Re: Mahindra XUV500 : Test Drive & Review

Hi All, I am very glad to inform you all that I have taken the delivery of my Beast.. Purple XUV 5OO W8.

It has already run 600 kms by now. However, I have serious concern about the running in period. Though, I have not crossed 2000 RPM even once but even at 1600-1800 RPM in 6th gear the car reaches at the speed of 80-90 kmph. will it cause any harm to the engine? Or should I stick to 60 as a speed limit.

I am following all the other rules of running in period. But the any comment / suggestion Speed / Rpm would be highly appreciated.

Thanks,

Don't worry about speed, keep the rpm under check. Most of the cars have only 5 forward gears and 2000 rpm on 5th translates roughly 80-100 kmph and hence those speed figures.

As long as you keep it under 2500 rpm, it should be nice. Make sure you give small bursts of red lining (1st & 2nd gears) now onwards, once the engine is warmed up.

I personally would try taking the car to 3000 rpms since it's done 600 kms now. Please make sure you dont stick to constant rpms for long time, keep varying it during the drive.

The discounts and freebies have to be talked to.
I had corporate discount (quite a good one ) and therefore no free accessories.
Not even floor mats

Opening a thread is under consideration.
I am still in double mind.

The vehicle is over two years old now and there are enough threads and pics already in the forum.
The only change is that mine is the latest one with the changes undertaken.
It reflects too.
There's a sea change in handling, suspension and the over all feel

I have almost finalized on W8 so wanted to know if there are any discounts offered on XUV.
I am purchasing from Hyderabad.
Request fellow bhpians to kindly share if there are any discounts offered in your respective places including Hyderabad.

The Sales person said that there are no offers on account of freebies and accessories.
However, by the way he said, I think there is room for negotiation

Thanks,
Many congrats and welcome to the purple gang. it surely is a wonderful colour.
As regards the running in, just keep the RPM around 2000 and you will do fine. And as suggested, keep varying the RPM and don't drive at particular speeds for a long period of time.
Enjoy the drive. It is a wonderful machine.

Dont worry about the speed but keep an eye on the RPM needle. This beast has long legs and reaches high speeds at low RPMs on top gears. As others suggested, vary your RPM from time to time. Take it to some high RPMs for very shoort burst and then again come back within range.

Curious though... what were you doing on 6th gear with such a new car? Were you out in the night on the city streets?

And that's precisely why we need your thread! This can build a lot of confidence in the fence sitters with respect to various parameters of the XUV.

Please do start a thread. We will greatly appreciate if you can actually compare the old variants and yours and provide us facts!

Congrats on the best! Wish you miles of happy, safe & trouble free motoring!
