Traveled Siddapur - Periapattana route in last May and took direct route yesterday enroute Kannur. Direct route is much better even though the last 2km has become bad.

Have anyone travelled a road anywhere, with more speed breakers than the one from Gundalpet to Waynad?
To save wild life? I doubt if that is the true intention behind making that beautiful road such a discouraging road to ride! And the statistics of animal deaths published against shutting off that road at dark hours don't sound sensible either.
Well they have managed to ruin the smooth ride through the jungle.

Traveled to Kannur on 26th and back on 28th this month, took the direct root... Hunsur-Gonikoppal. The road condition is almost the same as what I saw in May, though deteriorated a little bit by the rain and mud. I saw a road roller working on this muddy stretch trying to make the road surface even.
Any vehicle can cover this stretch with a little bit of patience.

Thanks a lot for the pics, ajishanand. I had been avoiding this stretch for a long time. Now that it is in a better condition, I can try this route for my next trip during the 14th Aug weekend.

Came to Payyanur today.
Good news : The route via KRS is open
Bad news : There is not much progress in the work just after the KRS turn off. A few meters have a new concrete layer remaining portions are in the same old style but a little better

In the Hunsur - Gonikkoppal route the last 4kms of the bad road stretch will test all suspension bolts of your car. But nothing to worry so far as there is no big potholes, any car can easily negotiate this

Apart from this there no change in the condition

Planning to drive this month end ,will take Srirangapatna-yelwala, and Hunsur-Gonikoppal route.

I reached Bangalore yesterday night. Seems like they have again levelled few sections using a road roller in the Anechowkoor bad stretch and this time I was able to drive faster. Last time, we had to deviate from the road due to the culverts construction and now its completed and now vehicles are allowed.

I enquired with the check post guards about the condition of Anechowkoor-Periyapatna road and they said the direct road is better.

Also tried the KRS road and its the same as earlier. Only first half section of the road is repaired near the Belagula railway station, which was closed for sometime. This entire stretch is manageable.

Planning to go/drive to Kannur next Friday (29th Aug). After hearing about the horror stories happened on Independence day, thinking of taking Kanakapura-Malavalli-Bannur-Mysore route. More over, my recent drive to Calicut (by Kanakapura route) gives me lot of confidence on the road conditions. Based on my experience, this route is quite good during early hours, but becomes very chaotic by evening.

I took this route on 15th Morning. Started from Bangalore at 5:30 and reached Mysore by 8. Did not face any major jams.
On the way back I avoided driving on Sunday and started on Monday morning, covering Thalassery - Bangalore in about 6 hrs.
I think the key is to start early to avoid the traffic.

Agree... Other reason for me getting tempted with Kanakapura-Malavalli route is because I had travelled that way very recently. Till Malavalli. you can easily maintain higher cruising speeds compared to Mysore road(depending on your comfort levels). Again I am starting from Electronic city.. Quite bored with Mysore road.

I would really appreciate if some of the gurus on this thread put up a Google maps route that they recently used - possible for the direct route.

It should help a lot of others on here as well.
