Deepak, we use a dashcam for our protection. It may be used as proof of innocence in case of an accident or any mishap.

Cheers

Thanks Cyborg, my bad!! Since some cams offered parking mode, I assumed anti theft is also one of the features. Got it now that it's mainly to catch miscreants bumping into your parked car

Friends, Wanted to purchase a new dash cam for my Zest. Would prefer something which is not very complicated to install & operate.
Kindly suggest some good options.

As seen in your shared picture, the charging cable for dash cam is a direct 12V one. Can it also be charged via a USB?
I am asking since Linea has only 1 12V socket. I won't be able to use that if I will plug dash cam onto it.
Wouldn't using a dual USB charger help? One USB can be used for the dashcam, & the other for the regular charging duties.

I am using a dual usb one. That's why the question about whether the dashcam charging cable supports usb or is it only 12V?

Hello Everyone,
Has anybody used this DDPAI dashcam? If so, could you please share your experience?

I am using a dual USB adapter for my two (front and rear) dashcams. This adapter came with my Viofo A119 dashcam. Earlier when I had only front dashcam, I used to charge mobile using the second USB port. Now I use second 12V socket for mobile charging as first one is used for two dashcams.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Reposting my query in this thread:-

Hello everyone,
I need help in deciding a reverse parking camera and in its installation on my Tata Harrier. I have selected 70mai 9.35" rearview mirror dash cam with reverse parking function. It serves both the purpose of a reverse camera and a dash camera. Wide-screen is welcome, there are many reviews available online but could not find a long term review.
Link to the product.

My queries are:-
1. If anyone has used it could provide me with real-life feedback.

2. Installing a rear parking camera requires tapping a cable in a revers lamp socket. Tata showroom people have mentioned that doing so will void the warranty of the car. Is that the case with installing a third-party reverse camera?

3. If the answer to query number 2 is yes, then I will install it as a passive device with revers view on will though buttons provided on the display mirror. Will screwing a camera on the tailgate will void my warranty?

Sorry for asking such trivial questions. I have been a victim of major warranty claims. Had I not had the warranty intact, I would have to pay a lot of money from my pocket.

I have fixed reverse parking camera on my Tata Tigor through Tata Dealer's accessory shop. They fitted a Chinese product (Genome- iCam) which comes with front and rear recording with reverse parking.

Since the camera was fixed by the dealer themselves there was no talk about warranty problems. When you do it from outside accessory shops, then they will talk about the warranty problems.

Check with your dealer if they have a reverse parking camera in their accessory department?

I have discussed this issue with Tata service and accessories team directly. They have informed me that warranty will expire if I install this product (even when it is installed as a passive accessory).
Tata genuine accessory rearview camera is for Rs 16,000. I find it very costly compared to the products presently available in the market. Dealers in Gurgaon are only offering genuine accessories.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

I got this model home and then returned it because the holding IRVM sags under its weight. I'm looking for a newer model with lower weight, as this is indeed snazzy. Problem with screwing a camera outside is that thieves just tug and make away with this unit (as my friend found out). There is a unit which you can fix to the rear glass itself from inside. The upcoming 4K model from mai has this (Uses sticky tape, try that)

I think they (the dealer) just talking something which may not be right. As explained, if another dealer can fit an aftermarket product that too a Chinese one from their accessory department without any warranty breach, then how come your dealer is talking about warranty breach etc.?

If you have only one dealer in your place, then you have no other alternative than agreeing to them as in the end you have to go to them for service related works.

Why don't you just write to Tata Motors Customer care giving your intention to fix a rearview camera? (Just a try)

When I wanted to fit a touchscreen on my Tata Tigor XZA, first I asked my dealer's accessory department who simply said it is not possible. Again, after a couple of months repeated my request and I got same answer. Then I wrote to Tata Motors with a copy to the dealer. I got a negative reply, but again I wrote to them and asked them if they cannot do then let them permit me to fix a good touchscreen from outside and after this email, they (Tata motors regional officer) called me and gave me a contact in my dealer's office.

Eventually, I fitted a Blaupunkt Android HU on my car. But I had to purchase/ install the product through my dealer only and nothing happened to my warranty services.

I did drop a mail to Tata asking about my query. They connected me to the NCR regional manager. The official word from Tata was that warranty will void if I install a rear camera.
I am now not pushing this issue anymore. But with this, all my plans of installing a high-end music system will become a dream.
As far as a dashcam is concerned, I might go with Blaupunkt dashcam which is officially available from Tata. Though it is an outdated model but will solve the purpose.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

So, it seems that the local dealer is the one controlling things. Here, in this case your dealer seems not willing to cooperate whereas in my case my dealer has no objection in fixing a reverse camera as they are the one selling those products. So no warranty issues..

Make sure to caution your friends or relatives who plans to buy a Tata car in the future let them make a deal with dealer as regards to accessory fitments and warranty related issues, prior finalising the deal.

Blaupunkt Dashcam - seems the product doesn't have Wifi feature which means you have to keep removing the SD card in case you want to view any of the recordings.?

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

I have been searching for a good Dashcam (to replace my existing Mirror Dashcam) and seen a couple of brands asunder:

- 70mai

- DDPAI Mola Z5

- JVC GC-DRE10

- Transcend DrivePro 32GB 110 (bit expensive)

Now, another thing is that I already have a wiring done from cigarette lighter to the IRVM (wiring done to fix my existing iCam mirror Dashcam), so I can use this same wiring provided the charger cable pin will fit into the new Dashcam. Incase the pin hole sizes are different in above models, then will have a problem of using the old wiring?

Suggestions are welcome!
