My XUV700 diesel automatic AX7L from the first batch at launch in 2021 has extremely bad road noise sound insulation. The engine sound as well as road noise is very loud inside the cabin. Is that normal across all Diesel automatics or should I get mine checked?

Visiting the Adi Kailash Parvat and the Om Parvat

Hi there all the esteemed members of the page. While I was on a visit to my hometown in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand, an impromptu plan to visit the Adi Kailash Parvat and the OM Parvat happened. Within a day we were done with all the medical certificates and the Permit passes to visit the two parvats as they are at great heights and further more near to Nepal and Tibet so under full army control. A general basic tests of BP, Oxygen level and ECG happened and we were issued a medical certificate. Then we had an agent in the Dharchula district from where the passes are made for which he charged Rs.800/person and got the permit made. We planned a short 2 day trip as it was just 200kms away from Pithoragarh and since the roads are also better, we planned the trip such as to start from Pithoragarh early in the morning at 5am and visit the Om Parvat the very same day, stay at a homestay for the night and then visit the Adi Kailash Parvat the next day and return back to Pithoragarh by night.
And thus we began our journey. Started off at 5am in the morning as scheduled(army family so being punctual is in blood) and then had breakfast at a local dhaba with mouth watering food prepared in wooden fire having that barbequed taste to the food.
After the breakfast it was more of a non stop journey to reach the checkpoints on time and by 12 noon we had reached the first checkpost known as the Chhiyalekh Post, were all the documents were checked and was under the control of the ITBP.

And then the real beauty of the place begins as Gunji district was just close to 20 kms and we were just cruising through the Himalayan hills in both the side of our road. Just a bit ahead of it we were able to see the Panchachuli peaks so clearly and close that it felt like we could just touch it if we went a few kms in that direction. The Journey further ahead was an emotional roller-coaster due to the roads, the views, the weather, and more importantly the spiritual presence of being so close to Bholenath. The car got stuck in one place only as the glaciers had melted recently and there wasn't any road, just the mountain rocks huge in size which didn't provide any grip rest the journey was a wonderful one. We found a perfect homestay with amazing views and good food .

There's a lot to share about the heavenly experience but yet a bit too short amount of time. Till next time and a new adventure details. Yes, I did get the benefit of price reduction. It was 18.79L Ex showroom. The sales team at Sireesh Auto Silk board is pretty proactive. They gave me a best quote straight away with good discount on insurance. And followed up deligently on my requests and adherence to time. They are very well organised.

Thank you so much for this advice! I literally found it reassuring! I ruled out a used vehicle, decided for a new diesel one and just heading out to book the Xuv 700, AX7 diesel automatic.

Thank you! I took your advice, drove the diesel variant too ( had already driven the petrol variant many times).

Didn't think much about running cost and decided for the diesel one. Heading out to book now.

I have an AX7 L D AT AWD and I find the cabin to be well insulated from road/engine noise at cruising speeds.
The NVH is well handled. Mine has an MY of June 2023.

Road noise depends on the tyres (and their health). Engine noise can worsen over time if the insulation guard gets damaged over time (due to rat bites, etc).

I suggest you get both checked. I have an AX7L AWD from Dec 22 with a run of 22k so far and find the noises to be minimal.

Definitely get it checked. I have a Diesel from the first batch as well. But there’s hardly any noise getting into cabin, and most times I feel I have a petrol.

My car too is a diesel AX7L from the first batch (first AWD in North East Asian per the dealer). No engine noise as such from my car though I make it a point to change the oil and filter every 5000kms (which might seem overkill but the environment car is driven in necessitates the same).

If you're talking about the suspension sound filtering into the cabin then - Yes, I've had that issue since Day 1. However, as per other car reviewers, that is because Mahindra did not insulate the suspension or something? Idk. The suspension is loud when going over bad roads but I've learned to live with it since despite repeated complaints to Mahindra and the dealership they are unable to resolve the suspension noise filtering into the cabin when driven over very bad roads over here in North East.

We are now at the stage of debating the colour choice and I liked the black(ish) interiors of the new blaze edition, but unfortunately Mahindra has gone with a unique exterior, not just the colour, but also the finish - matte. Now, I have no idea of what problems a matte finish paint can bring, but a brief search online leads me to believe that it is difficult and expensive to maintain. If anyone has some insights, please share.

What I observed, the XUV does get a bit noisy in Sports Mode.

Yes I wish mahindra launches more colours with black interiors. Even midnight Black will do.

I feel mine is quite bad in terms of insulation. I hear the engine mildly at low speed but it's roaring at moderate to high speed. Even during acceleration its LOUD.

Apart from that, the tyre noise is very loud on rough roads. and by rough, I do not mean bad pothole-filled roads (although it is very loud on such roads) but I mean roads that have a rough surface and not a smooth surface. It's loud to the point where it suppresses the details in the music that's playing at around volume 12-15 too and listening to music is not fun anymore.

The engine insulation guard seems to be ok.

Im planning to change the tyres to ones that are a bit more silent. My priorities are;

1. Low Noise.
2. Wet and Dry grip.
3. Good handling & braking.
4. Good fuel efficiency.
5. Mild offroading and mostly highway/city use.

I'm currently looking into Michellins but in India as per my tyre profile requirement 235 60 R18, only Primacy SUV+ is available on Michellin's website. Moreover, it does not mention low noise to be its strong point and hence I'm doubtful if it's for me.

I also see Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV, Michelin Latitude Sport 3 & Michelin Latitude Tour HP on https://tyres.cardekho.com. However, I am not able to gauge which is the best amongst the 3 and if either of them are outdated models.

Could you or anyone please suggest some good pairs as per my requirements in Michellins or any other reliable brand? Also, price is not a problem.

I've been researching this myself as I intend to change the tyres to A/T once the current stock tyres go EOL. I visited a few tyre shops and if price is not a concern, they all recommended Michelin (not for A/T though). I got a call earlier this week from my dealer sharing that they are providing 25k discounts on 2024 XUV700, and this was without me asking them for a discount (I already have a booking with them). So, discounts are starting to flow in - and this is across brands.
