Apart from the 10000 kms service, the only additional expense so far has been money (Rs.5000/-) spent on fixing a minor dent/scratches on the rear left door made by a two wheeler lunatic.
Is there any rattling anywhere? My Ecoboost is at 4000 km and I can already hear some rattling in the instrument cluster and the central keyboard panel on uneven roads.

Unless you buy the Ecoboost version, i see no reason why you shouldn't wait for Ford to upgrade the diesel engine. However they haven't confirmed any fixed dates for this to happen yet.

Honestly i don't find the ride too stiff. You can try using a lower tyre pressure like around 30psi all around. The stiff suspension has its plus also. The car will feel planted at high speeds & dispatches long distance in highway with aplomb.

I had a minor accident after which my ride developed some rattle. Ford service fixed that but it happens to come back after a while. It happens mainly at high speeds, not sure whats causing that though.

Nope - as of now there are no rattles (Thank God!).

Your car looks great! Have you done some detailing work (3M)? I am thinking of doing it sometime shortly.

I agree that the long distance (higher speed) ride is decent (and one does not feel the strain). The problem arises on some of the crater-like roads in my town. Over these, the Ecosport shows its negative character, esp if driven rather carelessly.

Re: Ford EcoSport : Official Review

Had finished my 30K service 2 months back. The bill had then come to 8K which included fuel filter AC filter replacement.
I plan to drive my Ecosport from Bangalore to Leh starting this weekend and gave Ecosport for Service/General Check up! The Ford service is just commendable. This is not the first time and happy to see awesome job everytime. I have had experiences with Maruti,Toyota,Hyundai,Chevy,Hyundai, must admit, been a Ford Customer for 15 years and are the the best in Business.

Details:
Service centre: Elite Ford
Advisor: Rahul
Took the car for service/general check up. Had taken appointment a week back.
The car was taken for test drive, there was a small rattle in boot door.
The car was thoroughly checked which included Battery check, Clutch bleeding/check,brake check, engine etc. The job took whole day and the car was given wash, interior cleaning as well.
The best part, the bill came to 0! And what more the car was handed over at prompt 5PM as promised.

A 2 year report!

Time flies so fast. The Ecosport TDCi has been in our garage for over 2 years now. It all feels like just yesterday! And it has been a good ownership experience over 22,000kms. Actually good is an understatement, the ownership experience is better than satisfactory one! Ford has come a long way and is doing much better job than the Escort, Icon and Endeavour days.

Ford EcoSport : Official Review-home.jpg

Listed below are my thoughts and my extended warranty decision.

The Positives
  • Safety and comfort of occupants. (Good balance between ride and handling for a crossover)
  • Gives a clear all round visibility of the road.
  • Instills confidence to push it to the limits (Reports of EcoSport tumbling is clearly rash/unsafe driving or due to one off causes).
  • Being very light on the wallet in terms of maintenance and the fuel costs ( good fuel economy as promised) .
  • Ageing gracefully – Still love it in Black! (Without any 3M treatments done).
  • Very good built quality (no rattles no squeaks).
  • Holding good residual values (Thank God for the prices of Creta and S-cross and numerous price hikes over 2years!).
  • Reliable
  • Spare parts easily available and reasonably priced.
  • An excellent sound system.
  • Sub 4m compact dimensions.
The negatives
  • The price hikes has sent it galloping to the next segment where I personally don’t see the VFM for EcoSport.
  • Torque sufficient enough but still wish for a little more at the lower end. (Culprit the high fuel economy tune of engine)
  • Didn’t like the way the plastic cladding around the car aged! (So painted it in matte black at our usual paint shop and boy it made a big difference!)
  • Expensive extended warranty package. (Personal opinion – explained below)

The Extended Warranty package

The warranty was lapsing on July ’15 and as a result was getting a flurry of calls from the dealership. (Kairali Ford, Thrissur)

Ford EcoSport : Official Review-extended-warrantypage001.jpg

The dealership quoted Rs.18,222 /- for 3rd year or Rs 36,567/- for 3rd&4th&5th year which I found little steep and partially was curious to see whether I could responsibly service and maintain a Ford car myself. Hence went against the norm by opting out of the warranty package and getting my
EcoSport serviced from my trusted mechanic at much lower labour cost.

Ford had given me a little boost for my decision earlier in February this year when they appointed Eureka Ford, Chennai (Contact details below) as their authorised spare parts supplier. I was in touch with them and they were very courteous. They said they would send any parts I require by Bus so that it can reach our Trivandrum office in 24 hours. I was quite happy with my choice.

The day arrived when my decision was put to test. Unfortunately by my own mistake earlier last month the Chrome piece on the left fog lamp got slightly damaged. I emailed Eureka Ford regarding my requirement. They send me the below diagram to confirm the same and also enclosed the price list .And was quite taken back by their professional approach. (Competition has helped consumers at last!).

