-in with your Apple ID, or check with the device serial no.

1. Since there would be no warranty, will buying the apple care plan help?
2. Iphone pro max or Iphone 15 pro. I just need good battery and hence leaning towards to Max. Anybody who is using the max , is it going to be too difficult to do one hand operation and is it heavy?
3. Dos & Donts for customs at Mumbai.
1. Apple Warranty is world wide.

1. Apple Care Plan is a farce. I personally do not recommend buying it as I have never used the plan and it's good money down the drain. If you are the type of person who drops the phone or not careful in general then do get it.

2. If your budget permits, always get the "flagship" model which is the iPhone 15 Promax. It will be BEST in every possible aspect- Camera, Battery Life, Performance Speed, Premiumness etc. I don't care what people say or compare but, I always prefer to buy the top-of-the-shelf brand in iPhones. Apple does make sure their Promax is different from rest of their product lines.

3. Just 2-days ago, we carried 3 iPhones ( 2 No's of 15 Promax and 1 No. of 15 Pro along with an Apple AirPods Max) and we just walked out of the airport. Nobody asked, nobody stopped etc. Darn, I wish I brought along a few more iPhones.

Note: Along with 3 Brand New iPhones, we personally had 3 iPhones of our own which are fairly new ( Two iPhone 14 Promax, 1 iPhone 13 Promax)

Basically, we had on our person 6 iPhones and we just walked out with no questions asked.

Which airport was this? The customs experience varies largely from airport to airport.

Were the new phone sealed pack or you took them out and kept in pocket?

Luck was with you indeed

This was at Delhi airport.

I was in India in May 2023 and carried similar stuff (infact, lot more) and had landed in Hyderabad and walked through the green channel.

This time in Delhi, there was no channel (neither red or green) as the crowd was unprecedented. Everyone just walked out of the exit.

Haha! Yes, we were lucky for sure.

We carried 2 phones each with us in our shoulder/laptop handbag.

2 new phones were removed from the box and kept in cabin luggage (didn't want to take the risk of keeping it in check in luggage).

Boxes were kept in the check in luggage.

Basically, all phones were outside their cases.

This is possibly the BEST way to carry any new iPhone or any electronic items (if possible) through the airport. I'm not quite sure, but I think I had read it somewhere that the problem arises when you carry a 'sealed' box which ideally indicates that you're carrying it for a re-sale and not personal use.

My friend infact had gone extra mile and had even set-up the iPhone (randomly) before carrying it from UAE.

Re: The iPhone Thread

Have never faced a problem at Mumbai airport while carrying tech products from USA. When I came back to Mumbai from a visit to New York early this year, between my 2 cousins and myself, we carried 4 iPhones, 2 Airpods, 2 Apple Watches and some assorted goods. This was over and above our own existing phones. All of it was unboxed and carried either in our pockets, worn on the wrist and majorly carried only in cabin backpacks. Only the opened boxes were put into the check-in baggage.

Have never faced a hassle with Mumbai Customs in all these years. A source tells me that Customs is more interested in flights arriving from the Gulf and the drive against Drugs and Gold smuggling is more critical.

Using authentic popsockets has been a massive game changer for my one handed use of iPhone Pro Max. Originally, got popsockets as a corporate gift. Now everyone at home is addicted (to their respective) popsockets attachment. I used to buy on Amazon, but now only available at it's own eponymous online store. Tad expensive now. Use the original popsockets only, others don't have the awesome fit

Re: The iPhone Thread

Is it worth upgrading to an e-SIM ? I got a mail from Airtel urging upgrading to an e-SIM. My main worry is if the phone dies or is reset then it becomes a problem. Do banking apps and UPI work seamlessly on iphones with eSIMs?

I came across this news today. Can eSIMs prevent this type of fraud ? I use a plain SIM lock which provides some security in case the phone is stolen but I think eSIMs are more secure.

Using an e-SIM on the Airtel number on my iPhone, first on the 13 and now on the 15 Pro. It is seamless, no unnecessary hassles. All banking, UPI apps work flawlessly. Technically, unless you actually want to shift to an e-SIM (I won't call it an "upgrade"), there's no real need to shift if your existing SIM card is not giving any issues. In my case, I had to shift to e-SIM on my Airtel number, because I'm using another SIM on the phone (Vodafone), which is physical.

