Re: 2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender & Facelift Review

My brother and I have been looking to buy the new Fortuner (not Legender) and we are fine with any variant be it MT/AT and 4x2/4x4.

The funny thing is, we've asked around all of Dehradun, Ghaziabad, Noida and almost all of Delhi but nobody has any stock and the minimum waiting is 6 months!. In fact we offered the Dehradun Toyota Showroom ready cash of full OTR price if he could deliver the car to us in a day and still he said that we'll have to book first and then wait - a lot!

We've test driven almost all cars between Harrier and Gloster but for Fortuner, the test drive and display vehicles seem to be like unicorns . Finally, got a call from the SA that we can come and check a customer's vehicle that had arrived for delivery and we checked out the interiors and exteriors but declined a test drive as i don't believe it's ethically correct to drive someone else's vehicle without their permission.

So, if anyone has any inputs, please advice.

Toyota’s factory is closed from 26 April to 14 May, so getting a Fortuner now will only be possible in June or July earliest.

The stock locator available on their website for all dealerships shows no stock for the regular Fortuner (any variant)

https://www.toyotabharat.com/showroo.../#availability

Searched for Legender (both 4X2 and 4X4) stock and it’s showing available in most locations!!

Their response was that the website may not have been updated.
According to the day mentioned at the bottom in the stock availability page, the last update was on 10th April, that 4X4 AT would’ve been sold out in no time!

We went to MG today for the Gloster as well, they gave us a tentative timeline for 6 months as well.

We haven't booked any of the vehicles as we're still contemplating what to do haha.

I saw you have published Day 1 travelogues, mine is still in making and is going to take some time

Absolutely! This is one amazing mile muncher. We as a family have done numerous multi-thousand km road trips over the last decade and a half, and usually it takes us a few days to "recuperate" i.e. get back to our regular daily routine without any lingering tiredness, post completion of a long road trip. However, this time we were up & running the very next day post our return to Bangalore! From a driver's perspective, I was the only one at the wheel throughout the entire trip and my Fortuner is equipped with a manual transmission - still not an iota of tiredness after this long haul. Need I say more

The only thing one can do is wait, havent heard of the 6 month timeframe, galaxy toyota said 12 weeks when i checked with them few days back, booked a 4x2 At with espirit noida in march last week he has commited for june, which i guess most likely is going to become july since the plant is closed in may till the 14th, can't do
Anything else except wait, Sadly no other worthy option in the segment anymore, test drove the gloster did not like it too much felt lethargic in comparison to the fortuner , on the flip side its loaded with technology to the brim.

Can't help that can we,this i am planning to keep for the complete 10 years and since i am in greater noida after that period might keep it for out of town trips using the eastern peripheral expressway unless by then some genius implements the 10 year rule across india! Also the way toyota keeps hiking its prices i am so sure that even if we sell it 5 years down the line it wont lose a lot on value that we bought it at

I like this response brother let me try it on my better half

I am half inclined to buy 4x4 manual and tick all my itch once and for all. But right now my dealer in Gurgaon informs me that Toyota has closed all the bookings for time being and he does not know when will it open.

I hope you know that the NCR rule applies to the whole of NCR. Which includes areas upto Muzzafarnagar. It is just a matter of time when the UP government also starts implementing the NCR rule with force in the whole of NCR portion which falls under UP.

I am absolutely aware of the extent of where the rule applies to sir ,its implementation in areas of ncr is another matter. How its implemented in the near future in UP and Haryana only time will tell.

I'm in a similar predicament. Now even I've finalized that I will keep it as a 5 year vehicle only.
The Meerut RTO had started de-registering older vehicles since the past couple of years and their not renewing any fitness certificates either.
So things are happening now. Just a matter of time.

Absolutely correct, but they are de registering diesel vehicles which have completed 15 years as per the rc, whereas in delhi its automatically done in the 10th year for diesel. I sold my first gen fortuner in 2019 in the 8th year of ownership whereas a friend has kept his due to the abyssmal sale value his was a 2012 second gen, he only uses it for his trips outside , just came back from a trip to spiti in it without hassles. Makes me wonder should i have held onto my fortuner as well and used it for such trips, got peanuts for it anyway. Hence this time i am planning to keep it as long as its feasible to do so without hassles.
