Just that HP/Ton & Torque/Ton would have been that much better / sweeter.
FCA reportedly has this 2.0L MD II mill already available in this state of tune in other geographies.
There are other 2.0L Diesels in the market offering this for some time. Some with lighter bodies.
Was looking for this tune in the Limited - MT - At least.

Nobody would have blamed FCA for providing class equivalent / leading power (comparing this to the current top crop of 2.0L diesels)

I can agree with the cost aspect.
But what if the MT could have handled this torque and there were no need to go for any hardware changes.
The limitation here is surely the gearbox. Getting a better one and twin turbo set up will definitely shoot the cost up. Then people will complain about pricing, the last few pages is exactly that. More than the max power, I would be more worried about how driveable it is in day to day usage.

PS: No harm is expecting more, but doing that will disappoint you more when expectation is not met.

Just a thought - I think we are all referring to - Twin Scroll Turbo - and Not - TWO Turbos.

Though as rightly pointed out - not sure if the current MT / AT / Clutch can handle 400Nm

Pretty sure though that an Equal Length Primary Twin Scroll Turbo - would have brought in higher EFFICIENCIES (up to 5% increase in fuel efficiency) , PERFORMANCE and COST

I read that the design manufacture of the Equal Length Twin Scroll Turbos is VERY COMPLEX (as it would have to fit in the confines of typically compact engine bays - not sure that would apply to the compass) and hence pretty expensive.

But leads to serious performance gains including the top end.

I'm not 100% sure of the answer due to lack of literature available on the web for this particular engine and also no personal experience with it, but I think it's not.

A variable geometry turbine in itself is a better technology over a twin scroll turbo which uses uses two fixed turbine sizes for a single turbo I believe?

FIAT Powertrains call it the "Two Stage VGT". Twin stage terminology is generally used by turbo manufacturers to denote two separate turbo itself, either working in series or parallel. I suspect it might be low pressure turbo feeding a big VGT to reduce low end lag, retaining the high end punch.

If it's a twin scroll turbo, calling it a "Two stage VGT" is as much a joke as these companies calling CVT gearboxes as 5 speed CVT, 6 and 7 speed CVT etc. Isn't it?

re: Meeting the Jeep Compass. EDIT: Priced between 14.95 to 20.65 lakhs

I am somewhat embarrassed to ask this, but would some esteemed fellow member tell me where in the Compass brochure available on the https://www.jeep-india.com/assets/pd...s-brochure.pdf website has the details of the different variants and the exterior colours on offer?

I saw the available colours and variant breakup in the training manual posted some pages back, but could not find any info in the official brochure.

But anyways, come on. Is 173ps - 350Nm less? It is competitive enough for the Tucson - Tiguan segment the top variants will compete with, and much more than the Creta - SCross 1.6 segments that the low end will encounter.

According to this Fiat Powertrain document that 190hp engine you mention is a 1.9 litre JTD. This engine was jointly developed with Opel/GM (like the 1.3) and the base engine block is almost a decade old. The 2.0 litre M.jet is Fiat's own engine developed with upcoming emission norms in mind and it's found its way into the Compass' bay.

Thanks. I missed the 1.9 part seeing the tune.

So does the 2.0 Multijet come with a much better tune than 173ps in other markets?

Thank you @swiftdiesel - you have even provided the documentation from FPT.
I was about to post the same from wikipedia

@CrAzY dRiVeR - I was wishfully asking that - FCA provide us with a higher state of tune - with current hardware.

However - as per page / slide 20 - The 2.0L MJ II Engine - Develops - 170HP and 360Nm Torque
Hence I doubt that they will be able to change the specs on this anytime soon. I am also assuming that the attached presentation is current.

FCA India - At least tune it to 360Nm in the Compass.

As per the document provided by @swiftdiesel - on page 26 of the FPT presentation - which highlights the - Transmissions -

My interpretation is that they are using the C546 / 2840 Transmission in the -
Diesel MT - Compass - Transverse Mount - MAN / MTA - 6 Speed (Manual / Manual Transmission Automated)
This has a 400 Nm Max Input Torque Rating - so power handling hopefully should not be an issue.

There is a Transmission marked separately for MAN / AWD - 2855 - 6 speed - if this is going to come into the 4x4 / Limited / MT - Then it is rated for 560Nm Max Input Torque - Power handling should be a non issue.
This is a longitudinal placement.

Not sure if they are going to have different Manual Transmissions for the FWD and AWD/4x4s - Diesels - Food for thought

By this line of thought -
The Petrol Transmission units has to be different.
The automatics are anyway different - DDCT 7 Speed for petrol & 9 Speed for diesel.

If there are going to be different 6 Speed Manual Transmissions used for the FWD and AWD - Petrol & Diesel models - Question is - Will the Gear Ratios be different?

The problem is the FPT chart/pdf you see is pretty old, I guess it is from 2008 or 2009. We are definitely not sure which GB has gone into the compass unless FCA comes out with it. Considering the volumes they have targeted for Compass world wide, FCA may have developed a new gearbox or altered the existing one with a lower torque rating to keep the costs low.

re: Meeting the Jeep Compass. EDIT: Priced between 14.95 to 20.65 lakhs

Is Jeep again going the FIAT way?
They have created a lot of hype and this could potentially be an awesome car, however, if they do not announce the pricing then all the hype will die down and people will lose interest. Even this thread has decreased activity as compared to earlier. FCA needs to understand that Indian people have a very short attention span and people do not remember things a long as they would think.

Further, FCA should try to capitalize on the herd mentality of the Indian people and launch path breaking pricing immediately. If this pricing and the product generate a good number of bookings and the sales, then a lot of people will start buying this as people will think that many are buying so it will be a good product.

@CrAzY dRiVeR - I had read a foreign review - where in it stated that such a higher tune was available (190HP & 400Nm) - however I am not able to find it again.

@nkrishnap - you are probably right - I had mentioned this in my post - that I am not sure how current this information is.

It was always July end pricing and August deliveries. Can't find the July 4th date discussed anywhere outside of team bhp.

Current events are all media and public previews only.

PS - Good thing is that team-bhp review might be ready as soon as the prices are announced. Many people might prefer to wait for it otherwise incase the prices are good.
