re: 2014 Mahindra Scorpio Facelift (W105). EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 7.98 lakhs

After initially disliking it, I guess I'm starting to like this car. Looks "mini fortunerish" to me. Suddenly even the grab handles don't bother me. Excellent Ad for the car by Mahindra. I would say a very good attempt by Mahindra, this one will surely sell like hot cakes (like it already does).

re: 2014 Mahindra Scorpio Facelift (W105). EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 7.98 lakhs

I am sorry but subtlety is totally lost on Mahindra design as far as I am concerned. The front is far too busy with lines and even more lines with seemingly no purpose to them. Some of the detailing around the car is totally unnecessary especially the tail lamps with "Scorpio" written inside and blue color inside the LED's!
Even the interiors haven't been left alone with Scorpio badging on the dashboard. The dashboard itself is still too shallow, the design of the instrument cluster is weird at best and the rear takes the cake. What going on! And when was the last time you saw rain gutters on a brand new car?
To me this is not even in the same ballpark as the new Safari Strome. The Storme to me is far more classier inside out. The new one is expected to come with the same harmon kardon system as the Zest which is surely going to take the interior ambiance a notch higher.

Couple of things I don't like :

1) The 2 base variants still have the power window switch on the centre console.

2) Why was the torque reduced ? For better mileage ?

The base storme has all 4 discs + ABS , good discounts and an AMC package that does make it appealing to me.

I really liked this reply on Anand's twitter. Our country is also getting a major facelift.

Anand further tweeted and I quote-"We awoke today to a new, Indian view of a distant planet. May it also be a day when the world awakes to a new view of India."

Just what the doctore ordered IMO. A 10 odd lac rupee 4*4 with basic creature comforts and safety features. The initial reviews seems to point at better handling and it not being as wafty as the outgoing version.

No matter what anyone says w.r.t. styling, this will sell like hotcakes.

Well done Mahindra!

While going through the review on autocar site, saw that tonight's autocar show on Bloomberg at 22:30 will feature the review of this new scorpio.

I think I have found my next upgrade.

Greetings of the day!

1.The refreshed Scorpio was also said to have an 8 seater cofiguration with front facing third row.

2. Has anyone seen the same? Comments?

Regards!

Had a look. Fairly impressed. Driving position seemed nice. Front looks lovely.

S10 4x4 is 14.7L on road in Kolkata.

It seems dual airbags are available only S8 onwards. Screenshot below from mahindras' website. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

re: 2014 Mahindra Scorpio Facelift (W105). EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 7.98 lakhs

Don't like the following
1) Height Adjuster on Driver Seat - only in S10. why not other variants?
2) Arm Rest on Front Seats - only S8, and S10..
3) power windows switches on central console for S2 and S4 ... who wants them there?
4) why micro hybrid tech for S2 and S10 and not the inbetween variants. is this a mistake?
5) Shift on Fly 4WD - only on S4 and S10. why not 4WD for other trims - S6, S8?

good things
1) central locking manual starts from S2
2) Heating, Ventilation & A/c starts from S2, unlike Innova having trims with no A/c
3) Tilt Steering from S4.
4) ABS from S6 + .. could have started from S4 onwards
5) Panic Brake Indication - thats new.. how does it work? how does it help?
6) Digital Immobiliser from S2. good
7) Auto Door Lock while Driving - could have been there from S4 at least.
8) Spoiler S6 onwards

The New Generation Scorpio

Ex-Showroom Prices (in ₹) Bangalore
S2 8,30,613
S4 8,95,268
S4 4WD 10,11,166

*Hazard on Panic Braking
Hazard Lamps are turned ON during panic braking for 5 sec when the following
conditions are met;
• Ignition is ON
• Vehicle speed is greater than 100 kmph
• Brake is applied
• Sudden High deceleration Rate

*Magic Lamps (if equipped)
Magic lamps are greeting lamps when you approach the vehicle and press unlock on
the RKE. They are a combination of the front park/position lamps and the rear tail lamps.
Magic lamps are activated when you unlock the vehicle using the RKE provided there were no theft attempts and the park/position lamps are OFF.

*Source-Owners Manual

They could have given armrest as standard.

Panic braking indication is all the 4+2 indicators flash to indicate the other drivers around that an 'emergency' is the reason for the hard braking.

A useful feature though but not many understand why the flashers light up.

I'd choose between Black and Blue. Worst to me looks Red due to the vague cladding on the rear door.

re: 2014 Mahindra Scorpio Facelift (W105). EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 7.98 lakhs

Just noticed that the body cladding is unpainted for the S2 and S4 variants. It's body colored for the higher variants.

While it's good to have a cladding on the base variant (the previous Lx didn't have one AFAIK )I guess an unpainted body cladding will look quite poor for all colors.
