Aren't you rooted? If not, WHY not?

What's the point of having an Android phone if you want to be stuck to manufacturer's schedule of upgrades? In that case iPhone/Lumia is better.

As said multiple times here before, TouchWiz is the real culprit, not JB. You should root and get rid of the bloatware, in case you aren't comfortable going for a custom ROM.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Dived into the world of custom ROMs this weekend. This was my first time so I did quite a bit of reading/watching before I took the final step. Used my wife's Samsung Galaxy Ace as the guinea pig. She was complaining of late that her phone was becoming too slow and unresponsive and I found the culprit to be the limited amount of RAM and storage. So I decided to go the custom ROM way.

I had earlier rooted her phone in order to uninstall the Samsung crap that came pre-installed on the phone. So I started the process by flashing CWM on the phone and then flashed the ImaginaryICS ROM on it. The ROM is quite brilliant, gives the impression that ICS is running on the phone. It uses Holo Launcher which is quite customizable. The phone has become much more snappy and battery life seems to be the same as earlier. My wife is happy so far, guess I'll stick to this ROM for a while.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Might sound like a silly/noob query, but just to check before I act on it. If I buy an app, it will remain in my list of apps and I can re-download it again to my phone, any number of times, correct?

Also, once I purchase an app, can I use the same for my android phone and tablet [both are on same gmail account].

Hi k_ajay,

In an event of a phone reset or a new phone, one will have to email the developer of the app with the old order number and also the new one. This will be present under google checkout(this is a mode of payment). After that, the developer will reply with a set of instructions on how to proceed (or) you could use an app called titanium backup to back up your apps.

Hope i have been able to answer your question.

Hi Sameerg001,

Has your phone returned from the service centre yet ?

Yeah, you have, thanks Arch Angel. That sounds like a process that could take time. For using Titanium backup, the phone or tablet needs to be rooted, correct??

The apps are linked to your account.
Even if you don't have TB, the apps can be downloaded and installed repeatedly. No need to contact the developer,I think.
With TB is better, of course, since with a root, you can get your data backup too.

If the app was purchased via Play Store, you will be able to download it any number of times on any phone/tablet configured with your google account. There is no limit on no of downloads or no of devices on which you can download.

These seem to be a Nexus beater! I like the fact that they are durable.

"The front and back are encased in a something called Dragontrail glass. Purported to be six times stronger than Gorilla Glass 2, Dragontrail should prove both scratch resistant and less prone to smashing than previous Sony handsets."

"Water and dust resistant, the Xperia Z is submersible in water for up to 30 minutes."

That means, its the Xperia Z! But a 5 inch screen is pretty massive. How big is the Nexus 4?

Here it is hands-on: http://reviews.cnet.com/cell-phones/...-35567069.html

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

JB announced for Galaxy S Advance. Though its only for Russian users for now, it might not be long before it hits Indian servers.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

A simpler guide for rooting for samsung devices.

Use the below thread and download the APK developed by Chainfire. All donations and credit should go to Chainfire.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2050297

Rooting is less than a second away post installing the app.

Next download a CWM based recovery ZIP.

Get Mobile ODIN pro from Market(Life time application if you are into rooting and playing with ROM for the heck of it).

Just flash CWM based recovery using Odin Pro.

Find a kernel which has the exploit fixed and flash the same.

This method ensures your custom rom count is 0 and you can still play around with any ROM you want. Follow the exact above steps where the app should root and flashing roms, kernel or recovery should be done through odin(mobile).
