Last weekend visited a local workshop (Augustine Car Care, Baner Pashan Link Road, Pune). The workshop guy repaired the internal broken lock using a simple wire. It took only 15 minutes for the mechanic to repair the damage and he charged me only Rs. 100/-.

Whereas, Mahindra body shop quoted Rs. 23K and 3 - 4 days time to replace the front bumper and right side fender for the same damage.

Overall completely satisfied with the clean work done.
You are welcome! Its as good as new. (Just so you know my damage was exactly the same as in the picture)

Its goes to show you how much of a difference we have between service centers. Them quoting you a ridiculous 23K and mine giving me this free jugad.

Re: Mahindra XUV500 : Test Drive & Review

Just completed a 1500kms road trip from Siliguri-Guwahati-Shillong-Cherapunjee and back on my August 2014 XUV.

I can easily say that in this budget it is the best road trip car one can own. My views of the car after this trip:

-We were 5 person on board and all were equally comfortable, rear leg room is so awesome that one can strech his or her legs fully beneath the front passengers seat.

-It was warm and humid outside and the AC kept things cool inside, even the chiller box was handy in keeping chocolates, packed curd etc.

-Its a highway cruiser, could easily maintain 100-120kmph on highways and overtaking was a breeze.

-Didnt face bad roads as such but little bit which we did was not an issue for this car, though wouldnt suggest this car for very bad roads.

-Even on the climb the pull was good.

-Handling was good in spite of the size, thanks to the monocoque construction though had to slow down a bit at sharp turns, still much much better than ladder on frame SUVs.

-Travelled 700kms on the final day and trust me it was not tiring at all. If one looking for mega road trips, this is the car.

-Got average fuel efficiency of 13kmpl, not very satisfied but quite satisfied with it.

-All the above should be better with new age XUV

Hi guys. My car completed 3 months and 4000kms recently. Today l noticed something strange. The rear passenger door was open and I locked the car by remote. The car locked, without giving any alarm. I waited for sometime thinking maybe there is a delay function, but the car gave no alarm. After this, I noticed this is the case with all doors except driver side door. The interior lights also are not coming up when I open any of the doors apart from the driver side one. Neither is the door open indicator showing up. Anyone who has faced similar issue? It's up for first service in a few days and I'll get it checked, but feeling disappointed with a niggle coming up so early.

The vehicle usually gives an alarm (loud beeps) along with the blinking of both indicators.

Q) Does your vehicle have the alarm ON? It is ON if you have reverse parking sound.

If not then turn it ON and check again.

Even if the alarm is OFF the car will blink the indicators if any of the doors is not properly closed. Its mentioned in the manual.

If the problem persists it does need to visit the service center.

Is there a reverse parking sound in xuv. I have never seen that. How do you switch the alarm on?

Yes there is a reverse sound in xuv which you need to enable. I think by default it is set to off. Once I was in the service station and they asked me if I would like to set it on. I found the sound to be okay and asked them to set it on and they changed some settings thru the laptop to turn it on. No accessory is needed for this. The sound comes on when you engage the reverse gear.

The simplest method to turn ON the alarm sound is by long pressing the door lock button on the key till the cars indicators blink (usually 3 secs). Then get in the car and engage the reverse gear to confirm.

PS: The method is mentioned in the cars manual. It comes in handy when you try to reverse in the neighborhood at night and want to switch off the alarm.

But this will be enabled only when the main switch is enabled at the service center by connecting the laptop. Once that is active, then you can long press the lock button for 3 seconds to enable or disable the sound.

PS: I would have been happy if the sound was enabled when locking or unlocking the car.

Can it be enabled at the service centre? I think its not a big deal, provided ASC people are ready to do it. It can only be enabled by wiring I suppose.

Its literally 2 min job. They use their service laptop and one click you are set.

You don't have to even book an appointment. Just call your SA and tell him/her you are driving by and he/she will happily oblige to turn it on for you.

Are you sure in XUV locking and unlocking doors sound can be activated through laptop? I doubt.

Locking and unlocking sound cannot be enabled in xuv, I think it is not designed for the same. I had checked this with my SA and I was told that it is not possible.

The sound comes only while reversing and when the door is not closed properly and you lock the car with your remote.

Most roads i go to deteriorate every time I pass by and only gets worse. Buying an SUV was decided. My next vehicle was destined to be a go anywhere without tension kind of a vehicle.(even if it would be a bit slower)
Then in my Budget, I had only Duster and Scorpio. When I went for a TD, Duster seemed like a downgrade from my Optra. It had less space, less power and lesser refinement. Also, my elbow would touch the front co-passenger everytime I shifted the gears, seats were too small as well. Minimal features and top end AWD diesel at 16.2L did not make sense to me.Therefore it was ruled out.
Then when I TD'ed Scorpio, I really liked it. We also did a TD of XUV in the same go. Considering the price difference, XUV AWD offered a lot more and finally was the best choice, a perfect all-rounder. Huge thanks to the forum on various ownership threads that give me a perfect idea of what I was going for.
Hi Aniket,
This was much useful. I took TD of XUV5OO and Scorpio. I like both and the Scorpio's stance was great. To add a few, I really liked the XUV5OO AWD than FWD. An SUV with 4WD does offer more traction. It is my personal experience when I was reversing with a RWD vehicle on an narrow steep incline, the rear wheels spin at low traction, it was just a parking bay not a hard off-roading. Again the plus point of AWD XUV5OO is it does not fish tail during hard cornering. More safe as well. Keep us updated on your new explorations. Happy miles ahead.

XUV 500 W4 - Replacing headunit

Hey Guys,

Apologies, to troll on this thread. I am planning to book the XUV 500 W4 on Wednesday. However, I am still concerned on the aftermarket ICE install. I have read everywhere saying that its not easy and it cannot be done.

The W4 has a very basic system and no other electronic feature in it. Attaching the image of the centre console that hosts the W4 music system.

I would like to know if anyone out there has replaced the headunit with a 2 DIN, and is not facing any problems.

The dealer says that the airbags and some other electronics are connected to that music system. Please can someone throw some light on this. I don't think I have too much time to do so.

Your help, information, experience, opinions are all welcome.
