Congrats on the majestic addition to your garage!

Any reason why you didn't get the hardwire kit for the dashcam, which would have enabled parking surveillance mode too - in addition to making a wiring as near and tidy like you've done?

But, with 2 weeks lost with me and family down with covid and daily worsening situation in Bangalore and now announced 14 days lockdown means my Thar will not be mine till atleast next 20 25 days.

It's frustrating but looking around me, I feel guilty for complaining about this delay, the world has more tragic problems to handle. What strange times we live in now.

Stay safe all. Eagerly waiting to be able to share my delivery experience soon.
I feel you mate, but I do believe that all setbacks are for good reasons. Stay right, take care of yourself and your family - your beast will be awaiting you when you're ready.

Moreover it's not like we can drive around much - my jeep has been resting for the last month or two, with a lazy 25 KM roundtrip within the city at best. You are not missing anything, and things will fall perfectly in place soon!

2.Is there a interference between the embedded displays output and the reflection from.the mirror surfaces?
I had posted a mini-review of my 70mai in my ownership thread with some night time pics, do check it out - the hardwiring part is posted here briefly. But to answer you, the camera pics the glare of high beams behind you on the night. i have it set to be always on - this is because using the "mirror" screen as a normal IRVM, while possible, may lead to us adjusting the mirror - which will lead to the front-cam losing the alignment you'd have set it to. It's better used as an always on screen - the glare from the lights in the night don't hurt your eyes, the screen just gets bright (see the photos on the thread I've linked).

I have positioned it unlike what you'll do with a traditional IRVM - It is not more like a "screen" in the middle, facing straight to the back. So the "mirror" part doesn't bother me at all, there is no interference. Even when I initially had it facing me like a traditional IRVM, the bother was not from the mirror interfering with the display, but high beams falling in my eyes - reflecting off of the "mirror" even if display is on. This is why I've focused the mirror away from me, so that the display is visible but lights don't reflect on my eyes.

Let me know if you have any more questions, happy to help!

Many many congratulations. So when did you book and what was your CPD? Asking because many of us are still waiting for ours.

Booked Online in November and never asked for a CPD. Wasn't in a hurry. Just got a call a few days back that my Thar was at the dealership. Worked on the purchase plan and had it delivered. Chose a dealer from Meerut instead of Dehradun. So the car came just now from Meerut.
We're in total Lockdown mode in Uttarakhand. But transportation is open so flatbed it was.

As I scrolled through the thread, my still-sleepy eyes caught the glimpse of a Thar on a flat bed truck - and I feared the worst - no not again, not another faulty Thar!!

But now that my system is up and running, Wow, some good news. Many congratulations Navpreet! This is indeed fab stuff.

You said you booked in November last, can you share the exact date maybe.

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

Guys, received my long awaited Thar. Each step was a hurdle and the particular Mahindra dealership was the most unprofessional ever even though sales people and sales manager were courteous. As such there is no process in place or lofty standards set by Mahindra to which dealers must confirm. It is each dealer displaying their own set of professional ethics with very little control exercised from parent.

Notes & observations

* Colour of coolant has changed from a muddy pink to bright blue.

* My vehicle was not even washed or cleaned before delivery. Excuse was no power saar. Standby genset is being repaired saar. Because of no power even HSRP plates had to be installed from some other shop which had power for which the vehicle was taken there with my permission.

* Considering covid, no sanitizer surface disinfectant spray applied to interior before delivery.

* The ac blower throws chilled air straight at my neck.

* Huge pressure from dealer to take their insurance which I declined. Later similar pressure applied to take accessories which I relented.

* The steering wheel needs a wheel cover else with hand sanitizer applied it has a tendency to slip.

* It can pull from complete stop 3rd on straight road and needs 2nd on incline.

thar model - LX/HT/D/Manual
booking date - Oct 22
CPD - Apr 28, 2021
date of actual delivery - Apr 26, 2021

questions

* it has hill descent control ! But does it also have hill hold control ?

* the key was taken outside to open the fuel filler cap and then I asked for receipt and maybe the attendent took the key with him to tear a receipt and the vehicle started giving proximity beep/horn ? Is the proximity horn a feature ??

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

As the stock fog lamp is not very effective, I wanted to install some good bi-xenon projector set up.
Researched through available options and finally decided to go for FE Retrofit ones.
Due to travel restrictions, I decided to order it online and get it fixed by myself.
After 3 days of DIY effort, installed FE Retrofit projectors on the fog lamp. I will pen down the DIY experience as a separate thread.

Posting few pics, sorry for the low quality.

Mahindra Thar : Official Review-thar-fl.jpg

Mahindra Thar : Official Review-thar-fog-lamp-.jpg

Also installed Front (Custom Fabricated) and Rear Arm rests

Mahindra Thar : Official Review-front-arm-rest.jpg

Mahindra Thar : Official Review-rear-arm-rest.jpg

Rear armrest came with led strip. As, I am not a fan of such lighting, I may take the led strip off some time.

Hi. What is your review of the JL style grill in terms of build quality. How are the panel gaps. Also how is the gap around the Headlamp?
Where did you purchase it from?

Next where did you order the Projector Fog lamp from?

