Probably the only movie whose name and rating are same...2.0
VFX and VFX-nothing else. Average story and boring screenplay..In fact I actually slept for couple of minutes or so when the fight scene between two guys wrapped in mobiles started.
The movie with the ageing actor masked in bricklayers of makeup and VFX on top of it will make money no doubt with his fans.
Another negative for me is showing a person fighting in vain for a cause as the bad guy and the person stopping him as a hero!!!

Re: The Regional movies thread!

Huge hype for Mohanlal's big budget move 'Odiyan' (Malayalam) releasing tomorrow. Seeing a huge release in Bangalore also including some 6am shows that are already sold out. Decent number of shows for even the dubbed Telugu version.

Wondering whether to book tickets or wait for the initial reviews. Hugely hyped movies are always risky

There is absolutely no point in booking FDFS type shows for Mammootty/Mohanlal movies. The so-called "fans" will make the in-cinema experience a disaster. Best would be to wait for a few days while these types are all done with the movie.

Re: The Regional movies thread!

We booked our tickets for Odiyan a month back There's only one show here, so no option of waiting. And yes! we plan to make some noise in the theatre.

Read that it is all exaggeration by the director. Not sure where the truth is.

(Sorry, in Malayalam)

Mohanlal movies that have come with unbelievable hype have rarely met expectations. With the director going all out with such numbers, wondering if he is not confident about the product.

No wonder. The director's ad agency name itself is PUSH communication

Initial indications are that you are correct. Looks like a flop

Unfortunately I was right. Pretty disappointing considering the hype that was generated. If it was a movie that came with no hype, I guess it would have been just about acceptable.

Looks like the director and scriptwriter had a one liner about the shape shifting legend of Odiyan but had no clue how to make a story out of it. So wrapped it up in a stale, seen 100 times package and hyped the hell out of it. Poorly written edited and directed in my opinion. Stunts mostly in the dark and not very clear.

Good acting from Mohanlal, Manju Warrier and Prakash Raj, but nothing that we have not seen before. The trimmed down Lalettan was the only unique thing. But you wonder if it was worth all the effort he put in

Another issue was the confusion on the time periods in the story. Something way off about it.

Re: The Regional movies thread!

Odiyan should have been directed by the guy who edited this. Super hilarious

For a country that is so much into storytelling for centuries its surprising that we are not able to put together a proper folklore movie. Not even one in Malayalam - except perhaps the folklore-modern yesteryear classic My dear Kuttichathan. Tragic!

I think you are being too harsh. We've had, apart from the one you mention, Hariharan's Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha, AJayan's Perumthachan, Bharathan's Vaishali and even the recent Kayamkulam Kochunni that were received very well. And perhaps Pazhassi Raja, Urumi and probably others - not as many as we'd like, but not rare either.

Let us place the blame for Odiyan where it belongs to.

Watched Odiyan - dosed off for a couple of minutes and kept looking at my mobile clock waiting for the climax which was predictable.
Minus 2 songs and 2 fights, it would have been a much better watch. Peter's stunts are getting boring. The actors did a good job, worth a watch to get to know an odiyan.
