re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Among the cost effective range which one will be the best bet? Upper Cap 11K so with the coupon it will come down to 10K

For e.g LG Optimus One (P500), HTC WildFire

No trial and error methods required. Folks using BSNL please refer below links-

1> For device settings-
Device Settings click on zone/state.

'Bsnlnet' APN, will work pan India- 2G/3G.

2> Service Portal- For checking services provisioned on your number. (Not sure if all BSNL circles are covered here)

There are many custom ROM's available for the samsung galaxy series. i'm running a custom ROM gingerbread v2.3.4. on my galaxy ace. I would recommend you to go for the galaxy , there is lot of support for this phone. There are many official and unofficial ROM's for the galaxy series.

From the lot, I would recommend P500. Better screen, backup but with a 3MP cam.

Another interesting model is the Micromax A70, priced at 8000/-
Features 5MP cam, Secondary cam, 3G etc. This looks like a derivative of the Alcatel OT990.

Thanks for the links.

The bsnlnet APN settings works perfectly on my phone. But, when I use bsnllive settings, the applications, say FB, Team-BHP, Twitter etc, does not get network access. So basically, what's the difference b/w bsnlnet, bsnllive etc?

I had tried this website. Though it lists LG Optimus One(P500), the GPRS settings are not available there.

Do you work for BSNL by any chance?

You can select a similar model (android), it works fine. Again- at the risk of generalizing all things BSNL- it usually works, it doesn't work at times.

No, just using their GSM services from Day1 , by virtue of which have some contacts which help when banging my head doesn't work.

Gesture gets recognized anywhere in the screen. I am using swipe down gesture for notifications and swipe up gesture to open phone app
@Clevermax

What i meant was the gesture feature on icons can initiate actions apart from the two gesture you are using above.

Each of the home deck icon can be configured to do to actions based on "Click" or "Swipe". Long pressed say the call button. There it will ask you to set "Change gesture Response". Here you can set any application, shortcut or even preview option.

bsnlnet- pureplay APN for pan India 2G/3G use.
bsnlstream- APN used mainly during any offers, special services, esp streaming events, movies etc.
bsnllive- primarily for services delivered by BSNL through
1> 'BSNL LIVE'-Watch Live Tv, Movies, Videos, download Games, Songs, Ringtones, facebook on your phone..
2> BSNL Value Added Service

In perspective, SGS2 costs 29k, has 10+hrs of claimed talktime. All that we get is 2-3hrs. The HTC EVO 3D even less!!

Phones like these claim 4, you still get 3hrs.

But I see that it has 1450mAh battery, whereas the standard across this range is 1250-1300mAh battery.
You might just as well get surprised by it's battery life.
As with Nokia, even Micromax handset's provide great battery life. My wife uses a MicromaxQ5FB, it's been over a year and it still gives more than 3 days easily after a full charge.
The A70 is a sweet deal but can't comment on it's performance though. Except for the Micromax logo, it looks like a complete Nexus S
