I personally would trust only maxtrax for a heavy vehicle. There is a dealer down south who stocks these.

Next time this happens, air down your tyres to 15-18psi. This will help you gain more traction. Also did you try engaging Low Range?

Don't worry too much regarding driving with 4H on. It's not advised but the Fortuner can take that much beating.

Even with Maxtrax there are chances of you not getting out. Don't worry you will learn from your experiences. Also do keep a 5 ton tow rope and shackle in your car.

Thank you. I was looking for brand name. Maxtrax it is then.

Thanks for the pointers. Yes, a good tow hook and shackles are on my list.

I did not try using the 4L. Then I thought torque was not the problem and it was lack of grip. Thinking back maybe I should have tried 4L instead of giving it full acceleration in 4H and spitting sand all around. ATRAC would probably have done a better job in 4L than 4H.

Agree with dean5545 here. Lowering the tire pressure is a thumb-rule for sand driving - ensures flotation. Also, engaging 4L would have definitely helped as it would have provided the required torque (and more) without the wheel-spin that you generated by constantly flooring the throttle, thereby worsening your situation. One more trick that you missed was engaging the rear-diff lock - would have provided more traction by sending power to both rear wheels, as opposed to one spinning wheel in your case. Having said all this, sand driving is a tricky proposition, and now all the more with sand drying up due to onset of summer. If you intend to embark on more such adventures, better get yourself a set of good A/T tires.

As they say, learning never stops

Re: 2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender & Facelift Review

Came across this channel in youtube. Not much content yet on Fortuner but looks like a potent over lander in making. Browsed through some of previous videos on Hilux and were nice. Good to see Toyota offering lot of functional mods as official accessory against chrome bits that they sell here. While the some add on on car are not official accessory, the fit and quality is amazing.

This is used for wireless mirrorcast. The useless SmartDevicelink might use it too but not sure.

Re: 2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender & Facelift Review

Test drove new fortuner. Strangely there was a Kat Kat sound coming from steering over rough road.

The Test drive vehicle had 10k on it. The sales guy said it’s normal sound as it’s new power steering from Toyota but I am not convinced as I drive the old 2014 model and it doesn’t show such symptoms.

The noise isn’t there on straight or undulating roads but only on potholed or rough roads. The speed over such roads were 10 /20kmph max. Felt something loose but the steering responses were normal otherwise.

New fortuner owners is this your observation too. ? Planning in play to buy therefore a bit concerned if such is the case with new type of steering types. I hope no long term issues with steering components of new MY2022 fortuner’s

Don't have this noise in my make 2021 Fortuner. Haven't heard of any issues related to steering column. Facelift comes with Variable Flow Control steering which is quite an improvement.

Even my Fortuner doesn't have any sounds as referenced. Mine is January, 2021 make.

The sales person is feeding you nonsense, there has to be some problem in the steering assembly with the test drive vehicle. Forget Fortuner, there should be no kat kat or any sound from the steering while going over bad roads or otherwise in the steering of any car unless there is some issue with the specific unit.

Cheers

Re: 2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender & Facelift Review

A question for the latest 200 bhp Fortuner Diesel guys. Is the clutch heavy? Like can I use it in traffic in day to day life?

I am not getting an idea of the same as no one in my friend circle has the latest Fortuner and the test drive one's just cannot trust as they might be abused.

I did TD of same last week. It's heavy to use but with imt button pressed jerks are less and gearbox works smoothly. So maybe it should be ok but not completely.

Certainly an issue with the test-drive car. Please try another vehicle/dealer.

The clutch is not super heavy. As a matter of fact, it is quite light for a 2.5 ton mammoth that the Fortuner is. That said, if intended usage is primarily city driving, AT is certainly the way to go.

Clutch is neither light nor heavy, it's heavier than Ertiga and lighter than MG Hector. Hope you get what I am saying
