From what I understand, this does not show up on the error codes when connecting VAS, so should be good. Having said that, any Service centre would be deflecting or ignoring some of these small items basis the relationship one builds. Fortunately, I have managed to build some good relationships with a few people there, so fingers crossed, hoping there wouldn't be any implications / challenges due to these small / less obvious things.

I've responded back to your queries to your DM

Re: Skoda Superb : Official Review

Thank you for your real quick responses!

I guess I am not able to send direct messages in team-bhp, considering I am fairly new to team-bhp, and it would be awesome if you can send me those details via direct messages too!

And the following is a very short description of my hardships with the speed alerts.

Getting into a decent pace of around 100kmph very very late into the nights on national highways. For the first few minutes, while the hustle is settling down, the above 80kmph for a minute beeps are gleefully ignored. The first instance of a bus trying to overtake another bus is sighted, or for the matter two or more vehicles with the same relative speed. Our Superb's speed is reduced at the first possible moment to just a tad bit above 80kmph to attempt waiting for the overtake happening in front to complete. It's still not enough, the vehicles are way slower than that 80kmph threshold, and the Superb is at the safest closest distance to them. Superb's speed is brought down to match the lower speed. The road opens up after patiently waiting for the overtakes to be done. BEEP. Oh worry not, the Superb just crossed the 80kmph mark. The passengers hustle a bit, but settle back for the slumber. Right when all is back to normal again, BEEP, oh for crying out loud, that 80kmph alarm.

Side note: While attempting above said maneuvers, other fellow roads users take the slowing down of the Superb as a sign of utmost capitulation, and happily slot in before the Superb in the overtake queue, unintentionally aggravating the whole point of the process. And, yes, this has meant, the 2011 Ford Fiesta of ours is much more calmer (not necessarily smoother or safer) for now on the highways, sans the BEEPS.

Re: Skoda Superb : Official Review

Hello everyone,

I was in the market for a car around 30-35 and have been waiting for the Octavia for a long time. But the higher pricing has almost convinced me to look at the Superb Sportline as a better meaningful alternative. I have always been in love with Sedans for a their driving dynamics and seat comfort on really long drives. Here are a few questions that I am unable to answer myself (well I do have answers, but probably needs a little nudging from this group here):

1.) Is the ground clearance of an Octavia/Superb going to be problematic while driving to nearby destinations from Bangalore (like Coorg, Ooty, Chikmagalur, Connoor, etc.)?
2.) A friend suggested to get a rapid and harrier in the same price to get a mix of both worlds in the same price. I am against this just because neither car might give a 'premium' feel but opinions here?.
3.) Getting a discount of 1.5L on the superb sportline and I might have been spoiled by all the reviews here that suggest they were able to get a discount upwards of 3L easily in most cases. Is the timing wrong here or is it a region/area thing or maybe I just need to play harder?
4.) The only feature I find really missing out on the sportline would be 360 degree camera which I feel is a necessity for such huge cars in parking scenarios around malls or movie theatres.

Basis all this, I am thinking best case scenario would be to wait for an Octavia L&K to get discounts (hopefully) because I dont find it worth the current price of 35L (maybe more like 32 is what its worth).

I am willing to wait a few months for discounts as well since travels are anyways a bit restricted in the current COVID situations. The car will be primarily used for weekend outings and trips around Bangalore (atleast once a month).

Thanks in advance!

Hey buddy,

I currently run two dashcams in my Superb. One of them (front facing) is my old dashcam (Yi dashcam) which I had with my previous car. I recently bought a DDPai dashcam for the rear.

I do not recommend hardwiring the dashcam for two reasons:
1. I am not sure if you can find a suitable fuse which turns off when the car is off. This might mean that the cam will always be on and you risk draining the battery.
2. Skoda horror stories still haunt me, and I wouldn't want to risk voiding the warranty. With the USB cam, I can always remove the cam before I give the car for service.

That said, here is how I've wired the cams, with both being powered by a dual USB socket adaptor for the cigarette lighter, in the rear middle:

Front cam
1. Run the wire from the camera into the driver side sun visor. Alternatively, you can conceal this cable in the gap between the roof liner & the windscreen.
Skoda Superb : Official Review-front-cam.jpeg
Skoda Superb : Official Review-front-sunvisor.jpeg

2. Run the cable to the rear, using the grab handle to keep it in place:
Skoda Superb : Official Review-front-grabhandle.jpeg

3. Run the wire through the hook on the B pillar, and push it into the plastic groove. Alternatively, you can run the cable in between the trims on the frame.
Skoda Superb : Official Review-front-grab-handle-rear.jpeg

4. At the bottom of the B pillar, take the cable out and connect it to the adaptor.
Skoda Superb : Official Review-rear-door-.jpeg

5. Tie up the slack of the cable and tuck it into the pocket on the back side of the driver's seat.
Skoda Superb : Official Review-rear-seat.jpeg

Rear cam
1. Run the wire from the camera into the groove between the trim & rear windscreen, run it to the rear right quarter panel.
Skoda Superb : Official Review-rear-cam-.jpeg
Skoda Superb : Official Review-rear-cam-cables-tucked.jpeg

2. Take the cable over the C pillar, and run it into the groove of the rear right door frame, run it till the C pillar.
Skoda Superb : Official Review-rear-door-frame-overlap.jpeg

3. Run it into the same groove on the B pillar.
4. At the bottom of the B pillar, take the cable out and connect it to the adaptor.
5. Tie up the slack of the cable and tuck it into the pocket on the back side of the driver's seat.

