Re: The Cricket Thread

After going beserk in the powerplay, England make heavy weather of the rather lowish target against Sri Lanka, winning the encounter with only 2 balls to spare.

And the trend continues.
With 2 teams already in the semis and 4 more in the hunt, I still don't see a clear title favourite.

Re: The Cricket Thread

SA is ensuring that India sail through to semis without bothering about NRR?

Re: The Cricket Thread

Netherlands beating South Africa is a huge upset

This T20 World cup has actually been good with well fought games and hasn't been easy for any of the top teams.

Bangladesh and Pakistan now have an equal chance of qualifying for the semis!

*What if the Pakistan Vs Bangladesh game is washed out ? South Africa, Pakistan and Bangladesh will end with 5 points each and one semi finalist will be decided on NRR!

Yet another upset and in a must win game, south Africa lose to Netherland. What a world cup this has been.

India vs Pakistan final anyone?

Pakistan will qualify, as they have better NRR

But who knows BD might beat Pak now.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Anything is possible now. Kudos to Netherlands on the win. But to put that into perspective, with the kind of bowling attack we have currently, we wont be able to sustain the deep batting order England has as we will have to face them in the SF if we top the table.

He is one of the reason himself for this debacle, he has been absolutely pathetic with the bat, and SA pretty much played with 10 players.

I think this was his last T20I match for SA.

Meanwhile BD playing well, if they get to 150, Pakistan will struggle to chase.

Rizwan's catch is dropped off the third ball of the inning!

Me thinks this is like a divine intervention for Pak much like the ODI world cup in 1992, they seem destined now to make it to the semi finals and who knows even win the cup, possibly ?

Re: The Cricket Thread

So pakistan is well on its way to qualifying for the semis. Ind vs pak final anyone? 2007 all over again

Btw this WC proves why T20 format is getting more popular these days compared to ODIs. Smaller format helps every team put up their best show on the day which usually is not sustainable in the longer format (50 overs). In ODI WC such high number of upsets are a rare sight but in T20 we can have a senegal beating brazil like situation making it interesting for the audience. Plus it doesn’t take up whole day, just 3 hours makes it watchable for the masses. Something tells me this format is here to stay.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Pant replacing DK for the last league match when we have already qualified for the Semis. Does not make sense. If they wanted Pant for the semis then he should have played more games.

On the other hand, Pakistan is a hurting wild cat entry. We must not be surprised if they win it like they did 30 years ago.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Surya played an amazing knock to help India get 186. Rahul's 51 and Kohli's 26 were also good knocks.
Hope 186 is good enough to beat Zimbabwe today.

I think the 4 best teams have reached the semi final stage and it's quite evenly poised with none having any specific advantage over the other (India/Pak Vs Eng/NZ), though we don't know yet exactly who plays who yet.

Yes and this world cup also proves mindless hitting resulting in multiple 200 plus scores are not always needed to have entertaining and tightly fought matches.

A little bit of help to bowlers through swing assistance, bounce in the pitch and big grounds, brings them back into the game which makes it such an entertaining watch.

Rather wish for a re-run of 1985 or 2007 where we beat them in the group match and the final again.
