You do find desolate stretches in the evenings when you are driving towards Bangalore. My journeys have only extended from Neelamangala gate to the exit on Mysore road i think. For wonderla and the return journey. A total 19kms of NICE road costs upwards of 50rs in toll. Though its quite good to drive in the daytime, night time its very loney especially the return stretches as you hardly find car traffic and only a handful of trucks and minivans. And you cant make out junctions and other signposts if your car has as poor headlights as my figo and also as the road doesnt have lights you have to drive extra cautiously.

Does this mean we do not need to take the diversion at Bannerghata Road crossing(going from Hosur Road towards SH-17) . Google map shows its a straight route now.

^You are right. If you pay at EC Toll booth, its a non stop run all the way with that single journey toll ticket till Tumkur road exit.

This was a pleasant surprise today on my return trip. A great non stop drive from Hosur road all the way to link road exit. A drive which took just about 20 minutes. I am sure all regular commuters to electronic city through NICE road will benefit a lot from the connection completed in Bannerghatta road

I am posting this query here as I know the correct thread not.

I am planning to drive from Chennai to Mysore in October.

Is the NICE Road same as SH - 17?

Can someone explain to me the factual position and the best alternative.

SH17 is Mysore road a 4L state highway between Bangalore and Mysore.
NICE road is a peripheral 4-lane ring road, which runs around Bangalore along the full South-west quadrant. It connects NH7 (Hosur road) at Electronic city
to NH4 (Tumkur road, NH4) near Nelamangala. In this sector, it helps many people exit Bannergatta road, Kanakpura road (NH209), Mysore road (SH17). Magadi Road and
Tumkur road without getting into Bangalore.

The whole quadrant is about 40km in length. See it in google maps:

Thanks for the concise explanation that cleared all my cobwebs.

And till now I used to think that though Mr. Devegowda tried his best he could not prevent NICE from laying the Blr - Mysore expressway and now only finishing touches are pending. How wrong I was.

BTW, what is the current status of the expressway project?

You are right there too! NICE was supposed to include that expressway also!
It was supposed to run in parallel to the current 4-Lane between Bangalore and Mysore (SH17)
But today thanks to the state of affairs, its relegated to that peripheral ring road only ! I truly dont know what is the status of that expressway project.

Bad traffic pileup at NICE Electronic City today morning 9ish. I was stuck for more than 40 mts. I feel the design of the exit road need to be changed, may be don't allow a right turn to EC at the exit (I hate to say this)

This will cause a jam everyday on the other off ramps. Not a viable solution.

Is NICE road stretch from E-city to kengeri open now? Heard that it was closed for some repair for some time. Travelling to Mysore this weekend, want to be sure about road I take. I stay in whitefield.

There are no issues with road from E-city to Kengeri.

The exit at Hoskarehalli (between Kanakapura and Kengeri Toll) has been closed for maintenance.

I think they are concrete-ising the road. The original agreement talked about a concrete road and its been mentioned in the court cases that it was not followed. I heard they want to follow it to some extent (or at least the road towards Mysuru)

Work is also going on to connect the NICE road to Deepanjalinagar junction (Chord Road and Mysore road junction). I haven't seen much progress over the years, but I have heard that they are supposed to connect this to that junction.

Given the chaotic state of this junction, it remains to be seen how and where exactly they will join this road.

Thank you. I was not sure and might have tried to go through city and would have spent long time before I hit the Mysore road.