The DDPAI cam comes with a neat tool to help you tuck cables into the groove between the trim & the frame/door.

Note: While I could easily remove the trim, tuck the cable and replace the trim, I did not want to do it now. I have therefore stuck to a DIY, doing the easiest possible path. This ended up in the cables being somewhat messy.
Given that the car is used only by me, with my wife being the only occasional passenger, I can live with this for now (at least, until she realizes the mess).

When I get some time, I plan to re-do this. Final plan:
1. Remove trims where possible, put the cables inside & replace trim.
2. Cables to go in where the camera is attacked, and come out at the bottom of the B pillar.
3. Run a plastic flat tube under the mats on the rear left foot well, run the cables in through this tube
OR
run the cables under the driver's seat, securing it in place so it doesn't interfere with the seat mobility
4. Cables to come out in the rear center, to be plugged into the rear center console.

Note: The Superb's always ON cigarette lighter sockets are super annoying. I currently plug in the adaptor as a start up ritual, and plug it out as a parking ritual. Its become pretty easy for me to reach my hand behind the center console to do both. That being said, the DDPai one has a parking mode, which turns off the camera after an idle timeout. I haven't tried that out yet, but seems to be a promising idea. If that works, I plan to change my Yi cam for another DDPAI one and un-learn this ritual

Will visit the dealership one of these days to get the HS number plate installed, and will also get SkodaConnect activated then.
I didn't check the manufacturing date, will revert.

If I may, I would like to outline some pointers regarding discounts..
1. There are DAN support discounts allocated by Skoda every month for various models, and every dealership receives this communication. On top of that, the dealer will usually extend a bit more discount if they know you're going to be a customer for sure.
2. I took quotations directly from Bajaj, Reliance and United India insurance with all of the Add-Ons provided as part of the Skoda Drive Assure Elite package. I informed the GM Sales that if I got a better deal directly from the dealership, I would purchase the insurance from them. He arranged for the RM of Bajaj to meet me, and I got a substantial discount from them on the Basic+Drive Assure Elite package, even better than what I was being offered by my brokers.
3. I purchased the Extended warranty & Service Maintenance Package from the dealership, and used that as a bargaining chip to waive off depot charges, as well as to get good discounts on the Ex-Showroom and Insurance costs.
In all of these, of course, it is important to being cordial and polite, and to develop a rapport with the Sales GM.
I received a lot of support from mine, and I genuinely felt like the dealership as well as Skoda wanted me as a customer.
End of the day, as long as we are cognizant of the fact that the dealership also has to earn revenues from these sales to survive, and make the opposite party know we understand their limitations, things usually work out well.
Without putting a number value to it, I can say I received a discount very similar to some of the higher figures being quoted in this thread.
Hope this helps

Re: Skoda Superb : Official Review

The thing I miss the most in Superb Sportline as compared to L&K is TPMS. I don't know why Skoda skimped on a cheap to implement but so useful feature in a 35lakh rupee car. I have ordered Sensairy internal TPMS from Amazon after reading through reviews on the TPMS thread. Would get it installed next week.

Also needed a suggestion on what's the right tyre pressure ? I find the ride to be bumpy, especially at the back at 34PSI. Thanks

Re: Skoda Superb : Official Review

Bought Skoda Superb, ONCE AGAIN!

Team BHP is a great place if you want to make buying decision on a new car because you get inputs from experts + real users. Here is my contribution to world's best automotive forum.

Family was looking to replace 9 year old Superb with a more premium sedan. Our superb was majority of times used for family trips to rajasthan and mumbai so collective decision was to be made for new car. Even before test drives we had decided that next car would be from Audi, BMW, Merc or Range Rover(SUV was not on list but sister was insisting for RR so we had kept Evoque and Discovery Sport on list too), Superb was never on our list.

C Class, 3 series, A4 and RR was instantly rejected by family. Reason: Very limited rear seat space, discovery sport has good rear seat space but we don't like SUVs much. We decided to increase our budget and new shortlisted vehicles were E Class(BEST in segment) and 5 series( Even 5 series has limited space but after looking overall package and great deal it was on our list). We had almost finalised E class but one day brother decided to take have a look at Superb with updated features in 2021. After lot of test drives and family board meetings the choice was done, it was Superb which won our hearts once again. Reason: Value for money, wonderful boot space(0 marks to e class and 5 series for limited boot space), and great rear seat space.

