For Mixie - Panasonic, and from a local store.

We had a Prestige, but the part of the base which locks with the base unit kept getting wearing out so often that I got tired replacing it. So though the motor was good, we ended up replacing it.

On another note, we are looking for jars for the Wonderchef Nutriblend. The website says this is out of stock - for quite some time now. Any idea where can we get these ? Here again, the appliance shop repair person says that some part is loose in the base of the jar, and parts not available,

Always look into your own city market. There must be one or two big electrical market in your city. Amazon is nothing compared to those market. If no one in the market has that specific part someone there will show you the way to get it.

For 750 watt heavy mixer grinder Sujata and Preethi are the best. They are a bit costly, Preethi more than Sujata. If not then you can not go wrong with Usha Mixer grinder. We have a 30 year old Usha MMJ 550 watt and it is still working like before with servicing every 3-4 years. Bajaj makes useless mixers. Their stainless steel quality is pathetic. Chutney jar developed a hole within 3 months and that too in a costly 650 watt Treo model. All 3 jars developed play in their blades and I had to replace them all. The speed rotor went kaput in 2nd year and had to be replaced. We have been using different USHA appliances for long and it has never faltered.

Always buy from shops as they offer better price and satisfaction as you can see and feel the product. Some models are shop exclusives which you won't find online plus you will have a nice outing.

Any feedback on Maharaja Whiteline Mixer Grinders in terms of long term durability?

The mixer is for my parents - took them to a nearby store today and my father checked the blades in the jars and liked the Maharaja one as compared to Philips and even the Preethi one.

Preeti is best mixi i have used. Durability of motor and Jar quality is one of the best for Preeti.

Try an image search on Google. Once you find one that matches your model, download the pic and details to your phone and take it to your local market (I guess in Chennai that would be around Ritchie St./Parrys), you are certain to find someone who will point you in the right direction.
Also, you've not posted a pic on this forum (but I guess you are one of the experts on this forum, so don't know who else - may be Diyguy, Aroy , R2D2, or Thad can help - srini1785 has already answered).

Did you manage to fix your burners? I request the electrical gurus to comment, but my guess is that there is no set rating/wattage for these motors - most likely the 750 Watts motor has an inflated rating. Also guessing that the 500W Panasonic is going to perform adequately for most needs.

Another question: Are the Panasonic jars superior? At one time they used to advertise special blades that were supposedly better than ordinary blades. Since the motor on our original Sumeet is going strong, I've been forbidden from buying a replacement, but the jars and blades have been replaced with local ones and I'd love to put on a "jugaad" Panasonic jar on our trusty Sumeet - any ideas?

Maharja is a durable and trusted brand for long and so is Sumeet. I don't think you can go wrong with either one of those. For long term durability, like 10+ years Usha is better. Philips, I believe is not suited for Indian consumers. Their chutney jar blade is fixed at high point which does not help when the quantity is less.

Yes. As mvadg sir pointed out there are many areas in Madras for electrical items - Thambu Chetty Street in Parris Corner. Problem is it is a vast area and you will need more than a day to scour through them.

The earlier Mixer here was Sumeet as well which lasted for 15 years or so.

After my Dad made that comment about the quality of the blades, we came home and saw the advertisement pages for Maharaja...they seem to have lot of focus on the blades - so there must be some truth to what my Dad felt when he checked the different Jars and blades. Preethi and Phillips do not advertise on the Blade Quality but focus on other things...
Maharaja was not even on our shortlist until the visit to the store - so lets see which way it goes.

Store price is almost Rs.1000/- more than Amazon.in and with the Amazon Republic Day Sale coming up soon, I am tempted to order online

Internet has spoiled people. That is not how you search anything in the market. You go to a famous shop or an old shop of the required material, if they don't have it they will guide you to next shop which may have that and they will guide you to next, if they don't have. 5-6 shops and an hour later you will find it or someone who will procure it for you in lieu of some advance payment. Always ask for a receipt when paying in advance.

This you will find quite easily. I think the heating element is known as spiral heating element. It comes in different lengths. I think your heater is 2500W. May cost around rs 1500- rs2000. You can also ask your local plumber and he will get it for a premium.

This may be off topic, but the original "Sumeet" brand no longer exists. Someone else has bought the rights to the brand name and intends to market a completely different product under the same brand name, so we will have to wait and see if the new mixie is as reliable as the original.

Another thing I've noticed about mixies is that the electricals are strong and reliable but the jars are prone to failure in various ways.

I doubt it since there are no grooves for the heating element outside of the ceramic rings. I did find something similar in Amazon but may not be exactly what is needed.

Thinking of the Philips HL7756/00 (Link) - any feedback on this one would be helpful - and open to other recommendations as well.

Both Preethi and Sujata machines are designed for tough grinding for Indian cooking.

I have had Sumeet, Phillips and then Singer. Their grinding is OK, but takes quite some time. In contrast the Preethi grinds every thing effortlessly in less than a minute most of the time. This is due to a very high speed motor.
