re: The Mobile Phone Thread - Queries, decisions, discussions all here

Hi. I have a query about the BSNL Cellone network. I am able to divert calls to another mobile phone number but not to a land line. Would you know if this is a limitation of the phone or the BSNL network ?

Moto service centre at Mysore.
Its a new phone. The box contents were in sealed packs. Just the box itself and of course, bill or warranty, not available.

re: The Mobile Phone Thread - Queries, decisions, discussions all here

Please advise:

Want a new mobile to replace my Galaxy Y Duos, which has served me - umm ok. The pain point I have is that lately the buttons in the bottom, all 3 - left(back), right (options) and center (enter) are not functioning properly.

My priorities are in this order:

1. Dual active SIM @ less than 10K
2. Clear and loud voice quality
3. Touch screen to be glich free and super smooth
4. Wireless radio
5. Good battery
6. Display clarity in sunlight
7. Browsing speed will be a plus

Have shortlisted

Galaxy S Duos 2
Micromax Canvas 2.2 A114

Which is better of the two? Is there a better alternative.

The A114 scores over S Duos 2 in almost all aspects except that it is not dual sim active.

I recommend you the Canvas 2 Plus A110Q. Priced 1k lower than Canvas 2.2 and the only difference is the display and Android 4.2.1 vs 4.2.2 on the A114.

I am not 100% sure if Moto G, 8 GB version can meet the above requirements. If yes, you may consider that as well, though the budget needs to be stretched by around 1-2K.

@ramzsys: Is LCD cracked or is the glass cracked? Can you post some pictures?

^You looking only for Android? Else Windows could make better sense at that price range. S Duos was one of the worst phones I checked out. Don't know about s Duos 2, but in general I'd keep away from Samsung for this price range.

I heard the Blackberry Z10 is now available for Rs.17990. AFAIK, this was launched sometime in December at Rs.43500!!

Has anyone here experienced this phone?

My uncle has this phone. Have played with it. I am an Android user and I was not very happy. The gesture based UI was very irritating and sometimes confusing. It is not very fluid and consistent as Android. Interface cannot be customized endlessly to our choice or wish, like in Android. Of course, its a new UI and needs time to develop.

My uncle is facing problems with his Z10 - mainly lag and he says it not very user friendly as the iOS or Android.

Meanwhile, another friend recently bought the Z10 for 18k and is very happy with it!

If price is not a factor Galaxy Golden

How to make video calls with both Nexus 5 and Xperia Z? Both, network dependent and not by installing third party app.

Thanks

re: The Mobile Phone Thread - Queries, decisions, discussions all here

Got a bunch of OTA upgrades for my Lenovo P780 over the weekend. Moved from ROW version 110 to 123. Main benefit gained was freeing up of internal memory (which is just 1GB in total). Earlier, i was at 95% utilization & now after this upgrade it has come to 63% (with same apps like before - looks like some bloatware is taken out). Net effect = the phone feels snazzy and I am happy with the upgrade

The video calling feature has been removed by Google from Android OS version 4.0 and above. Why? no body uses video call option in the US, and prefer video call over internet, maybe, am not sure.
You still have it in Samsung devices because it has been added by Samsung, not because the stock Android OS (made by Google) would support it.
However you can use hangouts, Skype etc to make video calls over wifi or mobile internet data.
