Re: Toyota Innova Hycross Review

Hi Everyone, Greetings to the team bhp family. This is my first post.

I had booked a ZX(O) AG bronze on Nov. 25 at Galaxy Toyota Lajpat Nagar Delhi. After almost 8 months of wait, countless unattended calls and stinker emails, I have just been informed that my car shall be delivered to me this month as they have received some production chart from Toyota and my vehicle is reflecting in those list. They demanded Rs 5L to be transferred to their account in next 3 hours or my allotment would be given to someone else. Having no option I made the payment. Is this a normal phenomenon with Toyota / Dealership to hold someone ransom ?

Also I need certain advices from folks on the car delivery

1) What are the key things to keep in mind before taking delivery of this car ?

2) Will it be a big ask for PDI before remitting the final payment ?

3) Recommended accessories / treatments for the ZXO variant.

I had booked on the same date Nov 25 2022 and got delivery on 1 March 2023.
Yes its a normal practice by Toyota, they demand money in advance. I had paid 10 lakhs in advance on 16 Feb 2022 to get the Hycross delivery on 1 Mar at launch price. Pay them advance whatever they want and get this vehicle.

Get the 7 d mats (Autoforum) and they are the best for Hycross. Additionally, apart from mudflaps, no other accessories are mandatory. Good Luck !!

Reason. Needed to shift the car to a "Flat bed" after a water wading incident and to do that we need to put the car to Neutral.
We are advised not to start the engine to avoid Engine damage .
Confused how to shift to neutral without "switching on" the car.
Any insights ?
What is the water wadding capacity of the hycross? With water logging being the norm during monsoons should we avoid going through water logged areas because of the battery. Something we did not think much with normal ice engines

Re: Toyota Innova Hycross Review

It pleases me to share with you all that after a frustrating wait of 8 months, a car has finally been allotted to me. For members who have taken delivery, I just wanted to check if we are obligated to pay the depot charges of Rs 14,800 being levied by the dealer. Most dealers of other car brands typically waive off these charges on escalation to the manufacturer but I have no prior experience with Toyota. Look forward to your inputs and thank you in advance.

4 Months passed and this car never fails to impress me!

The only downside being the stock speakers which came with the vehicle.
To improve the sound quality:
1) I got the damping done for all 4 doors, boot and bonnet.
2) Replaced the speakers with morel maximo components in the front and morel maximo coaxials at the rear. The Sound quality has become better than what comes with the ZX model. Also, the car has become even more silent inside.
The Stock Music system/ screen is untouched. Only speakers upgraded and damping added to this car. No wiring cut, no subwoofer addition, no amplifier added. Still the sound has improved 3 folds!
Got this work done from Madaan Radios Faridabad and they have done a great job!

I am still searching for compatible good quality side steps, boot mat and wheel cladding for my Hycross. If anyone has any recommendations in NCR, please share !

How much did the damping and the speakers cost you?

Not worried about Toyota saying it’s warranty is not good?

He did mention that necessary detail here:-

Since there is no wiring cutting involved, the warranty is intact. Even if we did so, while most manufacturers have the authority to void the warranty, they simply choose not to for basic mods. Now, that doesn't apply at all when cutting wires to add extra auxiliary accessories.

Thanks for sharing the details regarding Wheel Arch cladding.

When I first reached out to them they mentioned ₹6000 plus shipping extra. After few days when I asked, they mentioned ₹9000 (inclusive of shipping) and the reason for price hike is due to increased demand and low stock.

I will wait till the price stablizes.

I am assuming this is a renamed 'handling charges'.
They should not be charging you the same, do raise this to Toyota.

You can check the below thread for discussion related on the same (Delhi Transport Dept tells Dealers to stop "Handling Charges" SCAM. EDIT: Telangana and Kerala too).

Not normal. I didn't pay a single paisa extra over the booking amount before the PDI. I booked on first day of bookings opening and got my ZX(O) by mid april. I only paid the exact amount mentioned in their price list + the accessories that I chose. There was no handling/depot charges at all nor did they even ask. Maybe things are different in Kerala or maybe Nippon Toyota was just more professional.

Complete damping of doors, boot and the bonnet and the speaker upgrade costed me 35k only. The doors are much heavier and now the thud has also improved as well. The car is super silent inside and speakers output is awesome.

Warranty is not void as no wire cut has been done. This is normal to change the company fitted speaker. The stock speakers which Toyota is providing; weighs less than 100 grams Forget about getting a nice quality sound out of them.

I also own an Elite i20, the output from stock speakers provided by Hyundai is awesome and I have not upgraded the system at all. However the stock speakers in Fortuner and Innova are terrible.

I am super satisfied with this basic upgrade which is much necessary!

I had to send an email to Toyota to get this amount waived off. It took a couple of weeks but they waived it off.

Doesn't the bonnet already has some damping materials used? I see a black material on VX variant under the bonnet.

Can speaker upgrade alone increase audio quality or damping is a must?

Please do post the sound quality difference in YouTube whenever you get a chance.

Damping is first and the foremost thing we need to do for such huge cars. Actually, the doors are flimsy and the bonnet is hollow. The black colored covering inside the bonnet (provided by company) is not damping. Damping is attached to the skin of the metal sheet to give it strength and sound deadening. Once that is done, then the black part inside the bonnet is re-attached.

I have also never got damping done in the past.

The companies like Merc and BMW add damping to their respective sheets during production only. Toyota has yet not started doing this practice.

It was my first car where I felt the need of sound damping due to its sheer size. The hollowness of sheet metal throughout the car is gone.

What's not required is damping of the roof and damping of the floor which people are doing as per youtube videos.

But in real sense, the doors, bonnet and boot of Hycross required this damping to remove the hollowness of the sheet metal and to improve the effectiveness of the sound system overall. The car gets cut from the outside world and there is pin drop silence inside.

Also when the engine is revved hard, the sound which enters the cabin is bare-minimum now.

To all members who have replied, thank you for your insights, I really appreciate your help. In the world we live in where people are always trying to make quick buck at the cost of uninformed customers, having access to a platform like TeamBHP with it’s enthusiastic community of members is a real boon. I have followed suit and sent an email to Toyota requesting them to waive off the charges as per the law of the land. Hopefully my concern will be duly addressed and resolved soon. I will definitely keep everyone posted on the outcome and do my part in helping other members who might still be awaiting their deliveries.