After seeing new Lava Blue colour in showroom no scope of discussion was left for choice of colour. It is the MOST AMAZING factory original paint I've seen in any car till date. We bought the car in april month

Skoda Superb : Official Review-img_0549.jpg

This peacock blue colour changes shade depending upon light, pictures don't do justice to this beautiful shade. To see the beautiful play of different shades of green and blue you need to see the colour in person. But after using white car for 9 years I can feel the pain of maintaining this dark shade

What I Like
  • Amazing ride quality, very soft suspension setup. Step up from previous gen.

2.0 TSi is a GEM! I had 1.8 TSi before. Looking just at displacement one will figure out that there might not be much improvement but it is a whole new game. The note changes when you floor the gas pedal, it was absent in previous gen

I found out fuel efficiency is slightly better even after more powerful and large capacity engine compared to previous gen

    Cooled box below arm rest

Amazing sound system(High range could have been slightly better)

    Comes with rear camera washer

    360 camera

Virtual cockpit with lot of info

Adaptive LED lights, the small light below main headlight unit lights up during certain situations. Haven't found any proper working video of what triggers the light but it's always there when you need it. Super useful.

Animated Headlights and Taillights with dynamic swipe indicators at rear

Request sensor on all doors-a very useful feature. It has sensor on inside part of door handle so no need to press any button or anything. Just natural gesture of opening handle and your job is done. Simply Clever!

Rear armrest with pen and mobile/tablet holder.

    Boss button for passenger seat

    3 zone ac

    Felt lining on door pockets

    Rear Nap package

    Comes with blanket

Crsytal design elements in headlight and tail light

Smart suggestions by car. If you open sunroof or windows when ac is on it will show on virtual display.

    Best in class boot space.

Dislikes
  • No improvements on noise insulation compared to previous gen. Some wind noise is heard when stereo is off from driver side window.

    No panoramic sunroof

120kmph alert chime is very loud

Removed dimming feature for passenger side orvm

Auto start stop system is too eager to turn off the car, there should be little bit delay.

    Removed magnetic torch

    No connected car tech

Picture of both brothers

  • When it's dark, the headlights are on, and when you engage reverse gear, those triangular lights below the headlights light up
Dislikes
  • No improvements on noise insulation compared to previous gen. Some wind noise is heard when stereo is off from driver side window.
  • you might want to see if getting sound dampning helps you with it. I got it done for mine and is far more quieter than it already is.
  • If it's just the air / wind noise, please do see if the rubber strip is slightly off anywhere around the door edges
120kmph alert chime is very loud - I hear you, it is not the most pleasant one while enjoying some nice stretch. If you have anyone in your locality who can disable it using adaptations / OBD, do give it a go.
Congratulations again! Wishing you lots of miles (kms) and safe drives!

Here are a few more pics of the Sportline, after having treated it with good old Waxoyl 100 Plus Paint Sealant.
PS: The car is a serious head turner!

Wow. Fantastic pics. I'm actually jealous. Is it normal to be jealous of another's Superb despite owning one myself ?

On that note, how on earth did you manage to get 18 kmpl?
I average 8kmpl with a super light foot, and 6-7 with a heavier foot in the city, and around 10-11kmpl with a light foot on the highway.

Thank You So Much.

You are right LED lights up when reverse is engaged but it also lights up during certain situations. Mostly noticed when speed is moderate and some vehicle comes nearby. Do notice on left side of vehicle.

Regarding OBD won't this void warranty if aftermarket job is done? If possible I would also like to add functionality of boot lid closing from button near gear lever.

Thank You So Much.

Yes, even race blue looks awesome.
I remember one incident when a maybach owner was appreciating the car especially the lava blue shade. Received many compliments from strangers also regarding colour.

FE of 18 is possible only on highways with cruise control set to 74-75kmph and ECO drive mode. But you need so much patience which is not possible everytime
Mostly I get around 8 in city.

ECO mode is butter smooth but we have to be very cautious when using it. Once I had to accelerate suddenly in city to avoid accident and DSG gives serious delay in such situations so use only on highways.

Well, not really all that difficult to get good mileage figures. I've managed to get above the ARAI figures many times even with my 2019 Octavia 1.8 TSi DSG

Skoda Superb : Official Review-ernakulam-trivandrum.jpg

The above trip was we were returning from Ernakulam to Trivandrum. As you can see, the car was fairly new at that time and I crossed 1000 KMs on the odometer on the way to Ernakulam on that day. Average speeds were what you can typically do on Kerala highways without over-speeding, and I did end up getting stuck in a humungous block while trying to exit Ernakulam.

Skoda Superb : Official Review-thiruvalla-trivandrum.jpg

The second trip was when I drove from my home to my wife's grandmother's house in Thiruvalla. Again, typical morning Kerala highway traffic.

Skoda Superb : Official Review-mileage-run-trivandrum-city.jpg

This one was a couple of weeks back. I was truly jobless and bored and tried to see how much I could squeeze out of the 1.8 TSi DSG. I saw the mileage go as high as 19.8 KMPL, but it dropped by the time I got into heavy traffic near my home. One thing I made sure was that I never crossed 85 KMPH and tried my best not to stomp on the throttle
