Surprised !! Doesn't this constant price increase affect its customer base(politicians, real estate builder, etc.) even a little bit?

And people were thinking XUV700 and ScorpioN will make Toyota sweat. Not surprised with price hike though. Toyota is increasing prices every quarter since last 2 years. Accounting for increase in road tax (in AP) and ex-showroom, Fortuner 4x4 AT prices have increased by around 6 lakhs since I bought in February 2021 and Innova prices have increased by 4 lakhs since 2020 !!! Unless EVs or some draconian laws hit this segment, the resale value will be insane.

Where did you get this statistic that only politicians and builders buy Fortuner. There are around 6 Fortuners in my society of 150 families and all of them are job holders or running small businesses. Fortuner is very common in Whitefield, Bangalore which is an IT hub. When 10000+ people per month can spend around 25 lakhs on TATA/Mahindra, why is it surprising that 2000 people can spend 50 lakhs on a Toyota? It's an incorrect pre-conceived notion about Fortuner just like people think only taxi fleets buy Innova. India is not so rich that around 5000 taxis worth 20+ lakhs are sold every month. Only 10-20% of Innovas are actually taxi segment.

I was offered 10 lakhs without negotiating on two A6s they had in stock in red/maroon. If colour wasn't a big criteria for you, I think you could possibly negotiate further.

At this point I feel Toyota is experimenting on the price ticking point of Indian's. Massive increase in price every couple of months doesn't really make sense. Or they are planning to lower their factory output of Fortuner to make way for Hyryder.

Fortuner and Innova are manufactured in a separate plant where only BOF are manufactured. Hyryder will be manufactured where Etios, Yaris, Camry are/were produced/assembled which is kinda empty right now. So Hyryder production line has nothing to do with Fortuner.

Toyota clearly focuses on profit margin rather than volumes, expect price hike every quarter to avoid any surprises. So next one should be in October based on the past trend.

Pretty soon it will be cheaper to buy a chopper/helicopter than buying a Toyota SUV/MUV (Sarcasm).

Re: The "NEW" Car Price Check Thread - Track Price Changes, Discounts, Offers & Deals

High import content, ever losing value of Indian rupee, high taxes, increased commodity prices, exponential spot buy prices for low tech electronics due to hoarding is not a good recipe for stable pricing. Not to forget Toyota has given up on being a volume player in India market and downgraded itself into being niche profitable player.

The only hope is that raw material prices will drop in the next two quarters and hopefully some of that benefit will be transferred to the end customers.

On a lighter note, getting to see a unicorn would be an easier prospect than getting Toyota to drop their prices. Dropping the prices will cause discontent among the buyers and eat into their profit margins they are used to.

IMO, the simple explanation is that -
1. For Innova and Fortuner, there's simply no competition, and hence they can price it as they want. Ford's exit has sealed the deal for Toyota in Fortuner's segment. Innova's segment didn't really have any competition (except Hexa, which got discontinued)
2. Customers are willing to pay for Toyota Quality.
3. The target group of customers (politicos, business men etc. for Fortuner, Fleet owners, People with large families for Innova) doesn't mind paying the high price. It's an aspirational asset for them.

Those are just 6 fortuners in your society in a specific location in a specific state. The sample size is way too small to make any reasonable assumptions. Politicians and large businessmen buy Fortuners and Innovas by the dozens at a time. They like having a sturdy vehicle that anyone can drive and they can lend to any of their henchmen/drivers without worrying about any damage to the vehicle. They are also driven by their bodyguards. They are very prone to being abused in the hands of their underlings and the indestructible nature and the guaranteed resale value pretty much make them akin to commercial vehicles like a truck or a bus which do not need any special attention and can be easily sold off when they need cash or when they are being replaced. Basically it's less a car and more of a commodity.

For example: the big businessman near my home owns 6 white fortuners. He also has a bunch of other cars including an bmw 530d, a couple of mercs, a jeep wrangler and a bunch of other cars. It's not that he thinks the fortuner is the pinnacle of engineering or luxury or driving pleasure; he has other cars for that; its just that he can throw the keys to one of his relatives or underlings whenever needed and have them run errands or move the car around when parked in a busy street without worrying about them screwing up a complicated luxury car that will then take ages to fix. You can also run them to 100k+ kms and still sell them easily. Try doing that for any other car in the same price band.

You should read my post again. There is a difference between "Politicians and big businessmen buy Fortuner" vs "Only politicians and big businessmen buy Fortuner". I was replying to the "Only" part as implied by OP. "Many non-politicians and non-real estate/big businessmen own Fortuner" is my point. Where did I claim that politicians don't buy Fortuner? Point is Fortuner customers are not limited to these professions. You can count the number of politicians and big businessmen who own Fortuner in this forum (I am not one by the way). People just assume regular job holders can't afford one so it must be black money holders who buy it. And FYI your sample size is even smaller than mine.

The only model which has a great discount support currently from Audi IN is the Audi A6. You can easily get about 10-13L off for an A6. The car is fantastic but unfortunately no takers. Hence, it's available on huge discounts throughout the year.

That's what they're willing to offer for the A4 and Q5, currently, due to low stock availablity. For A6 you can easily get above 10L.

Same here. Was frankly offered a good deal for the A6 last month, and about 6L off for the A4 over a call.
The A6 is in stock and Audi IN is pushing for higher volumes, hence, great support for the A6 and high discounts.
Other models aren't in stock therefore, low discounts.

Forgot to mention this was with 5 years maintenance and warranty. Further it depends on your negotiation skills and dealers desperation level.

I see what Toyota is doing. They sensed Scorpio-N is attacking the D segment, so they are taking fortuner to the E segment