Also could you please share more detailed pics of the front arm rests. Are the installed on the seat frame? A few detailed pics would be helpful.
Thanks!

Grill is from Azad4X4. Build quality is just average. If you see it closely you can identify panel gaps especially in the head light area.

Projector is from FE Retrofit, you may search online. There are other options also to look out. For Eg. IPH, Morimoto etc.

The front arm rests are bolted on to existing seat frame. I will share more pics soon.

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

It's raining Thars in here finally, & I am one of the lucky few who eventually ended up taking delivery of my LX Diesel AT HT on 20th April, was booked on 9th Oct 2020.

Have been driving in Thar for a week now and the initial thoughts.

1. I feel the initial on road exclusivity, which the early buyers were reporting, has eventually withered off, with more & more Thars on road. None the less, once you climb onto the high rise seat, you are in the world of your own. All the traffic seems crawling under your arm pits, the cabin is calm & seats are snug fit for my 5feet 4in, frame. I never used a dead pedal, so, I didn't feel the need of one. Arm rests would definitely be a good addition. Driver side leg space is good enough, & didn't notice any discomfort with the side of the left leg touching the centre console.

2. With four laning in progress of NH5, connecting Shimla to Chandigarh, there's lots and lots of broken patches on the road, where most of the traffic slows down, & this is where you know you are sitting in a Thar. Over taking is a breeze, and there's ample power to pull the vehicle.

3. Mine is an Automatic, and every time I shift from park to reverse, there's a slight thud/jerk, which makes you feel the drives are engaged, even though I am holding onto the breaks. Similarly, when I move from Reverse to Drive, there is again a slight quick jerk, nothing abnormal I guess, but it's my first Automatic, so just sharing & open for inputs.

4. I took it for a camping trip on the weekend, with my few close friends. It was a rough dirt track, having quite a steep down hill patches in between. Tried out hill descent control, and it works perfectly. The steeper the hill, the better the control gets. However, I always had the foot on the break, as not sure how much to trust these electronics.

5. Front seats are the best place to be in, period. Since it was four of us, back seats are sufficiently spacious for two. The inwards protruding tyre bumps, were adequately utilised to throw in sleeping bags on either side, and it made a perfect arm rest. Back seat ride quality & comfort is way better then being in a Gypsy.

6. I read back to back that AC is quite powerful but unfortunately I didn't find it so & I am talking about Shimla sun in the month of April. The black hard top, gets really warm, radiating all the heat inside. Its like sitting in microwave, and then waiting for AC to cool down the cabin. Front windows can be left open, to vent the warm cabin air, but still, fixed back seat windows, doesn't helps much to the cause. On the plus side, I was driving in heavy rain showers & for now didn't notice any water leaking in.

7. We did engage 4x4. Shifting from 2H to 4H & then 4L was super easy. However, to come back from 4L to 4H had it's own niggles. The gear stick won't just move, no matter how much we press the knob as per the manual. Later we drove to a completely horizontal patch, and only then we could disengage 4L.

8. At one instance, once all the luggage was removed from the cabin, the co-passenger side door, lock latch went to lock position in open door (twin out) condition & hence was preventing the door from closing shut. After observing the driver side lock system, and playing little bit with the external door handle, we could position the latch in open position manually & then only Thar could be locked for the night. This was strange, for a new car but nobody said a word about it.

8. Friends laughed looking at the glove box & boot space was another joke of the town. Over all the common review was, it's over priced for what it is.

However, I agree to disagree. I think, people who love Thar and who actually want it, will find n number of reasons to own it & take pride in that ownership, after all it's just not any other car, & it can't substitute a car in true sense. The guys who want it, they simply want it & they are more focused and in love with what it is & the evolution behind it. The rest have zillion of reasons to disqualify it.

Congrats to all the new owners, I know it's been a long wait.
Happy ownership.

Congratulations on taking delivery, mate - post some pics!

Surprising to know that the coolant colour has changed - does it still recommend MAHINDRA "MAXIMILE ULTRA COOL" GENUINE LONG LIFE COOLANT or JIS K2234? I remember reading somewhere about coolant colours and what they imply, their significance. Wonder why M&M has changed it...

To answer your questions - yes, my AT Thar has hill-hold control, I'm sure MT too has it (better check!)

The middle button on the remote key - the only with a * is a panic/ locate my jeep button. Pressing it will make the Thar flash n honk.

The mods look awesome! How much was this projector, can you post it's link? Is it a direct fit or does it need modifying the mount (for instance)?

Where did you get the arm rests done from, and how much did they cost? Arm rests and dead pedal is something I want to do in my jeep too...

Hi Mithun,

Kindly share more pictures of hand rest as I personally believe this type is the best suited for Thar. I hope you can fold it backwards as well. Did they mount it directly on the seat cushion / frame or did they use any extra enforcements inside the cushion to make it more sturdy?

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

Interesting video on the Thar 2.2 vs Endeavour 2.0 Diesel. The petrol Thar might be able to give competition to the new Toyota Fortuner then it seems.

This happens due to the "driveline binding". The solution would be, stop the car; put it on reverse gear (with low engaged), and reverse the car for a meter or two. This should unbind the transfer case and your gear shift will be smoother.
