re: Next-generation Mahindra Bolero? NAMED: Mahindra TUV300! EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 6.90 lakhs

Being boxy isnt bad, but if I wanted a box I would have gone and bought myself a Bolero or a Sumo Gold! w.r.t. proportions those 2 are still better. The rear end seems to be too short just like the Quanto. The design itself is ok, may be manufacturers shouldn't try too hard to design vehicles under 4M. The Govt. is to blame, thanks to them the world has seen some of the ugliest automobiles every manufactured, even worse the ugliest is the top-seller last few months!

Adding couple of pictures from the source - http://anything-on-wheels.blogspot.in which has the un-camouflaged side & rear profiles of the vehicle. Pretty decent & proportionate the rear is, especially in comparison with the Quanto. A tinge of Yeti, maybe...

This looks so much better than I thought! Only wish Mahindra sold this as a 5 seater, leaving the last row for a proper boot!

Sure. But still that wont have a proper partition for the boot like in a Hatch. A 5 seater TUV with a factory fit partition for the boot would be a lot more desirable, IMHO!

Yes, a tinge of Yeti and also maybe a bit of the FJ Cruiser's profile. Now if it would only cover base with at least some of the competence of those worthies.

Yes you can - I have done this with my Scorpio.

From all the leaked sources it seems that an AMT transmission is in the pipeline a little later. That will certainly add to its USP.

Thanks Aditya, the interiors are not a let down, but they could have been done better, I think.

Here's an official teaser pic:
The teaser pic looks terrific and definitely adds to the eye-candy quotient! Yes, the 1.5 litre engine - a tweaked version of the Quanto 3-pot twin-scroll t/charged engine according to the various blurbs in the media - is dubbed M-Hawk 80 or something like that. This has led to some interesting speculation, ranging from "only 80 bhp!" to "must be 80 KW!"

Nice styling from the M&M design team !

It remains to be seen how much 2nd row legroom is available after making this a 7-seater. IMHO, a 5-seater would have been perfect.

Doesn't a 7-seater attract additional excise duty ?

Btw, can anyone make out the tyre profile from the photos ? One of the Ceat czar HTs comes in 205/65/R15.

The steering looks nice and chunky. Quality looks good as well (from the picture atleast).
The rear bench is wide, much wider than EcoSport. If they manage to get the ride perfect, this car will sell in good numbers.

Is this the next-generation Mahindra Bolero (U301)? NAMED: Mahindra TUV300

I hope the steering in this picture is not from its top end offering. If it is then it looks too basic.

I guess cruise control would be too much to ask for on a sub 10lac offering, although definitely look forward to some convenient blue tooth and audio controls on the steering wheel.

re: Next-generation Mahindra Bolero? NAMED: Mahindra TUV300! EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 6.90 lakhs

I am starting to like it more and more. I always had a soft corner for the old Nissan Petrols that were boxy. Now if only the top trim with all safety features is priced around 10 L OTR Chennai , I would buy it without a second thought; even if the ride is similar to the Bolero.

Lets wait and watch, Less than a month to go.

Anyone can shed some light on the drawbacks and pros of this being a 3 pot engine?

Better mileage,
less power as compared to Scorpion,
?
?
Or am I off on a tangent in these two assumptions?

Thanks in advance!
