The variants will now be more with the launch of new Innova. I am told that there will be a price increase of about a 1 lac and there will be new variants launched. but the 20+ lakh thing also seem to be true. Only time will tell what the actual price would be

At a time when Mahindra is polishing the rough edges in its designs and Tata is coming up with real good-looking vehicles, Toyota had to go back to the drawing boards and do the exact opposite. But why?
Agree completely with you both! The Hexa has transformed what was an unsure, ambiguous crossover design into a sharp, focused, SUV, and with the new XUV, the Cheetah has finally wiped its chin after the meal.

There has been something seriously wrong in Toyota's design language of late. I thought they had finally come back to their senses when I saw the new Corolla, which, although looking like a heavily modded Civic, still was comparatively milder compared to the gaping chrome mouths that all their other models had turned into, like the Prado and the Amazon. Just look at the Amazon and something like the Range Rover or the GL class, and you''ll see how Toyota has lost the plot when it comes to looking classy. And then they filtered the same design to the Fortuner and Innova as well.

Toyota doesn't seem to realize that the only reason their vehicles are still selling well is because of their bullet proof reliability.

Or perhaps, they do realize it, and they're saving money on the design by firing all their competent design teams, and the remaining underpaid interns are taking revenge by coming up with the crappiest redesigns possible!

re: SCOOP! 2016 Toyota Innova spotted testing in Bangalore. More pics on page 7

Friends, just yesterday I got the 65K km servicing done for my Innova, total bill came to around 14.5K. This is definitely on the higher side. This was due to some unscheduled part replacements. Other than the taper roller bearing, which costed a whopping 6.5K, others were small parts, however the price of these spares was by no means small.

Just look at the examples below:

Windshield water spray nozzles costing Rs 1557/- for a pair
Battery terminals (+ve and -ve) costing Rs 1695/-
Bearing for ABS equipped Innova costing Rs 6147/- and Rs 575/- for labor

Regular servicing charges and consumables are at par with the competition. However when it comes to the spare part prices, these burn a big hole in your pocket. When I saw the labels of replaced parts what I observed was that none of them are made in India, all are bring imported either from Thailand or Japan. No wonder the import duty added to these parts, takes its price way beyond the reasonable level. I wonder what is preventing TKM from manufacturing these parts in India.

Innova being a 10 year old model in India, by now the localization %age of Innova should have been in the high 90s % if not 100%. But the above revelation is quite perplexing. With the all new Innova slated for 2016 launch, I wonder what would be the extent of localization .

@ autoindian - maybe they own their bullet proof reliability to the imported parts. Seems they are not trusting the reliability of Indian made things and fear losing their image. 😂

Toyota has imported some more units of the Innova MPV for R&D purposes. The import data indicates that the vehicles have a 2.4-litre diesel engine.

Aditya. The info about power output is incorrect as posted in news section. The 2.4L 2GD-FTV churns out 110KW(148BHP) and 330 NM of Torque.

Thanks, doesn't seem like AT is coming now.

There had been news that AT will be launched with the new refresh, seems only speculation and no AT launch happening.

Hi. Are you guessing or you've heard something very concrete on this? I had heard fairly definitely that it is in fact coming in AT.

Thanks

Can't see AT mentioned in the test vehicles imported as shared by Aditya. Generally the AT models are mentioned clearly here.

I myself am in the boat for AT and nothing beats an AT + Innova combination.

This engine when mated to 6-Speed Manual/Auto boxes makes 400NM peak torque from 1600-2000 RPM not 330NM as you have quoted. 330NM is the torque it makes at idle (i.e 1200 RPM).

When this engine (2GD-FTV) is paired to 5-Speed Manual Transmission it makes 343NM peak torque at 1400RPM (1400-2800)

Have a look here:

Snapshot from official press release.

Thanks for the info. In any case this is a huge power upgrade over the existing one , which stands at 100 BHP & 200NM if I am not mistaken. The fuel efficiency numbers will surely go up by 15-20%.

Thank you mroptimist for providing those figures and the link to the official press release. It is quite an interesting read. With 330NM torque just from 1200 RPM, this car will be a hoot to drive.

The specs on paper appear too good to be real. Are you sure that Toyota won't detune this engine for the Indian version? Also it is important to know the extent of localization for the new Innova. Not sure what is the current Innova's localization percentage, but one thing is for sure, many spares are imported from Thailand/ Japan, which definitely adds to the spiralling cost of the Innova.

Edit:

Guys in the link provided by mroptimist, there is a pdf Presentation for new engine series. It is an interesting 36 page document with good graphics, clearly explaining Toyota's philosophy behind developing these new diesel engines. It is a must read.

http://newsroom.toyota.co.jp/en/download/8368758

In one of the videos I saw the new gen engine VGT speed going upto 2.3 lakh rpm
