Thanks determinus, Navin anD Sam.

Sam again I understand no brand is better than the other. But everyone out here tell me which one of the subs you heard sounded better compared to other subs in the market.

How much does the Perfect cost and which is the best amp that can I drive it? Saam any chance to get it from CATS in Chennai?

2 will run off a 601.1 yes. But a 1201.1 would really really drive them. The P1220E are based on the JBL differential drive motor structure, quite close in construction to the GTi competition series and really do feature loooong excursions and the 1201.1 has the juice to make them bounce.

But yes, a 601.1 will drive them well. What kind of enclosure do you intend to have?

I cannot remember what it costs right now. Too much wine I guess. But yes, You may order them from sridhar, they aren't available off the shelf in Chennai.

i was talking to this guy today evening & he told me if i run 2 of these with a 1201.1, i have a good chance of blowing the subs (overpowered)
& yes it will most likely be a sealed enclosure

The markII and the 1222 are american innovations (some patent thing, I cannot explain it here)

So the valid models for us are the P1220E (E for europe, asia follows europe) and the GTO1201.1

Putting high excursion woofers in sealed boxes means you need more juice. 1220E in a vented box are ok with a 601.1, not in sealed boxes. In sealed you must go for 1201.1

And yes that is a lethal combination. Good luck with your lancer, do let us know how it goes.

Just a question, again, may be dehaati, but whatthefly...

Why can't one install a 5.1 home theatre speaker system into the car?

I remember seeing something from Telome installed in a Toyota Innova at the Taj Land's End exhibition (the same one where the Yeti displayed his Cadddy for the first time).

Note I'm talking only about the speakers, not the entire DVD / Amp / controllers / rotating fans / shoe polishers.

Approved by the guru himself
this 'should' be the final setup in a months time (hopefully my guy gives me a good price)
By the way, these Subs are SVC 4ohms right ??
Also, how much cu.ft. should we give them?

elf, it,s there somewher on this thread itself. the answer to your question.

Simply put the speakers designed for home are not suitable for car use as the listening environment is different smaller space and restrictions to speakers spaces.

Also car speakers are better build to handle the dust and shocks compared to home audio.

The listening environment is the main difference. metal closed small enclosure compared to the large area of a home environment.

a) Too much power will not fry a woofer UNLESS you are totally insensitive to sistortion. Woofers wil complain a lot before being fried.

b) MOST woofers are NOT limited by their THERMAL ratings. Those POWER ratings are usually THERMAL. MOST woofer are rated by their physical limits (EXCURSION). Also MOST woofers with long excursions are usually LESS sensitive than woofers with LESS excursion so what you really have to do is
find out how loud do you want to go at particular frequencies (say 100Hz, 50Hz, 30hz) then decide which woofer can do this best. For example: you can either use a 98db woofer with 10W to produce 108db or a 88db woofer with 100W do to do the same. Now this is a SIMPLISCTIC answer. A detailed answer can be provided but that would be in as poor taste as Elf's Jokes! :-) Sorry Elf, I'm just kidding).

Elf, do you really want a 5.1 in your car? Think about it. You are driving down the Bombay-Pune highway at 120kmph and you hear a real live helicopter coming in from behind or a T-Rex chasing you. I can imagine installing 5.1 in a chauffer driven Tempo Traveller but in a regular sedan I see no SANE reason - not that this should stop some from trying. 5.1, done properly, is meant to imerse you in another envrioment be it T2 or Jurrasic Park not something I'd recommend in a moving car in traffic.

Rev, I use my O2 XDAIIi occasionally in the car. Mine doesn't have a 3.5mm jack, so I used an adapter from PPC Techs to use a 3.5mm jack to RCA cord (EP to RCA cord) from MX. The cable is really good, and ran to 250/- if I remember right. Sound quality is good, no issues there.

I'm not sure of the exact specs of a 6850, but this is just like any other aux-in cord. I think the 6850 has an aux-in stereo socket on the lower part of the front panel, right? If so, just use any good EP to EP (3.5mm stereo jack to 3.5mm stereo jack) cable. This will be available at any electronics supplies shop.

MX makes a cable that should work.

I wasn't talking about pure 5.1 sound - just using the speakers, the sub & their inbuilt crossover installed in a car for reasons of abject penury - some of these home (albeit crappy sounding) systems come for about 3 grand. Not that I want to install it in the Lancer (lovely sound there, thanks Sam), but maybe in another car (Wifey's Alto...? oops! just lost my cojones) just for the heck of it.

Also, I don't think immersion in another environment is a valid argument against 5.1. That comes irrespective of whether it's 5.1 or plain old stereo - think of the little boys in their hatchbacks pumping out 18 billion watts of sound from 140 amps, 6000 subs & 45 head units. Forget a silly old T-Rex, methinks these monkeys wouldn't be able to hear a squadron of MIG-29s if it were on their behinds.

Oops, that's another poor joke!
