It seems these horns aren't available online.

Harsha tyres, Visakhapatnam charged close to 35k for upgrading four tyres.

Initial impression:
Steering has become hard and suspension little stiffer.

Checked the air pressure in the tyres and it was 40psi in all of them. So, after reducing them to 30psi (1psi more than the recommended), then the ride was smooth and felt the grip, but at lower speeds, the steering was little tight and once you gain momentum it was normal.
The stance has improved, here are few snaps after the upgrade:
Is it fine to upgrade to 285/60/R18 on stock rims? Don't you think it's an overkill for stock rims?

Not at all an overkill, absolutely fine and looks great. Few pics for you to decide.
As mentioned earlier in this blog, steering is little tight in lower speeds but good when gains momentum.

Re: 2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender & Facelift Review

Done with Korean brand Fortune PPF in Auto Triz, Vizag.
They have charged me around 90k and came with 10 year warranty, but they said, they can only guarantee upto 6 years on white colour cars. As PPF might turn into yellowish and visible on white colour cars after 5 to 6 years. Other than white colour cars, this PPF will last longer according to Auto Triz.

I also tested this PPF by scratching with knife and keys for checking self healing property and it was absolutely good.

1st service also done under one hour excluding washing in Leela Krishna Toyota, Visakhapatnam.
Washing was excluded as advised by PPF guys for 2 to 3 days for PPF to dry.

Are these the Continental LX2s? How are they compared to stock Bridgestones?

Re: 2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender & Facelift Review

What would be approximate cost of repainting a Fortuner? Both FNG and Toyota prices please - if anyone knows them approximately.

Asking this because am trying to mentally deny myself that a PPF or Ceramic Coating is not really worth paying closer to a lakh at the outset for a new car (with normal regular clean and dusting off with a Jopasu Duster)

Assuming, the car stays with me for 15 years, I still think spending a lakh at say 6th 7th year to do a paint job might be a better bet financially and also the car gets renewed paint for another 7/8 years.

Came across this 360 degree camera which fits in the stock HU for both 2021 Innovas and Fortuners.

Does'nt work for me. Have tried all permutations and combinations. Has anyone been able to do this in the 2021 Fortuner?

Re: 2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender & Facelift Review

Hi, question to Legender owners -
Read multiple posts that the black roof is a wrap and that too, the quality isn’t up to the mark (chips showing up on new Legender etc.).
If this is so, does it mean it’s factory paint underneath? And if so, can we remove the wrap altogether to reveal Pearl white factory paint? If yes, this maybe a good option few years down the line when the wrap starts to come off due to the elements and usage. Of course, those who want the dual tone look may still want to re-wrap it.

Re: 2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender & Facelift Review

Hi,

Need expert advice.

We will be travelling to Manali towards the end of December and the temperature range is predicted to be like -1/-13. So, it will be below zero degrees for 24 hrs.

Any specific points to be taken care of while starting Fortuner Automatic in such cold conditions.
Do we need add any additive/non freezing mix for Diesel for such conditions.

Also if anyone is aware of getting good quality fuel on Shimla to Manali route. Please let me know the fuel pump.

Please guide.

Thanks

Spoke with service advisor at Harsha Toyota, Kondapur: Per him, we don't need any additive for starting in sub zero conditions.

That's correct. Diesel sold at cold locations comes with anti-freeze additives.

Driving the 2021 Toyota Fortuner 4x2 Diesel Automatic

After Ford Leaving India, Fortuner's Direct Rival is MG Gloster. According to me Fortuner is very much rock-solid and way much oriented towards the way it is to driven. I had driven the 4x4 Fortuner with 178 BHP 2.8L Diesel but now it was time to drive the 2.8 with a massive 204 BHP.

Pros:

  • Macho Look and Feel
  • Great Road Presence
  • Powerful Engine
  • Effortless to Drive
  • Ready for Offroad

Cons:

  • Transmission Takes its own sweet time to shift in 'D' mode
  • Misses out on Common Features at the price point
  • Lots of Hard Plastics on Offer
  • Costlier than what it has to offer
  • Heavy Steering at Low speeds

Exterior:

From the Front the car resembles its nature. It looks aggressive and Sturdy. It has Piano Black Finished Radiator grille surrounded by all LED Projector Headlamps with LED DRLs. Coming Below it has Proximity Sensors with LED Foglamps and below it and more you go down you notice a wierdly placed turn-indicators for the reason best known to Toyota.

A Glimpse of Projector setup.

2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender & Facelift Review-img_1487.jpg
A macho front look.

In the Rear you get all LED tail lamps combo with High Mounted stop lamp in the spoiler which is also an LED Unit. A rear wiper with Washer and a rear parking camera aided with Parking Sensors on the bumper are also welcomed.

2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender & Facelift Review-img_1491.jpg

Interiors:

Toyota, as usual they have given the all-black interiors. All the Seats are comfortable and there are no ergonomical issues. The Steering Feels big and heavy to hold with buttons to control Infotainment System and the display in the instrument Cluster, its adjustable for both tilt and Telescopic functions. Adding to this, the vehicle is also equipped with paddle-shifters and cruise-control whose stalk is clearly visible behind the wheel.
The left stalk is for wipers and washer and wipers are automatic too and the right stalk controls headlamps and signals. The vehicle is also equipped with auto-headlamps.

2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender & Facelift Review-img_1480.jpg

The Instrument cluster is basic with an analog speedometer and tachometer with fuel and temperature gauges with a lot of tell tale lights. In the center there is a TFT Display which shows the audio track, Real time fuel eco, DTE, Trip meters etc.

