I do not watch TV and my wife only wants, Zee, Colors, StarPlus, Aastha & Sanskriti channels.
Hathway cable guy has increased the rate to Rs300 from this month onwards and I see no reason to pay this much for just 5-6 channels.

My TV is wifi enabled. Is there any option to view these channels live using net?

Regards,
Videocon D2h offers such a facility. One of my connection is only a-la carte.

Would anyone have an update on this?
Never heard of such a thing. Even in the developed markets like US, they still have install dish. The only way to do this is by using 4G, maybe, but don't think the connection would be very reliable then.

Are you not in Parent Child connection when possessing more than one STB?
How much is this only a-la carte box costing you monthly?

Well, my two connections are at two different locations.

The a-la carte has bare minimum required channels. It costs Rs. 165. The idea was to keep it to minimum amount allowed and that is the minimum required by D2h.

i don't know if this has been asked before but, can one transfer the recordings on Airtel Digital TV to a flash or hard drive? It has a USB port on the back so it must be of some use.
Anyone who knows the process, if it's possible?

These recordings are encrypted and cannot be transferred to or watched on any other media.

Re: Direct-To-Home television in India. Update DTH HD announced

Tata sky launches 4K UHD STB. Wondering if they have enough content. They hardly have ~22 HD channels currently. Haven't mentioned anything about the available 4k channels.

Tata Sky 4K offers Ultra High Definition picture quality and Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 surround sound. 4K at 8.3 Megapixels (3840×2160) has approximately four times the pixels as that of 2K (1920×1080) the current HD standard

The USB port for the STB is given for installing the firmware updates for the box AFAIK.

Can anyone with Dish TV confirm that Nick Jr is now added back and available at least as Al-a-Carte?

Yes, but I heard somewhere that you can transfer the recording to your flash drive by activating a software feature which would cost 500 bucks. I didn't find anything related to it on the Airtel website.
Would have to confirm it from customer care.

There are no 4K channels in India and only a handful abroad. Most channels don't even have the equipment for 1080p content. Only the FIFA WC final was available in 4K.
This would just give Tata Sky marketing hype by offering "India's 1st UHD set-top box".

Re: Direct-To-Home television in India. Update DTH HD announced

Not sure if this is the right thread.

However, here goes...

What would be the best solution for recording content off a cable tv (which comes with its own set-top box)?

Thanks.

Yes it is. Find out if its in your base pack, if not, you can take it as ala carte.

Thanks. Are you saying that channel 532 (Nick Jr.) has started playing?

I stopped subscription almost a year ago. I can resume, if this channel is coming.

Yes 532 is there, however i think there is some accessory that is required to view it. Best call the service provider and they would be able to check if ur current hardware would support it.

Re: Direct-To-Home television in India. Update DTH HD announced

I'm tired of constant changes in pricing and shuffling of add-ons and packages by Videocon D2H. Even the base package is now Rs.190 and doesn't include a lot of FTA channels (ex: 9XM, B4U Movies are free but paid channels on Videocon). I'm willing to go all off and stick with free to air satellite channels (DD Direct Plus?)

Is it possible to convert my existing VidD2H STB + Dish to deal with FTA channels? Any information or guidance would be highly appreciated.

Re: Direct-To-Home television in India. Update DTH HD announced

Till date has been a frustrating experience with Videocon STB. Many a times the STB simply hangs up. No voice, no picture. You then have to reset the STB and everything becomes normal. Its become like a daily ritual to reset the STB once a day atleast. A complaint later, the technician drops in and checks the STB, finds no fault. Even the software is the latest one. Luckily was able to demonstrate to him the STB hanging feature but he had no clue to it. Surprisingly the complaint no has been closed conveniently without even informing me. What could be the reason for STB behaviour?

One more issue which I had was the stiff remote control buttons. One hard push and 3-4 channels were getting skipped and with soft push the channels never changed. Got the remote replaced with a RF tagged remote but not without the usual drama with Videocon. Overall not at all happy with the Videcon experience. Pity I cannot afford to change it either since its the lowest priced amongst the lot and offers the highest no of HD channels.
