I had given my Civic V A/T to the Honda A.S.S. today for a complete general check up. Every things seems fine except that the Power steering pump and the rack has a leak. I have been quoted an alarming 12k and 17k the repairs. That's a ridiculous 30k for a leak! What do I do?

Will anything drastic happen if this is ignored?

Hello all. This is my first post in this forum. I have a 2007 VMT civic run 42000 kms and in excellent shape. Recently I noticed the blinker on the left orvm is not functioning. The A.S.S person says I have to change the whole orvm.frustratin. Can anyone help. Thanks a lot.

Yes. Thank you for mentioning that. You are right, the previous owner had purchased extended warranty. I had even sent Honda the letter to transfer the warranty to my name.

I told my SA about this and he claims that the steering rack and pump can be replaced in the first two years, not under extended warranty. I told him to confirm this, else I will approach Honda regarding this. After this, he assured me that he will directly send a mail to Honda with my part number and try to cover this under warranty. He has asked me to call back after a week.

Again, I do not understand one thing - why are so many owners saying that the A.S.S. asked them to replace the front bearings when the car went in for service? The bearings are estimated at 12-14k. Why do all Civics have a problem with the front bearings only? Is this a scam or a known problem with all Civics?

Do not go to hass for the solution go to a competent garage for the same, you will save a tonne of money for same quality work.Look up team bhp dir for a garage near to you.

Also, I can never manage to fill my Civic to the brim.

Took her to the bunk today. The fuel guage showed 2 bars and had the reserve light ON. The attendant managed to fill 38.35 litres. Still the fuel gauge showed FULL minus 2 bars. This is happening for the second time on full tank now. Again, is this a common phenomena?

I always fill full-tank and all my bars are fully lit.

There are times when I deliberately go very low on fuel (tempting fate!), the max I have filled (from empty to full-tank) was 44.9 liters once.

2 bars = 45 tank full liters - 5 litres reserve - ((40 litres instrumented in guage/24 calibrations)*(24 calibrations - 2 calibrations left)) = 45-36 = 9 litres left
9+38 (that u topped up)=47l - almost close to 45l full tank. no way you should have those 2 bars blank, could be problem with the fuel level sensor.
Do a tankfull with autocutoff.

Of course my calculation is theoretically assuming that each calibrations sips fuel with uniformity, which can never be the case. But just assuring that you are letting in the right quantity of fuel.

Having played with 500/1000/1500/2000 and tankful, and at various random fuel levels - I have arrived at these references. Of course two cars will not be the same. but I trust these references are more or less good indicators.

Ok. Here is a weird problem.

My uncle's Civic (who is not a member and I am posting while on the way for an out-station journey in the same car) was last serviced at 67000 kms. He has not put his Civic to service and it is at 89910 kms. I test drove it too and drive is faultless. He says, he will put it to service at 100000 kms!!!!

I called him crazy but he says he has done this with 3 petrol cars before with no problem (Petrol Ikon driven 2 lac kms, Optra Driven 125000 kms and Petrol C Class driven 110,000 kms plus an Alto still going strong and being used by his driver personally). Meanwhile, his Diesel Fortuner goes for servicing at every 10k kms he says.

He further goes on with telling that 5000 km service is a money-making gimmick (to which I too agree!) and 10000 km too doesn't leave smudge in a petrol car, not even starting traces of it (he talks with experience having driven petrol cars for 37 years and the best of them)

Is it really possible to not get your Civic serviced for 33000 kms and not experience any deterioration at all? And here I get scared each time my car hits 10-12000 kms!

Afaik it has a 50 litre fuel tank.

10-12k without servicing is okay..heck maybe even 13k as long as its not been more than 15 months..but 33k kms is just pushing your luck.
With the kind of environment that we live in, it's too dusty and messy so I'm surprised that simple systems like the airconditioning didn't give in after 30k+ kms. The efficiency of the car would have reduced drastically.

One service per year is good enough. Should be the norm.

20 bars on fuel gauge, each bar calibrated to represent little over 2 liters. The reserve would be anywhere between 8-10 litres.

As Manim and devsoftech has mentioned, one could get in a maximum of 40-45ish into the tank, though the normal tank fill will be between 35-40 liters.
If possible, try to get the fuel filled full tank in the morning time. Also, get to the attendant and ask him to fill even after the auto cut off, after making sure, little time is given for the air to escape. If you can get around 3-4 liters after the normal cutoff, then ideally, you should be able to see all the lights up in the bar area.

The warning light can come anywhere between 2-3 bars, which will be influenced by various factors like inclination, gear in which you are driving etc.

2. How much fuel is there when no bars have been lit?