2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender & Facelift Review-img_1479.jpg

The Infotainment System is basic and has normal things to do. The vehicle was equipped with a non-branded 8 speaker audio system which had decent audio output unlike the 11-speaker JBL audio which is found in 4x4 variants. The Legender variant gets Dual zone climate control but this had single zone but ventilated seats on offer. Moving towards the left the car has two glove boxes. The upper one is cooled and larger lower one is lockable. The IRVM is auto-dimming. Thanks Toyota for No more Cost Cutting here.

2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender & Facelift Review-img_1478.jpg
Thanks to Infotainment System which has Physical controls too.

2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender & Facelift Review-img_1483.jpg
Auto Dimming IRVM for the Win.

Engine, Transmission & Capabilities:

The vehicle is offered with 4 Drivetrain combos:
  • 2.7L Petrol with 6 speed Manual
  • 2.7L Petrol with 6 speed Torque Convertor
  • 2.8L Diesel with 6 speed Manual (450nm Torque)
  • 2.8L Diesel with 6 speed Torque Convertor (500nm Torque)

For the Petrol Variants no-one pays attention to them as they are serious gas guzzlers. The Variant which I drove was 2.8L Diesel with 6 speed torque convertor 4x2. As soon as you start the engine, the vehicle starts with near to no vibrations unlike the previous gen 3.0L D4D variants which used to shake the entire vehicle to its nerves. The cabin is silent and calm. In the Normal mode, there is power from as low as 1300-1400 RPMs which is similar for the sports mode. One can notice the progress the engine makes from such low revs as the turbo-lag is very well contained. The car pulls strongly in the mid-range which helps to achieve triple digit speeds in no time. The top end seems to be dead and no point of taking the engine till redline. In the Eco mode things dull down. The throttle inputs become less aggressive, the air-con works on lowest consumption possible and gearbox takes its own sweet time to shift and tries to stay in the highest gear possible. Put it in the Sports mode (both for the transmission and engine) and the car flies, shifts happen smoothly and quickly, shifts at high rpms and keeps the motor on the boil.

The 2796cc Turbocharged Inline-4 Diesel with 204 BHP and 500nm Torque.

2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender & Facelift Review-img_1484.jpg
Noticed the Blue cap?? Its the Ad-Blue Filler in the engine bay unlike other cars having besides the fuel filler cap.

2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender & Facelift Review-img_1482.jpg
The shifter for the 6 speed Torque Convertor which has manual mode.

2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender & Facelift Review-img_1481.jpg
Drive modes buttons with Traction Control button. Auto Start-Stop to reduce fuel consumption.

The vehicle can be taken for soft off-roading as its equipped with a very good traction control system and Auto LSD (Limiting Slip Differential) on the rear axle whereas the 4x4 comes with ton of off-roading goodies like Differential Locking , a multi range transmission for 2H, 4H and 4L with Active Hill Descent Control (which uses brakes) etc.

Space and Additional Features:

All the Headrests are adjustable in the vehicle. The Second row seats offer good legroom even when pushed all the way forward and under thigh support is also good. There is a center arm rest with two cup holders and the middle row also features reclining seats with one hand tumble down capabilities for easy and quick in and out of third row passengers.

2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender & Facelift Review-img_1488.jpg
Rear legroom is more than adequate for passengers like me who are 6ft 2" tall.

2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender & Facelift Review-img_1492.jpg
Center Arm rest with two cup holders.

The third row seats feel a bit cramped with little under thigh support for big guy like me but is adequate for long journeys who are 5.6ft to 5.8ft. The third row is manually operated and doesn't create a flatbed and need to be hanged sideways in the hooks provided unlike its rival Endeavour which had electric operation.

2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender & Facelift Review-img_1489.jpg

The boot is pretty decent at 330L with all the rows up. Gets things done for weekend picnic.

2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender & Facelift Review-img_1490.jpg

Talking about the rubber, The vehicle which I drove was equipped with 265/65 R17s Bridgestone Dueler All Terrain Tires. The 4x4 variants gets 18 inchers while the profile decreases i.e. 265/60 R18s and changed alloys. Toyota used to offer a full sized alloy spare but now switched over to a space saver steel wheel.

2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender & Facelift Review-img_1493.jpg
The 265 section Bridgestone Dueler All Terrain Rubber

Features wise the car is equipped with necessary ones like 7 Airbags, ABS, EBD, Vehicle Stability Management, Hill Hold Assist, All wheel Discs etc. Plus there is ultra sonic sensor in the cabin which senses for motion in the cabin when the vehicle is locked. If found so it starts flashers and honks to give alert. It also has the anti glass breaking system which detects if any of the windshields or windows are broken due to criminal activity and alerts for the same. All the windows and windshields are heat reflecting and acoustic glasses.

Verdict:

A Rough and tough anywhere go reliable vehicle which misses out on features like sunroof, premium audio, ambient lighting etc.

Re: 2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender & Facelift Review

Thank you for the review. Our in laws got one a couple of months ago and I had the opportunity to take it around the city and on the highways. I d agree with all your observations. The car is a lot more refined than the previous generation and the additional power is a welcome addition.

But the ride quality is something we have found to be very bothersome. We hadn't taken a test drive as the dealership (Lanson Chennai) did not offer one given the demand. On day to day use on bad roads, we find that the fortuner throws the occupants around like no other and ride is far.. far from plush.

Chennai roads post the heavy rainfall episodes should have been the ideal surface for the Fortuner but the family prefers to use the Innova crysta for day to day use as they find it a lot more comfortable.

If you are considering it, take a longish drive and make sure that it works for you.
