Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

I am not sure if I am the only one who noticed this, but does the Thar have 2 different types of door handles?

It has the flap type door handles for the doors and the pull type door handle (near identical to that of the Scorpio) for the boot access. Was this an oversight from the design team or done on purpose to maintain the rugged, old-school feel?

Moderator, please remove this post, if this has already been discussed

Aren’t these light bars illegal for road use? I was thinking any light above the level of head lights is illegal in India or have the rules changed?

Hello all, tried to recreate the picture of my old ride with the new one. Old picture clicked in 2017 and new picture in 2021:

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

This is a cross post from Facebook where a user named Chaitanya Pise has come up with concept to enhance the capability and stance of Thar 2020. Following is what he suggested:

1. Shorter Double stack radiator to increase ground clearance, spacer with taller springs for increased terrain scope.
Mahindra Thar : Official Review-188065147_10159951700156318_2406775327701948213_n.jpeg

2. Paddle shifters for differential locks (front and rear), bigger infotainment screen with 360* view and better AC vent design.
Mahindra Thar : Official Review-187699579_10159951700246318_3480283207434341632_n.jpeg

3. Modular 5 piece removable hard top with rear wiper integrated on removable rear glass.
Mahindra Thar : Official Review-187597018_10159951700251318_822637984008978180_n.jpeg

4. Collapsible front windshield with short front and rear bumpers for better approach and departure angles.
Mahindra Thar : Official Review-187569045_10159951700151318_7699012866425129600_n.jpeg

5. Portal axles at the Rear for added undercarriage clearance.

While I love the freedom hard top concept and collapsible front windshield with shorter bumpers, I do not know how are the other solutions possible practically.

Yes, it does have the two types. There is a large and sturdy vertical grab handle on the boot. The boot does need a stronger and high-grip handle, as it is very heavy due to the spare tire. So they could not have used a flap type handle there. As for the doors, they could have used a chunky grab handle, however, as an off-road vehicle, there is more chance of bushes and creepers getting entangled in a grab handle with a wide opening as one goes through the rough in the jungles.

Hey doc, The concept indeed looks good but better to wait for sometime till some user reviews are out before hoping onto it.

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

Hello folks, I have a query regarding the roof-top tent for Thar 2020. I see Bimbra does provide a better hard-top and then ARB as someone has done so around Delhi.
However, I want to know if anyone has got this from Mahindra genuine accessories - m2all?
There was a roof-top tent on the list on m2all up until few days back. I couldn't find one today, they may have removed it! I don't think the current HT they are giving is compatible with an RTT (roof-top tent). However, I was interested to see if I get it from m2all, are they going to make any changes with the HT or replace with a better HT!
Your inputs are welcome. Thanks.

Not too many positive experiences about M2ALL. Sticking to the regulars might be better. Or try sourcing it via a dealer?

Hey robimahanta, they are illegal for road use. All the light flood bars will not be used anywhere on roads. They exist only for off-roading and back roads. The hella spot bar will be used on highways if necessary, it has been angled close to the car. That way I don't blind people in the opposite lanes. The hella bar's range is currently at 60 metres only.

A completely different topic:
Has anyone seen this horrendous crash?
A soft top thar, tried finding more details. But couldn't find any details except that both the passengers passed away on the spot.

Neat work mate.
I have been trying to get hold of Hella 470 Pencil beam for last 2 months.
None of the dealers here have it in stock.
I searched for the same online too, but did not find any stores selling 470 ones.
Thank you Mithun. Get the 350 if you don't mind, because the 350s are also running out of stock. The pencil beam won't make a whole lot of difference between the 350 and 470. If your budget permits, go for 2 350s :love it.

That is a devastating crash. Sad to hear about the death.

It literally feels crushed like a can. The impact is on 3 sides. Was the speed high? It feels it was hit on right corner. Did the airbags deploy with such an impact.

That is a blood curlingly horrendous crash! For a 4* rated well-built SUV to lie like a crumbled sheet of paper is indeed horrifying.

Does anyone know more about this accident? Was another vehicle involved?

IMHO, this looks like a small frontal overlap (<1/4 of front took the impact) at high speed with a heavy truck. These accidents are the worst and the vehicle involved often end up almost unrecognisable. I recall a Hector which had undergone a similar crash last year in Gujarat. It too looked almost the same.

The incident took place in Bikaner. Thar collided with a truck head on and the was rear ended by another truck.
Sharing the picture of the same .

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

The Thar does not stop anywhere .
Planning a couple of trips, hopefully the situation gets well soon.
One to the Thar desert and another to Leh.

Many owners have been reporting this issue in WhatsApp group. Seems this is a common issue.
Is any one here facing this issue? If so, any resolutions from Mahindra?
I had visited the service center before the lock down to resolve this issue.
Technical person from Mahindra had visited the service center to attend my case. He informed me that this issue is present for many Thar's due to some gap in actuator.
They had adjusted the gap and returned the vehicle to me to check for few days. Also they informed me, if its not resolved, I may have to leave the vehicle with them for 2 days as they need to fix it dismantling the dashboard.
I could not drive much due to restrictions.
When I took it out yesterday late evening, the issue has re-occurred.
