Hey guys I am planning to buy a Toyota Altis Diesel (middle G variant). Hey can you guys guide me a little as to what kind of discounts I can push for? Given that the Vento is selling like hot cakes I am sure toyota people will be willing to give in some freebies. Also its diwali time and I always heard that you can push for discounts during this time.
Here is what the dealership Brochure says about the price breakdown:
Altis Diesel HG variant( middle one):
Ex Showroom price - 1279500
Road tax @ 10% - 127950
Registration fees with HP, MCD parking fees, Smart card - 4670
Number plate and number etching- 950
Logistics and handling charges- 3550
Insurance- 36509
Galaxy suraksha - 4000
Smile package - 4543
Total- RS 1461672
Freebies- none.
I am not sure what do they include in this Galaxy suraksha and Smile package.
Also they offered me the option of taking extended warranty for 4th and 5th year too.
I am totally confused.
Also I am wondering if it would be better if I buy the car in 2011 jan rather then now( the delivery time is approx 4 wks according to the dealer so that means I will get the car by nov end). I plan to keep the car for 5+ years. So would it hurt in the long run to get 2010 make car rather than 2011.

1. There is another dealer Espirit Toyota in the Mohan Cooperative. A friend bought his Altis there. They are amenable to negotiation. By playing one dealer against other you will get a better deal. He managed a 20k discount.
2. A 2011 model will always fetch better price compared to 2010 model. The only problem is that 2011 models will generally be available around February. Till then the 2010 models are delivered.
3. Take the extended warranty packages. In my opinion the other packages are not worth it, but try and find what they give. If it is some "treatment etc" avoid it. Dealers normally try to push accessories and other services as "packages", be sure of what they are before parting with your money

I just happened to go to ICICI Lombard and check the insurance price. And for this model they are quoting approx 25k. Thats a cool 10k less then the dealer.
Also are all the number plate charges( rs 950 sounds a lot) and logistics( rs 3500) sound a lot to me. Is this realistic?
I am sorry for if I sound ignorant because this will be our first car purchase. All our cars have always been used cars.

Please read the terms and conditions of insurance thoroughly, and compare them item by item. Dealers normally include all the possible clauses, while normal agents go for the minimum. For example items like Earthquake, flood, riots etc are omitted. Further for some manufacturers like Maruti their insurance package ensures repairs at any dealer in India, normally cashless. In case all items are covered and the terms and conditions identical, go for the lowest quote. Independent agents normally part with some of their commission, which the dealers are not likely to.

The charges like logistics and numberplate are in my opinion unavoidable, and I always bear with them. Look at them as a part of the on-road price.

This is about the Optra Magnum Diesel. Chevrolet advertised the Diesel LS version for Rs 8.09 L ex showroom Delhi on 19 Oct (Times of India Delhi edition). Metro Safdarjung gave me a quote of Rs 8.66 L on road with Haryana registration (Ex showroom Rs 8.09 L, Haryana registeration Rs 23000, Insurance Rs 27000 and handling charges Rs 5761). The only freebies are mats and mudflaps. Parking sensors and sunfilm @ Rs 5950 each plus tax.

I request expert opinions on the following:

Is this a good deal? Does anyone know of any other dealerships giving a better deal?

The ex showroom price is cheaper than the Army CSD Canteen price by about Rs 50,000 that I know (Rs 8.62 L ex Jalandhar).Does anyone have an update on the CSD canteen price

regards

@ Banarsi,

A few months back the CSD (Jalandhar) price for Optra Magnum 2.0 (D) LS was about 7.90 L & the LT version was around 8.85 L.
For which version have you got the price of 8.62 L from CSD ?

if the discount is officially from company then the CSD prices will be adjusted accordingly. contact few dealers who might be knowing when the CSD prices will be updated which should be around 8-10% cheaper then market value

if u can have CSD facility I would advise you to wait for CSD price Update insted of rushing. u will save a lot of money

@ rishab and @drsnt

Thanks for the advise

Seems I was indeed rushing forward recklessly. Got the CSD Ambala prices today. Rs 7.73L for the LS and Rs 8.55L for the LT. The dealer is offering a further discount of Rs 25K. Might go for the LT now

regards

I think that may not be true. Reason being Toyota is launching its competition Etios sometime in December and that will be added tough (guessing) competition to the segmet. IMO Corolla would not be affected by Vento.

I am considering Grande Punto MJD EP and got following deal from Pandit, is this a good deal?

Insurance & Extended warranty for 3000 instead of normal 24000, so roughly discount of 21000. And Exchange bonus of 15000. Can I squeeze in some accessories.

I had a chat with the executives at the "Scorpio Display & Test Drive" last week, they are offering only 5000 Rs discount for the "Scorpio 4x4 AT airbag version" (On Road price nearly 12 Lakhs). Any body got more discounts for this? I got 20K discount for even my 3 Lakh Rs Alto.

Manish,

This Insurance and Extended warranty package is there for a long time now ( they started charging 3K only from this month, it was free earlier). I assume it also includes the road side assistance ( don't know how useful it is !). You should get corporate discount if you work for an org which is in their list. You have to to bargain for accessories definitely.

Look at the new car bookings thread, you should get a fair idea of what the current deals are.
