After all my experiences with iOS17, I decided to roll back to iOS16 for my IP12mini. For starters, I wasn't liking the new phone call screen and the contact cards. But I noticed that after updating to iOS17, the battery was draining pretty fast. Checked and found that Apple is still signing iOS16.6.1 and I immediately rolled back. Though, I had backed up my phone but looks like I won't be able to restore it because of the iOS downgrade. I have the pictures and documents but apps I will need to re download and set up all the shortcuts and the smart home shortcuts again. A pain yes, but hope to resolve my issues. Will report back again.

Re: The iPhone Thread

I am considering to change my 4 years old XR during the upcoming deals in Amazon/Flipkart. I keep a phone for minimum 3-4 years.

Am confused between the 13 & 14. As both the phones run on the A15 Bionic chip, and hopefully both will receive the updates till the same time. The GPU in the 14 has an extra core ( I do not play games) with a slightly better camera. Are these enough reasons to pay 10k more for the 14? Or the 13 will be more VFM?
The only reason I am a bit more inclined towards the 14 is because, it will take better pictures in low light. The camera is an important criteria for me.

If camera is an important criteria and you don't mind stretching the ownership to 5 years this time, I would suggest go for the iPhone 15 or 15 plus. The iPhone 13 is going to be the most VFM iPhone in this sale season. The only issue I see is that post 3 years, it won't get any updates. 14 & 14 plus is almost sold out or as per FK, prebooked at the sale price. Happy Shopping!

On an another note, let us know what you shopping for your beloved Etios & Duster during this sale season

Thanks for the prompt reply.

I agree, that the 15 will be the best bet, but I do not want to spend north of 45k after exchanging my current XR. For the 15, including the bank offers I have to shell out atleast 60-65k, which I do not want to do at this moment.
But I do understand your point, that if I spend the extra money now, I can use it for another one year extra.

I was not aware that the 14 is almost sold out.
In that case, either I will go with the 13, or use my XR for another year and pick the 15 next year. I replaced my XR's battery last year, and it's currently at 88%. So I can keep it for another year.

Haha, I have not yet decided anything. The best gift for them is taking them for a long drive!

I would then suggest to stick with your XR for another year. Next year, go for the 15 plus or higher as per your budget.

This, makes more sense IMHO. Since your XR is on a new battery and still holding well; retain it for another year and pick the 15 next year.
The 13 & 14 are nearly identical and aren't quite different to say. The 15 on the other hand looks visually different with the dynamic island and stuff. The chip too is advanced and you'll have a newer device with more promised updates.

Re: The iPhone Thread

People using iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max, Apple has released iOS 17.0.3 to address the heating issues.

For the rest of the ones, it's still a recommended update as it has fixed 2 vulnerabilities:

I've been following the Amazon and Flipkart sale since the 27th. Only the 14 Plus was listed for pre-booking, the 14 was not. The price of 14 is yet to be revealed.

The iOS 16 updates in the initial days were quite frequent as well. Maybe you didn't notice because it did not have any visible side effect.

Even I was contemplating on doing this on my iPhone 13 Pro Max. I have a habit of charging it till 96% and putting on charge again around when it reaches ~20%. Earlier it easily used to last for a day but now it’s not even lasting a day!

On another note, iOS 17.0.4 is the 4th update in less than 4 weeks. I have been using an iPhone since 2016 but iOS 17 updates has really got me.

Every time I see a new iOS 17 update:

Sorry my bad a typo in the earlier post, it should have been 17.0.3. You are on the latest version.

These were the 4 updates: 17.0 -> 17.0.1 -> 17.0.2 -> 17.0.3

Re: The iPhone Thread

You guys got 17.0.4?

I just updated to 17.0.2 last week. Checked just now and I have a prompt for 17.0.3 in the update section.

We are now part of beta program apparently.

Re: The iPhone Thread

Just updated my iPhone 14 to iOS 17.0.3

Hope all is well and i am new to apple ecosystem. Battery health fell to 98% with just 105 cycles. It was 99% before the update to iOS17.

Re: The iPhone Thread

IOS updates are now becoming cumbersome and introducing more bugs than ever. I am on 12 mini and as others have mentioned, find the new os buggy with slow response from apps and heating of phone. I am now seriously planning to switch to android (Samsung / Pixel) in a year. The value proposition offered by iphone and Apple ecosystem (Everything just works!) does not seem to be holding true with poor optimizations year on year.
Though androind will also not be without bugs, but atleast the hardware like faster display, more RAM seem welcome for same or lesser price .
