Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Experts please help. My friend has a MacBook Air and needs to transfer files(pictures, music etc.) to his Note 4. He tried the Android File Transfer and it didn't work.

The Mac OS is OS X Yosemite. Please suggest any software or any workaround to transfer the files. Thanks.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Some of the phased out models such as Sony Experia Z ultra, Samsung galaxy grand II etc. are available at discounted prices online. will they be a good buy, or will we have issues shortly after buying?

Why did it not work? What is it saying? It works perfectly fine for me. I use Yosemite too and a Galaxy S3, which is less advanced than your friend's.

If he is connected to the same wifi network try AirDroid.

I am not aware of the message which it shows regarding why it didn't work. I wasn't around when he tried. But since you say, will check it now myself.

A friend bought the Z Ultra for that reason. Flagship specs for ~17k or so. S4 for 18k is good value IMHO.

As long as one would get warranty - does it matter? Its much better than buying a S3 Neo!

Often we tend to miss the most basic things. Ask him to make sure that he is following the steps.

1. Connect the phone with the computer using the USB cable.
2. Double click the Android icon in the computer. A window opens which is basically a list of all the folders in the mobile.
3. Just drag and drop the files in the folder of your choice. I usually create a new folder and dump it there.
4. Disconnect the phone from the USB cable. Check if the file is inside the phone.

There is absolutely no reason why it will not be there, unless of course there is some setting issue or default mode whereby the phone cannot accept external files without that mode being changed. I am not aware of such modes. But I wouldn't be surprised if it is a new safety feature for the really high end phones like your friend's.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Beware: Unlocking MotoG's bootloader will end the warranty immediately. In fact, the moment you unlock the bootloader, Motorola communicates with its server and sets your warranty status to "Expired".

Realized this after unlocking MotoG's bootloader trying to install CM11. This was a major fail as MotoG is apparently not downgradable. I now have a brick.

Both my Nexus7 and my wife's Grand Duos were extremely easy to ROM. Very disappointed with Moto.

Can someone please suggest a decent phone in a 10K-15K budget? It'd be great if I could actually be able to root and/or install custom ROMs easily.

EDIT: If someone has an old MotoG that they no longer use / broken screens etc.. PLEASE let me know. Need the Motherboard.

Did you try searching for unbrick guides on XDA? Many people have gone through this while downgrading. You might get lucky.

Yes, went through almost every one of those threads over a period of 16 hours. My device is beyond repair unless someone can make MBM-CI5.0 blankflash files.

Try this
http://exxecsoft.com/motoflasher.php
Flash the boot loader again. I guess it will do your work.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

I have given an Airtel 2G data pack (Pre-paid) for my son's Moto-E. Since last evening he said he could not access play store. 'web pages could not be opened through Google. It said "no connectivity". When FB was opened, the message was "news feeds could not be received". We shut down and re-started the phone a couple of times but no improvement. Airtel customer support checked the connection and said it was alright and told us to set the phones internet connection settings to default. Afterwards we were told to remove and re-insert the sim once more, and if the situation did not improve we were to call motorola support.

There was no improvement even afterwards so I left it at that. But when I tried today morning 6.00 AM it connected properly and there was no problem. It worked perfectly.

But again this afternoon it is back to the same problem. I think the problem is with Airtel and not the phone. Unfortunately there is no other phone at home in which I can put this micro sim and check. What is the remedy? Will 3G connection be better?

Go with the 3G plan cause Airtel 2G is of zero use even when the phone is stationary with full network. Or maybe get another sim which provides cheapest 3G rates just for browsing.

Yes, its a network issue. Actually even 3g networks are very unstable these days. There are numerous blackouts and stoppages in the network and also many loop holes. The network people won't be able to help you much here. My 3g at home religiously goes off from 8pm to 12am everyday without fail. Comes back to normal later. Also random outages during the day too at Airtels free will. In most other places it works fine. I suggest you port to another network after testing a friends network strength at your place. I'm about to do the same.

Also make sure the phone is not locked. Else it wont work. Airdroid is also good. Both have worked well for me. (And I am on Mavericks and Kit-Kat)
