My whole idea of asking these were the fact that if the acceleration is so slow, it would be difficult to do the highway runs in the plains till you reach those terrains up in the mountains. Also rule of thumb- shorter gearing- better acceleration, taller gearing- better top speed.

@RDS- thanks for the videos, 16 secs for the A/T is pretty acceptable for this car. I am looking forward to that first test drive and of course the price reveal.
I rechecked using stop watch - it does take a tad higher than 16, like 17.5 seconds. But AT also has an old trick up its sleeve for highway overtakes. It is the O/D (Overdrive on/off) button on gear. So, when you want to overtake you press OD, and the Revs rise to assist in overtakes. Then you again press O/D and it moves to the right gear.
If this feature is used, probably 0-100 time will reduce as well, may come down to 15-16 seconds. Someone will need to test though.

However, personally, looking at videos it seems that overtakes beyond 100 KMPH are going to take much time or planning with A/T. These will be easier with Manual.

However, up to 90/95 should be fine with AT.

Here is how it works. Watch video at 34:40 -

Check the below link in which they have mentioned that "During a select media briefing, Maruti's Senior Executive Officer for Marketing and Sales, Shashank Srivastava, said that the price of the Jimny will be announced on June 7."

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Finally, was able to have a look at the Jimny at Kalyani Motors Nagole, Hyderabad. First things first, the car is looking stellar in that Kinetic Yellow Paint finish.

I was more enraged than elated of seeing the car in such a condition and the people who was checking it out. The rear seat folding leavers are already broken. Plastics on the doors scratched and destroyed like a cloth fiber (MS claims scratch resistant plastics all over!) unruly kids are let in freely who was simply pushing all the buttons. They key fob is inside and the engine is turning on! and sales guys are just busy getting the prospective customers engaged. It is heart wrenching to see a brand new car in such condition.

Still so many questions, is it being launched today? or on 7th is there any live streaming?. This whole Jimny marketing thing from the beginning turned out in mediocre way.

The link you have just shared also says 07th-Jun ... Actually, few media houses did mention that the reveal would be on 05th-June.

MSIL's antics with the Jimny have been taken from the playbook of vapourware launches. Anyone remember Freedom 251?

I am sure there are people who work in the automobile industry out here. I'd really love to understand the flaky behaviour.

If it is to generate more posts or clicks for online publishers. Congratulations! But I seriously don't remember the last time annoying customers (given MSIL has been sitting on my money for the past six months, I technically am one), led to higher sales.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

I mentioned in my review that the rear coil springs were too soft and could have been stiffer. These front wheel lifting antics would have been mitigated to some extent. Basically the outer rear suspension squats so far that the Jimny turns into a tripod and lifts up the inner front wheel.

Good point.
So all those who wish to carve corners and do some rally type driving had better choose a more low slung car with harder suspension, rather than try performing these things when in the Jimny.
Let the Jimny do what it does best. Just be an unassuming little workhorse with a tiny little footprint, where there are challenging road conditions and in the narrow roads up in the high hills, on estates and the like.

You won't see these guys trying to drive a Verna around Maldevta river bed. Not sure why they are intent on treating the Jimny as a race car.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Jimny is already running rallys in Italy
Biggest pro of jimny is if you don't like a certain aspect of the ride characteristics there are enough aftermarket solutions to make it do what you want it to. I think the offroad aftermarket is going to mature further with a lot of aftermarket goodies entering India. Leading to other niche car manufacturers confidence in the indian market.

Price of buy back is 4500. Upgrade to Yokohama 215/75 R15.

Jimny will be priced~ 40k more than Brezza variant to variant.

Same quantity as overseas.

Do you even get Maxxis tires anymore? I loved the Trepador 235/75/R15.
Yokohama are available. Please do share a link of your review.

But I hardly see any 205s also no 80 profile in AT category yet. Hopefully we will get few soon.
215/75/R15 are available from Yokohama.

I am from Hyderabad too, let's get in touch. Green is not yet confirmed

Get the AT, bookings are in equal ratio for AT and MT.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

This is a decent review and comparison. Perhaps just a little bias towards the Jimny because of the Gypsy heritage.
But I wish the comparo had been done with a Petrol Thar vs the Petrol Jimny.
I think the ride will be acceptable to any one used to Jeepy things but a car user will grumble.
And I must say the pronunciation is ‘JIM-KNEE’ and not ‘JIMINY’ as in Jiminy Cricket.
