Such problems for a mildly run civic is unheard off.
I have done 14,500 in three and a half years on my Civic!

I have done 21000 Kms in 11 months this year.
I guess this might be the reason that I think of milage this way.

Apart from all this, is it common for a civic to behave this way. ?
I never had any such suspension or noise issues with mine till date with over 100k Kms on the odo.

Just to clarify, i don't have a transportation or travel business, I am student pursuing chartered accountancy & law.

Btw, this is when there are 3 other cars at home with no fixed driving routine/pattern.

A 40-45 Kms drive daily along with two outstation visits on an average (majorly by my dad).

Hello there,

That is some heavy driving there.

I must agree with our respected prof that annual mileage of a car does not follow any template.

Each case is unique. Like others. Haha.

I completely agree, i too realised it.
Its just that my encounter with milages have been different.

Now lets just keep the milage a side and come down to the problem our fellow mate is facing

In fact there have been days out on the open road when at the end of the day, after 500+ kms, the engine noise and vibes are imperceptible at idle, just like showroom condition.

If it happens even after the engine has warmed up, you can get it checked.

Of course, there's no vibration at idle in a brand new car even when the engine is cold, so from that perspective there is something worth getting checked but HASS is so incompetent you'll just be wasting your time.

After dusting the hell out of the air filter and no relief, i took it to HSS today. Coming straight to the point a hose has been bitten and completely cut off, they don't have the part ready and it would take a week to get it. Here is the pic.

Fixed the issue temporarily with a hose pipe and the vibrations are gone

Look forward to inputs on 'if this has been faced by any of you' and 'if there are any known fixes'.

The bump stop is the culprit. Globally, Honda has released an advisory for this. I don't remember the details now but one of my previous posts on this thread has everything. I even showed the advisory to HASS. Fat lot of good that did. :(

@satyamkaushik: This issue arose in my car when it was less than 6 months old, at around the 8900 km mark. There really is no correlation between kms the car has run and sounds like this. My car came factory-fitted with a rattling roof panel. Took 5000+ kms (3 months+) and multiple visits to HASS in addition to the 1k and 5k km service visits to even find out which part was loose. On the other hand you could drive 200000 kms on roads like the Hyd - Blr highway and your car would sound like new, provided it came fault-free from the showroom.

spadix

Here's the bill - to fix the 'D' issue (Which my friends have also been waiting for )
The parts took 14 days from Noida/Chennai warehouses, and couple of weeks to fix, test, failure-fix-retest.

I have been patiently following up with the service center, and the area manager appreciated my patience - which he says was instrumental in doing justice to my car to his satisfaction. Close to 100 kms of road testing was carried out. I have reimbursed 500 worth of petrol, for which they provided me fuel bills. Rest was from fuel I had filled previously.

I actually ended up buying a wagon-R till I was CIVIC-less.

Anyways, here's the scanned image of the bills:
...
Will share pics of the faulty parts in a future post. I'll be compiling that soon.

re: Honda Civic : Maintenance, Service Costs and Must dos

Making a new post, as it is not related to AT overhauling.
These are my experiments with dismantling my CIVIC gauges and picture of the parts. The plastic lenses are very old and have lot of scratches - I plan to replace them (With the hope that one day will get the plastic part and not replace the entire module). With that intent, I removed the parts. Here's the visual:

devsoftech - The scratches on the dial can be removed to a great extend. Try this - take some drops of a liquid polish (like sonax or so you use on the car) on a soft cloth and slowly polish the dial. The scratches and other dirts will come down to a great extend.

This is what saved my dial after the 3M guys of HSR layout messed it up royally with their interior cleaning. They used hard bridled brush on the dial .

Did you get it fixed? I am facing the same problem.

re: Honda Civic : Maintenance, Service Costs and Must dos

Guys, I'm in a great confusion with my Civic and I badly need an expert advice here.

I'm using a 2007 Civic AT which clocked nearly 90k kms till date. Now, the car has the below problems:

- Hard sounds from suspension - near tyres. Suspecting Tyrod ends, suspension bushes etc. But the ride has gone too harsh and noisy.
- Interior rattling increased while driving on bad roads.
- Feeling like steering is a bit tighter. Don't know why. Have to find out.

I've used many diesel cars before and it's my first petrol car.And I'm totally in love with this one.

I just had a TD of a used 2012 Accord, and I'm not impressed.

I guess the culprit is that big dashboard here which gives a huge car feel. Even in the way they drive, I leaned towards Civic for an enthusiastic driving.

Now, I'm thinking to get all the repairs sorted and keep this one, but the major fear is coming from the ODO.

Is it really worth to spend 60k - 70k (approx) on such an old car, do some minor cosmetic changes like changing seat covers, plastic panels etc. to get a bit of NEW CAR feel and use it for another 20-30k kms?

Or change this car and get another latest model, less used Civic again?

Or, are there any other used cars (Petrol or Diesel) which can compensate this luxury and driving pleasure?

Need your advice please.

Thanks Spadix. Any idea how the bump stop for the front can be sourced? I called up the SA in HASS, he is totally ignorant of any such part . One option is to source it from online websites in US, but I can get it faster if it is available locally.

Mukesh, HASS told me also that I will need to have the Center Arm Rest replaced just for the broken armrest lock. Finally, I managed to source this part from hondapartscheap.com by getting my friend in US to deliver to another person's address who was returning in next 3-4 weeks. The part costed around $ 10 (including transportation) while getting it fixed costed another Rs. 100.

Hope this helps.