What I know is that iPhone gives an option to keep your eSIM profiles if you reset it. I had to reset my phone and installed fresh OS- the eSIM came back despite full change in iOS (rollback).

Also, I don't think that attacks like you mentioned can be stopped through eSIM. eSIM, like physical sim can be blocked by calling the service provider if your phone is lost. If you are worried that your physical sim can be put in another phone and OTPs can be accessed if you lose your phone, then using a SIM PIN is a better alternative. However, make sure that you remember it well. When using a SIM PIN, the sim will not connect to the cellular network unless the unlock code is punched whenever the phone in which it is put is turned on. So, even if the physical SIM is put in another set, it will ask for the SIM PIN to unlock. This way you can protect yourself to some extent. Punching SIM PIN everytime your phone restarts- that may be a little inconvenience.

Re: The iPhone Thread

I had travelled abroad for work last week. While transiting via Doha, Qatar, I looked at the iPhone 15 Pro Max at the Apple Shop around the A and B Concourse.

They had the 1TB version only and they did have the Natural Titanium colour and the Blue Titanium too, either of which colours I would have been happy with. It was priced at 6799 QAR - around ~ Rs 1.49 Lac. I gave it a pass because I believe that the 256 GB variant is the most relevant one, considering the fact that one always has access to significant cloud space by way of the iCloud Storage facility.

Then I travelled back on the same route this weekend and checked with them again about iPhone 15 Pro Max. This time they had the Titanium Blue in 256GB which is the variant I wanted. It was priced at 5099 QAR - around ~Rs 1.12 Lac. This price is the same across the GCC region (I have checked the equivalent in UAE and all.)

The saving is ~Rs 48000/- when considering the INR pricing in India and that is a lot of money indeed.

So I bought the phone and had the shop chap open and check it once in front of me. I then placed it in my small carry bag and came along through T2 in Bangalore yesterday with no problem at all.

I went to the phone service provider store and have re-converted my existing e SIM to a regular physical SIM. And now I have to migrate my existing iPhone 12 Pro Max to this new 15 Pro Max. And then re-convert the physical SIM once again to an e SIM so as re-do my Apple Watch Phone function connection and all.

My 3 year old iPhone 12 Pro Max will fetch around ~Rs 42000-44000 or so if I sell it. But I would prefer to give it to my Dad who also enjoys a good phone camera, so that he can benefit from it.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max is a serious Upgrade, a massively Incremental Step-Change from the iPhone 12 Pro Max, in all the aspects that I consider important, such as lightness, battery life, chassis strength and its camera is absolutely WOW! I believe that this upgrade is easily sufficient and will remain relevant for the next 3-4 years.

Congrats on the new Flagship!

Pardon my ignorance on the iCloud as I don't use it much. Even though the iCloud provide space of nearly 2TB and that one can push practically everything there (majorly pictures); wouldn't it be a little time consuming and data hungry to retrieve or view the pictures when one wishes to? I mean if the pictures are just stored in my iPhone's native gallery, I can just view them with a swipe without worrying about data consumption. Even worse in areas of poor network and I'm not even talking about Wi-Fi, the time required to simply view these pictures would be a lot cumbersome task.

My 12 Pro, 128 GB is running out of space, and I have to practically transfer the old pics to my MacBook (which I don't want to), as I like all the pictures on my iPhone. So, I wanted to check if getting the additional storage space on the cloud would be worth it!

Well, with my experience of using 2 iPhones, I think the camera capability is primarily restricted to the iOS the phone comes with. The moment you get one or worse case 2nd MAJOR iOS update, the camera quality for sure sees a decline.

I have experienced this with the IP 7 & 12 Pro. I feel my 12 Pro's pictures don't come out as they used to 3 years ago, when it was new. Th night mode has seen the most hit. I am not comparing these pics to newer flagships; I'm just comparing them to the pictures taken with the same phone when it was new.

For sure the claims of Apple dropping the overall quality (in terms of software / usability) of the older iPhones with release of every new flagship seems true; which rather compels one to get the latest one!

Thoughts?

I asked this from one of the staff members at Apple Store, BKC. She told me that warranty will be applicable everywhere. However, Apple care plan can only be purchased from the country where iPhone is purchased from as every country has different protections under care plan. IIRC, she told me that U.S. provides theft protection under care plan which is not there in India. So, Apple care plan will be limited as per the geographical location.
