Its still worth taking the BG road detour to go to Hosur road. A small to pay for the big savings you get to bypass the city.

Mumbai - Bangalore - planning travel time & stay

Plan to hit the road for Mumbai - Guruvayoor with family by Maruti - Dzire VDi. I have done this route few years back (guess it was early 2007). That time we started from Mumbai @ 3pm in the evening and halted @ Kolhapur. Then Kolhapur - Bangalore (stretch near Rannibennur was bad then) & missed getting on to NICE road then. So stayed @ Blr & started early next morning (with directioning in Bangalore took an hour to land up on Hosur road). Reached Guruvayoor for a late lunch.
Would like to take the benefit of the expressway but time is off essence. As I drive with family I don't do night driving. Like to start early - 5am & wind down by 7.30 / 8pm.
Would appreciate suggestion based on present road conditions for route to take from Mumbai - Guruvayoor (via Mysore) with hopefully just 1 nite stop at a decent hotel. Also do suggest stay options and reliable fuel & food stops (we are foodies who enjoy good food with a tilt for non veg). Any Ginger Hotels on this route ?

Cheers ! & thank you in anticipation

Then you need not come all the way till Bangalore. You can take off from NH4 at Chitradurga. The road would:

Chitradurga-Channagiri-Bhadra-Kadur-Chimagulur-Hassan-Holenarsipur-Mysore and the onwards to Guruvayur via Nanjangus-BandipurGudalur-Nilambur - Perinthalmanna-Pattambi-Kunnamkulam-Guruvayur.

You should be able to break in Hassan.

Why don't you take NH 17, which is shorter and better? From Mumbai to Guruvayoor, you do not have to come via Bangalore, unless you wish to.

If you wish to come via NH 4, the stretch from Haveri to Chitradurga [125 km] on NH 4 is horrible, to say the least. Two back-breaking railway level crossings, big, crude speed-breakers/humps, driving through Ranebennur town, no signages, no info, the list goes on and on. Drive carefully.

Ginger Hotels are located at Pune, Bangalore and Mysore. Visit www.gingerhotels.com for details. In Mysore, you can also stay at Hotel Dasaprakash. Details at Mysore DasaPrakasha Group

@pamymenon I also feel this may not be the right thread to discuss the Bombay Guruvayur thread. There are other parallel threads which are live and which you should be able to use.

Have they completed the Gotigere stretch or what? (I know it has not been done; so why this increase?)

I guess they see that in spite of not completing this stretch, lots of folks are using the NICE and hence the increase (may be! This is just my guess).

I believe that the State govt has to agree first in increasing the toll - surprising that they agreed.

The toll is already high in the first place.

Just took the NICE road from kengeri to bannerghatta. It costs 39/- one way for a 14 km journey. That is very expensive. If you take the krishnagiri highway of any of the other new 4 track roads, they are not half as expensive.
Why should it cost so much to use a 14km stretch of highway?

Toll Increase

Just after Bangalore got a new mayor, effective from 24th April,2010 midnight NICE has given a gift by increasing the Toll by 30%. It seems like Kheni is assuming the powers of a dictator.

Still not completed but they have done some patch work which makes it drivable. It was scary with dust and huge pothholes and some offroad stretches few months back when we drove from Ranganaithittu.
