Bad Eggs (2003)

The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)-be2dd03df6b7a7c90943e041fb3d5662.jpg

Synopsis - After the freak death of a magistrate lands on the front page of the local paper, two elite Melbourne Police are demoted to uniformed duties. As they investigate the accident, a link to a shady casino boss exposes the corruption in their colleagues.

Fun little Aussie movie. Nothing great or special but was a good watch - light hearted comedy.

Rating - 4/5

You can try Justwatch to check to check for availability, it scans through most of the popular OTT platforms.

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

The Post starring Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep. It was an awesome Drama depicting the leak of classified Pentagon documents on Vietnam war and how the US government knew the futility of the war and despite that decided not to withdraw. It led to The New York Times and The Washington Post publishing these leaked documents and their subsequent fight with the government in the Court. These were the events before the Watergate scandal began in 1972. The movie is available on Sony Liv, though Justwatch website didn’t show it as listed on Sony Liv.

I would recommend watching this and give rating of 4/5.

Watched November Man starring Pierce Brosnan today. It's available on Netflix. A good one time watch.

I've also watched a host of other movies, sadly I don't recollect most of them!

Fruitvale Station (2013): 4 / 5

If the current 'Black Lives Matters' (and George Floyd) protests confuse you from a cause and effect perspective, this movie is worth the 2 hours of your time. Directorial debut for Ryan Coogler (of Black Panther fame), it's a simple and short recreation of the last 24 hours of Oscar Grant, a black resident of the Bay area who was shot (and died) by police on a subway platform.

Simple, no-nonsense storyline - the movie also in parallel builds up the storyline of a few invisible characters who are present on the subway, filming/seeing Oscar getting shot for apparently no reason.

Now I remember,

6 Underground - No comments. (Netflix)

Parker - Typical Jason Statham movie. (Netflix)

John Wick - (Netflix) I liked this one. Where can I find other parts?

Safe House - A Denzel Washington treat. (Netflix)

The Accountant - Another good movie starring Ben Affleck.

Bowfinger (1999)

Not disclosing the plot as it's very similar to a famous Malayalam movie. Steve Martin was good as always but Eddie Murphy was brilliant. Pretty nice movie with some good laughs. A definite watch.

Rating - 4.5/5

I loved this movie. Note that Heather Grahams character is a parody on Steve Martins ex-wife who was as opportunistic !

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Godfather 1 and Godfather 2: These films, made the way they have been, would have flopped dramatically if shown today. 1, except for some iconic scenes, is so badly made. Having read the books, I sat through it fully entertained for the entire duration, but the amateurish editing and shooting really rankled. I doubt if anyone who has not read the books will be able to sit through them.
Similar with part 2, but the saving grace was Vito's life, and how the period was shown.
I would still rate them 4/5

Vengeance - A love story: Oh dear, Mr Cage, what has happened to you? Revenge movie about a cop who takes it out on four rapists, because he develops a connection to the victim and the daughter. Everything is sudden, quick, and over so fast! Am a huge Cage fan, so sat through it, but its a totally unjustified waste of time for the viewer. It also has Don Johnson, and seems to be a weekend project for both the actors.
2/5

The Infiltrator - Amazon Prime - 3/5

OK one-time watch. Specially if you like Bryan Cranston. It is about a US Custom's undercover agent infiltrating drug king Pablo Escobar's operations and bringing down the drug and related money laundering networks.

OMG, I don't want anybody to comment on those iconic movies (At-least for the sack of Maria Puzo) But On a deeper thought I would have a resounding yes to your observations like you said barring some scenes and powerful acting.
God Father-1 talks about something that are far yesteryears and not timeless (like Drug cartel, Small Guns, size of crime etc...)
The films like 12 Angry men, Shawshank Redemption, Matrix bring us timeless beauties about relationships, Emotions and most importantly they talk about Average people's Lives...!

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Enola Holmes: 2 / 5

Oh what a let down of an otherwise could-have-been a cracker of a movie. Most important of all - wastage of the 'brand value' of Sherlock Holmes as well as the awesome Henry Cavill in an otherwise useless supporting actor. Neither does he seem interested in any part of the movie nor is the role of Sherlock Holmes utilized to it's potential in this movie.

The only thing good about the movie - the small snippets of British humor that keeps the movie chugging along, with the un-necessary drama and multiple sub-plots that just are discarded as the movie goes along.

Give it a miss - by a mile. Or wait if Netflix decides to plonk more money and create a sequel - clearly the attempt is to make a series if this gets good % of eyeballs.