Ford EcoSport : Official Review-gmail-parts-ford-ecosport-kl-08-bb-880page001.jpg

I was out of town after a few days and replied them as soon as I arrived. But there was a surprise waiting. The Eureka guy tells me that Ford has already appointed new spare part distributor in Kerala – Focuz automobiles, Cochin (contact details below). Well I couldn’t be happier about my decision. My dad has been dealing with Focuz for the past 15 years or so and they are very accommodative. They are the spare parts dealers of TATA trucks and buses, LEYLAND trucks and buses, TATA cars, HERO HONDA etc in Kerala. I communicated to the concerned guy at Focuz and ordered the part. As the parts were just starting to arrive from Ford at their facility, they did not have the said part in stock. They said they would arrange it within a week. As my residence is in Thrissur , I said I would collect it when I come to Ernamkulam/Cochin next or they could just courier it to me. Instead they suggested that I could collect the part from their Thrissur branch (details below) after making payment there at no extra cost. And within 7 days the part arrived at the Thrissur branch from where I collected it and fixed it myself.

Now with both Jazz iDTEC and Celerio DDiS added to our garage, the EcoSport would be the long drive car!
It would be interesting to see how the story continues…

The strangest part of the above exercise was my interaction with the Ford customer service. When I had called them to know the contact details of Eureka Ford, not only did they say we have no information regarding their own spare parts distributors (6 months after appointments and press releases!) they just kept on redirecting me to the nearest Ford dealership .

Hence I’m enclosing the contact details of the Ford Spare parts distributors whom I dealt with and other distributor addresses which I came across for the reference of fellow bhpians. Hope it would be helpful!

I can relate to this - I was surprised when I realized that the car I thought of as 'new' is actually 2 years old.

A suggestion - can you create a new thread in the Directory section? That'll make it easier for other readers to locate.

Many thanks for sharing details of the Bangalore center too!

Is that a recently revised price? I remember paying something around 17K for 3rd and 4th year warranty when I bought the car. Any reason why you did not opt to buy it when you bought the car?

Does this extended warranty price vary across dealers? At the time of delivery of my ecosport around three months back I was quoted around 22000/- for extended warranty upto five years. I had not taken the extended warranty at that time, delaying the decision till the two year warranty was over.

I had deliberately opted out of the extended warranty package to fit my budget.
And add to that high labour cost and pretty low maintenance I've incurred till now. The car is estimated to run 12k kms per year and with the number of EcoSports on road (incl the self driving companies) and with the complaints I have come across till now it sounds practical to be out of warranty! And also my confidence level in the service guys at the dealership was going north. As they are becoming more and more sales guys than actual service guys. I personally hate that attitude. It makes me even doubt their genuine work. My trusted mechanic gives me peace of mind and does not resort to this kind of behaviour.

I did not compare it with other dealerships as I was already more than half hearted regarding the opting out!
Do consider mine was a TDCi, if yours was a Petrol one , the extended warranty cost might be on the lower side.
Barring the local taxes the warranty package cost should be in the same ballpark if its under the Ford guide lines.

Re: Ford EcoSport : Official Review

Much to my dismay, I am not able to drive my Ecosport much due to work pressure and have only driven it for 11K kms with 2 months left to completion of 2 years.

I wanted to understand does it impact the diesel engine if it is driven less. I plan to keep the car for around 6-7 years and unfortunately I do not see it crossing 50K kms also during this ownership period.

I recently bought the extended warranty being offered by Metro Ford, Bangalore for 3rd and 4th year at 16553/-. Till now have not had any major issues apart from one tyre burst.

Ha ha, so I've got company - 12k kms in 2 years.

The cumulative mileage (11k, or 50k) is not important, what matters is how often it is driven in a month. If you drive 500 kms over 1 weekend, and don't touch the car for the rest of the month, that would be far worse than using the car for 100 km every week.

Just like the saying 'an idle mind is a devil's workshop', a car that is idle for longer periods is at risk, some examples are:
  • Battery drain (particularly since it has more electronics, like any other modern car. Remote entry/keyless entry all require some power draw, the 12V socket is always powered on, ICE is always on standby, etc.)
  • Rodents and insects looking for a home might just find one. And they might have midnight snack cravings that target parts of your car!

I guess I should be fine then. I stay in Marathahalli and drive every day for around 9 kms for 1.5 hrs for commuting to office.

Re: Ford EcoSport : Official Review

Ecoboost owners, how are you finding your car? I TD an Ecosport Boost and was very disappointed. The car wasn't quick at all and the first acceleration was worse than an Avventura. This is in sharp contrast with the reviews but let me mention that the TD had clocked 35K and was very abused. That's why I'm still not convinced that the Ecoboost can be this bad. Can owners please give feedback? The TD car has got me really confused.
