UPDATE:
fixed the wiring. Replaced Flywheel and clutch-pressure plates. Service done. Now the car is running smooth. And it is gem to drive!
Just one thing bothering me is that there is very slight rattling noise which comes sometimes when I apply throttle very gently between 1200-2000RPM. This most likely is from turbo spooling up slowly.
But I am aware that this car is prone to timing kit failures, so any advice on that front>

Rattling on the TSI may not be good. Next time you try, can you listen closely on where the rattle is from? Is it from the bottom of the engine block or the timing cover area. Also, place your hands on the timing cover while revving to 1.5 - 2k and see if you feel any vibrations.

Do you have VCDS?

I also drive a 2009 TSi Laura. 57000km done. Clutch is still going strong. Strange that yours failed at 55000km considering it's genuine 55000km as you say. Of course, this depends upon the driver but if the previous owner was such a driver, then I don't what else will be on it's way out.

Did you do the clutch/pressure plates and flywheel replacement at Skoda? What was the cost?

Yes. That's a low mileage for clutch fail. No I didn't do it at skoda ASC. They were not very supportive. I sourced the OEM flywheel, and plates by Luk. Clutch is fine now. But the rattle has increased. So I have sourced the updated tensioner and timing kit. Might also open up head and check valves and tappets.

The flywheel+clutch plate+ pressure plate combo was about 26k.
Well LUK is the vendor for VW. We got it directly from them. I make damper rods for Gabriel and endurance. So had some contacts.
The timing chain tensioner of latest revision is 4.5k sourced from GT tuners

Any idea what this noise could be? It happened today after a longish somewhat spirited drive and was gone when I took the car out again in the evening. The sound was when I depressed and released the pedal.

Brake pad thickness seems okay.

Well I guess this is sarcastic

Sourcing some parts is easier. But electronic stuff is the main issue.
After tensioner replacement, there is a bit of vibration in car at idle. Will check if its a balancing shafts issue or something else. Been home since a month due to an injury. So this will have to wait.

New owner of a pre worshipped 2009 1.8 TSi. Purchased the car around a month back from another BHPian. Have driven it over 2300 kms after the purchase, the current mileage being 35280 kms.
There was a noise coming from the steering when turning the car at low speeds. This was identified prior to the purchase as well, without coming to a proper diagnosis.

Recently took it to a FNG for checking out the suspension and rack. Turns out the front suspension / strut assembly is wrecked on the left side, with almost nil damping capability or in general speak, the piston rod doesn't return to Zero after compression. The right side seems to be performing okay though.

I suspect this has been the condition for quite sometime, which in turn has affected, the steering rack, thereby leading to the noise on turning of the wheel. Attaching a picture below for the current condition


My query (list of) now is -
1. What is the sizing of the stock strut assembly / shock absorber cylinder? (as I am unable to read the details on the sticker which seems to be worn out with age)
2. Part number for the same would be very helpful.
3. Which company is the OEM supplier for this part?
4. How much would a B6 coilover cost, and would it be recommended since I want to maintain a stock setup. Also, can I retain the stock springs, with a B6 coilover setup.
5. Any recommendations for a good mechanic who can do rack servicing? Would it be safe to let someone work on the steering rack, or should I let it be as it is? A few places have advised leaving it as it is, till I found the place who diagnosed it as a suspension issue.
6. There are part suppliers like Boodmo, sparesncare etc. Has anyone used their service? Any good / bad reviews?
7. Going over the multiple threads on the forum regarding the TSi, I am unable to settle on a good oil for mainly long distance driving. Currently, Shell Helix Ultra 5w40 is being used as per the last service 4000 kms back. I have had to top it up once after the purchase, but I think i underestimated the oil level in the dip stick. Some dealers are recommending Liqui Moly Top tec, (which is not a fully synthetic oil however). Im happy with the current oil, but since it doesn't meet the exact manual specification, should I change over to something else? And probably a good recommendation.
8. Do I need to change the transmission oil, since it has been almost a decade, but Skoda apparently says its a lifetime oil and doesn't require changing. Also, what would be a good recommendation of transmission oil for the car?
9. I don't find much reviews for code6 on the forum, but verbally I've got a lot of recommendation for it. Other than remaps, will they help to maintain a stock car? and carry out parts replacements and services like the ones I've mentioned above?
10. Last but not least, what is the current interval of oil changes, filter replacements, that everyone is following for this engine? Briskoda has guides, but they date back to 2011-2014. Are they still recommended as of today?

I don't have answers to all your queries but find below answers to some points:

6. I have used Boodmo but the pricing is same as OEM so it would be better to get it from aftermarket
7. Go with Liqui Moly Top Tec it meets specification and IMO it is better than Shell Helix (I use it)
8. Manual mentions that transmission oil should be changed every 60k kms so for peace of mind i would change it.
10. Service interval should be 15k kms including Engine oil, air filter and oil filter

Hi.

I have a Skoda Laura 1.8TSI and I have a very peculiar problem.

When driving, my car makes a very peculiar sound between 900rpm and 1100rpm. In all the gears, even reverse!

I took the car to a know Skoda mechanic in Santacruz, Mumbai only to find out that the tensioner (the mechanic said V tensioner) on the lower part of the engine is moving. A lot.
If we accelerate smoothly, then it's not a problem. But under jerky throttle, the tensioner was moving and the car was making a certain noise I am sure the car never made.
I used to think that the knocking sound was because I had a weak ignition coil (coil pack has been ordered)


We then went for a drive again and he said that this tensioner was making that sound under load and I shouldnt drive the car in low revs.

I am posting a picture of the tensioner he was talking about which is moving.
A friend told me that this tensioner is supposed to move and I shouldn't worry. But what about the sound?

The ignition coil has given up on my Laura TSI, infact the first one on the LHS just melted off & the car wouldn't start now, it's cranking though.
Does anyone know a reliable place when I can get it online/offline?
I don't want to get ripped off by Skoda Service. Am also hoping it's a straight forward replacement.
I'm open to getting the upgraded pack as well.
