Mine is Sai Service J.M. Road.

Cost of oil: Rs. 840/- (approx)
Cost of oil filter: Rs. 350/- (approx)

Rest all was taxes.

The total cost came at 750/-, which included oil and a bottle of distilled water.

Their service booklet does not mention a change of oil filter but as a proactive car maintainer, I insisted that he change the oil filter. In the newer days of engine running in, fine metal particles are collected in the oil filter and it is recommended that it is changed along with the oil.

An oil and a filter change is absolutely essential according to me for the first service especially for the diesel.

BTW: My black ZDi is scheduled to be delivered tuesday. Unfortunately, I will be in Bongland getting married on the 27th. So delivery will only be on the 3rd. Buggers are charging me Rs 5340 as Depot charges for keeping the car till the 2nd. PDI due on Sunday.

OTR at Navi Mumbai: Rs 7,39,936. (Excluding depot charges)

I've said this before and I'll say it again. If the government applies their taxes on diesel cars, I'll soon be able to sell my car for the price I bought it for (If not more).

The prices for the Swift have touched unacceptable levels. Figo is the way to go for the buyer.

I checked out his ZDi side by side with my older ZXi and here are my observations :
- Hugely improved materials and interior "feel". The plastics feel 1 grade higher. Or even more than my car.
- Better perceived quality of construction. Example, the internal door latches, pure plastic on the older car, nicely chromed on the new one.
- Similar front seats as the older car. Read that as very comfortable. Both of us sport similar Autoform art leather.
- Better sounding stock audio of the newer car. Almost in the Figo league now. The earlier stock system sounds much flatter in comparison.

3050 is the charge for 1st service which includes Synthetic oil. if you inform them to use mineral the the total cost would be 750 Rs. Thats what was charged for mine during 1st free service.

Wow 7.14L for a VDi barren of so many features.

For lesser than 7L you can get the upgraded Figo Titanium.

Figo top end Titanium is now real VFM. They have added, steering rake adjust, USB port, alloys and front foglamps.

It already had bluetooth, ABS, airbags, electric mirrors, distance to empty, rear washer, rear defogger and even more features.

I think even the Renault Pulse and i20 are better options than the Swift.

Generally a better idea if change to synthetic is around the 10K kms mark. An engine ideally needs to bed in properly during the running-in stage, post which moving over to synthetic is nicely complimentary.

Excatly. This was the argument I had with SA when he said its recommended to have Synthetic. I went for normal oil even though he did not like my decision.

Ok Here is a query. Synthetic oil costs 3000 rs and can be used for 15K kms.
A normal oil costs 7-800rs and can be used till 10K kms(as per SA). What If i change the oil every 5K (3 times in 15K kms) instead of synthetic oil (for the price sake). Does this make sense? Over all money spent on oil in 15K kms will be the same.

Do this ONLY if you want to match the cost savings to the cost of synthetic. The up side is your car will be smoother. Ideally you need to change the engine oil only around 10K kms, but a change at 5K kms, your car is gonna smile bigger!

Gone are the days when free service used to be absolutely free.
Few years back our 800 had never been part of service where money was spent on it.
Everything (regular checkups) including the oil change was free of cost.
Even the dealer arranged free service camps and the service was never so cheap

Changing oil earlier than recommended goes nicely towards the health of the engine. However, the question now arises of sustainability of a frequent oil change. If cost is not a concern, than go for it!
