Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

After much deliberation I went in and bought S10+. It was a tough choice to make between OP7 and S10+ but the IP68 rating and the wireless charging plus positive feedback from here as well as my BIL and sister made my choice a bit easier.

I have bought the phone in India and will be receiving it from my friend next week when he comes back to UK from vacation (It was costing me almost 10k more here). Will have to wait for a week until I get the phone after which I will post my thoughts about it.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Do get your friend to open the box and use the phone with an Indian sim as the phone is set to active region lock. After 15 or 30 minutes of calling it is unlocked and can be used with any sim. If you know about it, please ignore my post.

Thanks for this information Turbo_Charger. I was not aware of it. I will ask him if he can use it for sometime or have to use it with my Indian sim here and see if that works.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

2 weeks with my Samsung Galaxy A70:

++++
Beautiful 6.7" screen with no physical buttons - really makes a big difference in the real estate.
Tall form factor makes it easy to hold and type one-handed.
Excellent charging - amazing even when compared to OP dash charging!
Included soft rubber clear case pretty good quality
Relatively lag free operation (so far). However, inferior to my OP5
One UI far far better to my Note 3 TW experience
4G download speeds seem to be better than my OP5

-----
Awful implementation of the fingerprint scanner. Laggy and a disgrace. I hope Samsung quickly pushes through updates to improve it. Cannot even compare to my OP5 standalone scanner or even my office colleague's OP6T in-screen one.
Nothing else I can think of right now!

Overall a good deal at 27K I feel. I HAD though of waiting for the OP7 (31K) but went for the larger screen + headphone jack option in the A70

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

The screen of my Redmi 1S cracked. I can make and receive calls, the touch is also working properly.

The phone was bought in Sep. 2014.

Now I thinking to buy a new phone instead of replacing the screen of Redmi 1S as the ear piece is also giving low sound output during calls.

I am having Lenovo K6 Power- 4GB RAM and 32GB Storage with Jio sim.

Which phone should replace the Redmi 1S?

Requirements not in particular order-
1. Budget Rs. 10-11K.
2. Non-Samsung Brand (Has Samsung come out of Bloatware? If yes, then I might consider it).
3. Good Camera.
4. Good Voice Clarity.
5. Loud Speaker Volume should be sufficiently large.
6. Battery Backup should be atleast one day. Maybe 3500-4000mah. Is "mah" alone responsible for battery backup?
7. I would be adding a flip cover to it no matter how sturdy the phone will be (my mistake I did not add cover to Redmi).
8. I am not fan of Latest OS updates. But I would be happy if I get them.
9. Screen should be at least FHD
10. Screen size-5-5.5" depending on screen to body ratio. Body size of Lenovo K6 power would do.

Thank you in advance.

It's A70 right, you have put A50 by oversight in first line.

Just read my review in previous page, I am using A50 and same complaint as yours, fingerprint scanner is awful. I don't even use it now, its that bad. Samsung should really fix this issue.

I am confused between all these brands- Xiaomi, Motorola, Honor, Huawei. I unable to decide which mobile of these brands would be best for me. The specifications are confusing me further.
Also I don't want to cross Rs. 12000/- mark.

I bought first Android in 2012, that was from Motorola. Recently bought Motorola One power, just the third one in all these years.

The previous two Motorola phones were flagships which are still in working condition. Retired them becasue could not find proper replacement batteries for them.

The current One-Power is mid-ranger but still expecting it to keep serving me for another 3-4 years unless something unexpected happens in between.

Just choose carefully, lot of inferior quality rebadged Lenovo devices have also been sold with the Moto branding which ruined goodwill of Motorola. Lenovo is the same Chinese company which spoiled iconic IBM ThinkPad series after acquisition.

Youtube also should be a decent experience because it comes with an OLED screen and stereo speakers.

If you are into reading then getting the larger sized XL variant should be useful if it comes in your budget, or else buy an Amazon Kindle.

And no problem with the card. Just give me a shout if you decide on buying this.
Oxy, thanks. It was your push that egged me on to check with folks I know who might have a hdfc card. Yeah, it's a lot more common than I thought.

Well to summarize, I got the pixel 3a a few days back. Some feedback:

1. Very light. Perfect for one hand use. All getting used to the smaller form factor
2. Fast, no lags observed.
3. Camera is awesome.
4. Battery is acceptable. No where close to the 2 day life I used to get on the z play. Initial charge up took too long, and I was worried about the charge up rates
5. Screen could have been more responsive. I don't know. When I looked up, seems like the pixel 3 stores also suffered from the same issue. Maybe with a software update, we get access to a pointer pressure choice as well.
6. Esim worked out of the box. No problems. Waiting for the Q access in June so dsds becomes accessible.
7. As I write this, I seem to be finding it difficult typing on this screen, even using swift, because of the size. Hope things improve quickly.
8. They phone by itself is very slippery. I am having a tough time finding cases available for this phone online. Rhino shield seems great, the white cover is what I want.

What else? Is it worth the price? It's alright, since it can be used a minimum of 3 years, so amortizing that value over three years makes it seem alright.

All three photos with night sight and absolute darkness.

I will recommend the Honor 8X. It has a couple of great reviews on this thread. The only worrying thing with that is the ongoing Google-Huawei mess but it should not be impacting India from what I gather.

Alternatively, check out the Redmi Note 7S or wait for the Mi A3 Lite.
